The most overhyped game of the year

Is there any game that's come out this year that's perhaps been overly pushed by the devs and become a massive talking point among us when you really think it just wasn't that special? Preferebly not just the bad ones that went by unnoticed.

For me, it has to be Sonic the Hedgehog 4. Let's face it, it's an unjustifiably pricey downloadable game with little in the way of original level design. I would say Final Fantasy 13 or Red Dead Redemption, but even they have their standout points.

Medal of honor or Black Ops..

Halo Reach. I don't know if it is good or bad but certainly that game was quite hyped. I also think the new CoD is being hyped alot. Miroku32

Well, I would say Halo Reach but I actually enjoy the game. I think it's vastly overrated, but still.

My vote goes to Black Ops. I'm so utterly sick of hearing about Call of Duty. Whether it be people praising it, bashing it, commercials for it, articles about it... I'm just sick of it.

starcraft 2. i hate when long awaited sewquels try to "live up" to the original.... they should be trying to blow it outta the water!!!

Well no. MoH is to be multiplayer focused so it isn't too uncommon for it not to have a review yet. Games like Castlevania and Enslaved had early reviews because they were single player experiences. Final Fantasy XIV has running servers already and Halo Reach had several events and games a week or so before release also.

But part of the MoH review might be to test how it runs online. Especially after the poor support EA did with Bad Company 2, I think this is an important aspect. Reviews for Starcraft 2 didn't begin appearing until a week after release because they needed to test Battlenet 2.0

and on a side note Mass Effect 2 got a huge amount of hype and backed every bit of it up i think it should have gotten more hype

That seems a tad harsh given that you haven't actually, you know, played the game yet. Perhaps you are in possession of clairvoyance that affords you a look into the future but I'll reserve judgment until I at least play the demo.

Also, hype is merely channeled excitement and I've never really understood why so many supposed gamers levy such animosity at unbridled enthusiasm. It's almost as if those who deride "hype" feel that cynicism is a more valuable commodity.

Halo Reach by far. I honestly don't see how Black Ops is getting huge hype in terms of mass media, but only lots of hype through fans and haters alike. A few videos have been released to show it off, but beyond that it gets hype by people hoping it will be better and live up to the hype of MW2 and people that just LOVE to talk about how much they hate activision or call of duty.

Being sick of it is an understatement for me. CoD is a good game, don't get me wrong. It is just too repetitive though for my liking. Modern Warfare 1= Modern Warfare 2, and guess what, even that = what Black Ops will probably be like, despite the "new gadgets".

Halo Reach is a fun game, whether it is the same exact Halo formula or not. I don't believe it will have a long lifespan though in terms of the online community.

The most overhyped game though has got to be Medal of Honor, as it has gotten decent reviews, but nowhere near what some would've put it as. I may rent Medal of Honor, but definitely will not purchase it.

Halo Reach. It added more stuff, while ignoring the reasons Halo sucked from day one.
