Yes, you are right about the SNES.Rocky32189
Sega does what Nintendon't.
Genesis > SNES

[QUOTE="-Pred-Alien-"]No far from it, people who say that have little experience with games.Rocky32189Instead of blindly insulting those who feel the SNES is the best system, why don't you tell us why the SNES isn't the best system or what system you think is better? If you think the SNES is better than the MD, good for you, too bad i wasnt talking about that. People are hung up on nostalgia and shallow platformers, system such as the Saturn, PSone, even the N64 for its time were MUCH better.

Even though the PS1 is a great system it has a lot of downfalls. During its time 3D was relatively new so the graphics haven't aged well. Textures are low resolution and a lot of games have graphical glitches such missing polygons. The other problem with this is a lot of the 3D games have awful camera angles that make gameplay frustrating such as the Tomb Raider games. My biggest complaint with the system is the terrible load times. Symphony of the Night is one of my favorite games, but loading between areas can become tiresome.
I can see why someone might prefer the PS1 or Saturn over the SNES, but saying that the N64 is a better system I don't quite get. Besides the big name games like Ocarina and Goldeneye the N64 has little to offer.
Also, if you think the SNES only has "shallow platformers" then you're mistaken.
Okay fair enough, youve made a great post. Its just people only remember the SNES for games like Donkey Kong and Mario, truth is, those games dont hold up well, theyve been done to death, in the same way people keep asking for a Sega console because Streets of Rage was so awesome or the Dreamcast had two great years. In reality, the situation is completely different now and the past means nothing. As for the PSone, most 3D games were ugly, but MANY look great even today. Games like Spyro, Crash, Tomb Raider, MGS, they have a good sense of cleanliness to them but their 'fuzziness' is at times used to an advantage to give a more detailed look. The N64 was also a good system, but most of its best titles havent aged well, and throughout its lifetime, it wasnt well supported. It matched the PSone in platformers and smacked it in FPS games, but the PSone won in just about every other genre. And not by default either because the N64 was lacking, but more because like the PS2, those were some of the best days of Japanese development. That offcourse came down the commercial success of the systems in Japan, but also, the general greater acceptability to Japanese centric games. Going back to the Saturn, even that delivered top notch games that werent found on other systems as it was very 'Japanese.' It did so well there simply because it did great in having its own identity. The N64 had better 4-player games than the SNES and PS1 and people who like those styles of games would prefer it, therefore all systems have their own strengths and weaknesses, therefore this entire thread is nonsense.

But thats pretty much all of it, i can name that many good JRPGs on the PSone if i tried. Also a lot of those games are multiplat, heck Quake 2 was BETTER on the PSone. But thats pretty much all of it.-Pred-Alien-No, that's just a list off the top of my head actually so I'd imagine there must be more than that, also taking into account that most PS1 First Person Shooter were laughable even in comparison to Turok 2 (let alone Golden Eye and Perfect Dark) most PS1 3D platform games were laughable in comparison to Mario 64, Conker's bad fur day, Banjo Kazooie, Rocket Robot on Wheels etc, and most PS1 racing games couldn't stand up to F-Zero X, Wave Race, 1080, Excite Bike, Diddy Kong Racing, Mario Kart 64
You can have your massive list of second rate PS1 games :D
i can name that many good JRPGs on the PSone if i tried-Pred-Alien-I don't understand why you're suddenly mentioning JRPG'S what bearing has this particular genre got on the conversation about the N64 only having two worthwhile games on it? or is it maybe that you didn't actually read any of the post and just blindly replied?
Also a lot of those games are multiplat, heck Quake 2 was BETTER on the PSone.-Pred-Alien-Bwahahahah, thanks I needed a good laugh today.
And yes some of them were multiplatform
Shadow Man for instance (pity it's absolutely attrocious on PS1) or maybe Glover (pity it's absolutely attrocious on PS1)
Since I don't consider the PS2 to be a legacy platform yet and I never got to play the sega systems all that much, I'd have to agree that the SNES was the best legacy system. Most of the games I played most often as a kid were on the SNES, and overall I preferred the system and controller to anything else I used to play.

Well you were pretty good at your first stab, you got pretty much all of them. As for JRPGs, im just saying how the PSone covered all genres, and just that one genre in itself has enough quality to compete with the N64. And offcourse, you think PSone which means crappy ports am right?Quake 2 on N64 was a brand new game, but it was shallow and largely linear. The PC game was HUGE, so huge there were a bunch of totally cool secret levels. Even then, youd have to trek across multiple maps just so you can pass a level. The PSone game is a good approximation that keeps about 75% of that game. Man of the secrets that old school PC FPSs have, had been done away with and the environments were streamlined but it was still a much better game than the N64. Even the graphics were very good, easily matching the PC versions software graphics.
Shadowman however was indeed a joke on the PSone, however i remember many PSone 3D games that matched N64. One good example is Toy Story 2, the PSone version is loads better.
im just saying how the PSone covered all genres, and just that one genre in itself has enough quality to compete with the N64. And offcourse, you think PSone which means crappy ports am right?-Pred-Alien-The PS1 certainly had a much more varied library of games than the N64, i'm only in opposition to the widely spread myth that the N64 had no games, N64 had hoards of games but it was weak in a few specific important genres (RPG and Fighting) I guess being the successor to a console with one of the strongest libraries of RPG's ever probably carried over a lot of fans of that genre who were eagerly awaiting high calibur games on N64 which never came (causing a lot of disappointment).
I don't see the N64 as being "Easily the greatest legacy system" but I also disagree with people making the assuption that it "obviously couldn't compete with the PS1 or SNES" as at the end of the day the N64 had a whole load of key releases during it's lifespan that were the best you could get at the time, also the PS1 doesn't have very many 4-player games by comparison so this was always a strength during the N64's lifespan.
Also I'm not sure if the older age of the Saturn is making people forget about the machine whilst it was around, but in Europe and North America the Saturn easily had a similarly slow releasing of games as the N64. It arrived with very few games, then Virtua Fighter 2, Sega Rally and Virtua Cop came out to loads of fanfare but after this releases slowed down a hell of a lot.
As I said before most machines have their own strengths and weaknesses so there cannot be an "easily" best system.

The Saturn is truly amazing, but as somebody who also loves Western games, maybe its not the best for its time, in fact if i bought it then, i wouldve hated it. This generation where the only games we get are Western, the Saturn is something great to go back to. Now that i have more money and better taste, i can see why the system was so popular and got so much support in Japan. As for the N64, im not saying it didnt have games, in fact it had some of the best of the era, but so did the PSone, but that had dozens upon dozens of quality titles. Another genre the N64 lacked in were shooters, the PSone certainly wasnt as good as the Saturn (nothing is), it still had a good library where many of which were exclusive.i can see why the system was so popular and got so much support in Japan.-Pred-Alien-The Saturn was popular in Japan primarily due to the fact that they were going through a Virua Fighter craze when it was released, even though it came out there with nothing but a less than stellar port of Virtua Fighter it still shot into the lead in sales over the PS1, also the 2D market was still viable over there whilst in serious decline here and in North America.
Another genre the N64 lacked in were shooters, the PSone certainly wasnt as good as the Saturn (nothing is), it still had a good library where many of which were exclusive.-Pred-Alien-If you mean scrolling shooters, they aren't worth mentioning in respects to that generation, scrolling shooters really belonged to the previous generation and were way past their sell by date by then mainly due to the fact that the market was over-saturated with them during the 16-bit era, someone wanting to play scrolling shooters during that gen would've been much better off just picking up Genesis games which were by this time selling 2nd hand for next to nothing, than buying full priced Sega Saturn games.
The N64 had better 4-player games than the SNES and PS1 and people who like those styles of games would prefer it, therefore all systems have their own strengths and weaknesses, therefore this entire thread is nonsense.

Genesis > SNES
Nintedo has 3 good non handheld consoles yet(NES,SNES,Gamecube).SEGA has only 2 good non handheld consoels(sms and Genesis). PS2 is teh best legacy system ever.
Well if you think it's the best, then that settles it.Jackc8
but he said "right?" at the end of the Topic. so there must be some doubt......
Well most of my favourite games of all time are on the SNES so I'd have to agree.....ok, well it's my favourite system anyway. Since it's my favourite I don't care if it's the best or not. ALttP, All Mario Games, Super Metroid, StarFox,Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, Lufia 1&2, Ys III, DKC 1,2&3, Act Raiser, ShadowRun, Super Punch-Out, FF6, Breath of Fire 1&2, Bubsy, NBA Hangtime, Super Star Wars, Killer Instinct, Street Fighter Games, Earthworm Jim 1&2, Super R-Type, R-Type III, Earthbound, Illusion of Gaia, King Arthur's World, Lost Vikings 1&2,Mega Man X,2&3, Metal Combat, Mortal Kombat Games, Plok.
DROOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLL!!!!!
The SNES may have the greatest game of all time (Super Metroid), but the PS1 and NES have better game libraries overall.Raiko101
the sad thing is all those 20 million n64 fans dont know one good ps1 game.. theres tons and they dont have the standard mario/metroid/zelda name aplied to them
i hate getting into arguements with n64 fans, they think the n64 is the best. When your console is on life support and requires loads of first party games it should be obvoius that your console (n64) isnt that great
and i think ps2 > ps1 (the ps2 just had more memorable games while also selling over 100m)
