Easily MY favorite system of all time, and I think it is the best system ever made.....but my word isn't gospel(thankfully) and it depends what others grew up with.
This. And it had Super Metroid the best game ever,period.Sure. The Super Nintendo is the best system ever, period.

Fallacy error... I say, therefore it is.... The Sega Genesis was better, it had a greater percentage of the market share... Plus from personal experience, even though I have almost all of the awesome super nintendo games, I still seem drawn to the Sega Genesis. Then again same is true for the N64, so of course the N64 is going to draw me in more than the snes for obvious reasons. I dont know how to explain this, but it seems like I am not that into mario anymore, maybe its just me for the time being. I kind of hope its just me. Not that the SNES isnt a good quality system all around.
I would say that the SNES is by far the best legacy console ever. If you like NBA Jam I would alsosuggest: NBA Jam tournament edition, College Slam, and NBA Give N Go!!! I spent MANY hours on NBA Jam TE and NBA Give n Go... they are great games. If I remember correctly, Bill and HillaryClintonare secret characters in NBA Jam TE... lol...
I guess I'm a little oldschool, but I don't really consider anything after the N64 a legacy console... heck, I'm not even sure if I'd throw the N64 in..... :?
Heh heh... nice ;) I was going to say, nothing is easy.Well if you think it's the best, then that settles it.

The Sega Genesis was better, it had a greater percentage of the market share... SegaGenesisfanWrong. The SNES sold 50 million units and the Genesis/Mega Drive sold 30 million.
Market share, not units sold.... Besides, its was more of a bandwagon thing, think about it, the sony system came out, people got tired of Nintendo, so the Playstation created a new bandwagon, even though the N64 had a good ammount of games that blew away most of the playstation games. Then again, the playstation did have some tight games. But, I would choose a N64 over a playstation. Yet it sold like 4 times better.... The Wii sells more than the Xbox360 and PS3, we all know the Wii is not a better system. IT IS ALL THIS BANDWAGON CRAP! Nintendo already had sixty million fans, so all they had to do was make another console, and they would all float to that one, even then Sega was not destroid. I mean think of it this way, could the NES face the Genesis if both started at the same time? The Snes was like the same thing, except the Genesis was the NES, and the Snes is the Genesis. Yet the Genesis still was about to sell a good deal. Mostly it was the Mario bandwagon, people didnt just buy the Sega Genesis for Sonic. Ok, clearly the Snes was very good, DKC, F-Zero, Starfox, it did deserve its sales, but most of it was kids like me back then. But, I just dont like going by sales because then you would have to admit that Tetris for the Gameboy is better than Perfect Dark...............................................:(
Just look at this crap http://vgchartz.com/games/index.php?name=Sonic&console=&publisher=&genre=&keyword=&order=Sales Then again, Ib et this is all crap, I just typed Castlevania, and there is no way that Castlevania Bloodlines only sold 40,000... Which proves that sales dont really tell how good a game is.
Remember Japan is basically a bunch of Nintendo fanboys, Genesis definately had way more appeal to Americans. Golden Axe is like Conan the Game with extra spice (if you dont believe me, google it).
In a world were Japan basically were the only console makers, whoever appeals to Japan, wins.
I will end by sayying that both the Genesis and Snes had something to offer that the other did not, like 3D Starfox, or Donkey Kong, while the Genesis had arcade experience, some good beat em ups. The point is that SNES is not easily the best legacy system, its great, just not better in every way. I am growwing up, and honestly I am starting to know why the Playstation did better. I mean I haven't even wanted to play Mario games lately, I can't believe that is happening.

Do you know what market share is? Market share is determined by the number of consoles sold. SNES had more market share than the Genesis/Mega Drive.
How is Japan "a bunch of Nintendo fanboys"? The N64 came in dead last in Japan behind the Saturn and Playstation, and the Gamecube did poorly there as well. They favor the console that appeals to them. The SNES was that console in the 4th generation.
Japan isn't even the largest gaming region, so whoever appeals to them does not automatically win.
You are right my friend. SNES is the best system of all time! Everything came with the SNES, the true RPG masterpieces, the best side-scrollers, fighting and adventures games. It was by far the best system in both graphics and sound. The limits of the SNES are yet to be discovered!
The point is that SNES is not easily the best legacy system, its great, just not better in every way.

the words of a true sega genesis fan. games aside (you can't judge taste) the snes was technically more powerful (more colors, sprites, better sound processor etc etc) while the sega had "blast processing" which basically made sonic the hedgehog a possibility. i thought the snes ended up gaining the vast market share over genesis by the end (though sega put up a very good fight, which meant awesome games on both systems) but don't quote me on that. imo, i thought the snes was better in every way. that being said the genesis did still have some awesome games (like the shining force series, shinobi, golden axe, phantasy star series and quite a few others)
You say it better then I could, but I just wanted to drop the whole sales thing. The thing about the "more colors" is it does not mean it has way better graphics. The Genesis actually had better resolution, more speed means it can perform more at once, therefore making games more interesting. The sound was not really better, the only difference was having higher pitched sounds. Play Zombies ate my Neightbors and you will know what I mean. I doubt Road Rash could of been done on the Snes, then again F-Zero could not be done on the Genesis. It just goes to show how unique both were, which debunks this thread all together. Besides the Genesis Castlevania was way better than the Snes one.
i dont know i'm a fan of all legacy platforms.but if there was a competition super nintendo could win
My, my. Yet ANOTHER tread about which console is better. Sigh. And each of these treads is followed by the war of the fanboys.( SNES VS Mega Drive) If you're going to rant, backup your facts with accurate information. Sadly, most fanboys don't. But I will say this, I have played on both systems. I have played some of these system's best games. If you ask me, the games backing up a console are the most important because its all you do with your console( but now its all out music, video junk). So can someone find facts that prove which console has better games? But it must be right.
you could never find a fact about a better game... a "better" game to one person might be just okay to someone else who thinks that something completely different is the better game. so this discussion is never going to be resolved to your liking. there's is never going to be a "best"... there could be a democratic best where people vote and the popular vote is the winner, but that dataset could be skewed because it wouldn't take into consideration all of the people who didn't vote and what they thought was the best... so your "the better games make the best system" arguement could never come to fruition. so instead of waiting for someone to give you facts that aren't facts... you should get off the fence and make your own mind up. that's what i did, and that's all anyone else can do.My, my. Well, your right about that and I was so wrong. But my main point is that neither console can be better than the other, and having arguements over which is better is not needed. As for my own taste? I have simply played too little of either to know. However, I know the SNES has the uper hand in a few areas like games and graphics.

The PS2 is a better system. Actually, the PS1 is probably the best legacy system, followed by the PS2 and then the SNES.
SNES is one of my all time favorite consoles it's the best that Nintendo will ever make as they were thinking about the hardcore gamers instead of the casual gamers. The SNES had some of the best games the Donkey Kong Country series, Starwing, Killer Instinct, etc. The best developer I thought for the SNES were Rare (then on the SNES as Rareware) they made some great games on the SNES plus I'll never forget the excellent soundtrack on the Donkey Kong Country games.
I don't think the SNES could be considered the best legacy system as it had too many genre weaknesses. I'd begrudgingly say maybe the PS1 was the best mainly due to the fact that it's library was well balanced with good titles from every genre.

I think SNES had one the best video game librarys ever.
I would have to disagree.
I believe Nintendo 64 was a lot better.

IMO N64 library was pathetic,it was nothing compared to PSOne library.

[QUOTE="Domino_slayer"]I don't think the SNES could be considered the best legacy system as it had too many genre weaknesses.Rocky32189What were its "genre weaknesses".For one thing it's shmups were quite frankly a joke, if they weren't plagued with slowdown then they were old fashioned and out of date (by 90s standards), I can only think of a handfullof shooters on the system that were actually worth playing Axelay, R-Type III, Parodius, Super Aleste/Space Megaforce, for the most part TG-16 and Mega Drive shmups always felt like a generation ahead.
Other noticible deficits would be with strategy games as apart from Metal Marines all the SNES really had was a few multi-format games.
There were also a ridiculous amount of content guidelines that needed to be followed, It was quite funny seeing Wolfenstein with all the blood removed (Nintendo content rule disallowing blood) all the swatica's removed (Nintendo content rule about no symbols related to groups being allowed) and the dogs being turned into giant rats (Nintendo's contect rule about cruelty to animals)
