I'm playing it on hard right now, don't know if the controls feel off or not because I haven't played Uncharted since the beta, but they seem okay to me. I did up the sensitivity though.

_Dez_

You are playing on Hard. The Auto Aim is off on Hard and Crushing which is why you arent having any issues with the aiming.

I'm certainly loving this game so far, strangely enough because of the characters and story. Don't get me wrong, the action is top notch, but it's the little touches that make this game, like Chloe giving Sully knuckles when she saw that he knew what the symbols meant on a map. I'm also very intrigued on how this will unfold. Maybe it's because I just finished UC1 and 2 this year and have grown fond of the comraderie between Nate and Sully. I love when these two are together and riff off of each other. That's what makes Uncharted what it is and why it excels where other third person action/platformers fail.dvader654

Ummm... thats why we all love Uncharted. lol The characters are the biggest draw to the series... the story, though well told, has always been rather cliched and Indiana Jones-ish. THe main attraction has always been the banter b/w the characters and the characters themselves.

So dont fault yourself for liking the best aspect of the game. :P

EDIT: F1, Auto-Aim in enabled during Normal? WTF?

No, its the giant incredible unmatched action set pieces. No one makes an action sequence like Naughty Dog. The story is excellent but if it wasn't for the stellar gameplay it wouldn't matter.

Then why did everyone love Uncharted Drake's Forutne? it didnt have a single big setpiece. The characters carried that whole game (and yes the graphics).
I loved the beginning of the game, probably up there with God of War III as my favorites. Yes after the first 3 chapters it feels more of the same, and WoW at the trees at the beginning of Chapter 6 Chateau, who needs next gen games ? :P I had to stop because of work and had a long day today :x As others mentioned, the aiming is stiff; it doesn't feel natural as Uncharted 2 and makes things tougher. I'll increase the sensitivity next time I play.

S0lidSnake

The trees and that forest section reminded me of the End area in MGS3. Imagine MGS3 with these graphics.

It's interesting looking at the jungles in each game and how they've evolved and become more and more detailed in each game. Borneo looked a lot more detailed than Drake's Fortune's jungle, and this french jungle looks even better. I dont know how they do it tbh.

Is anyone else not able to shoulder switch when aiming? I know you can in Uncharted 1 and 2. In the instruction booklet it says to hold L1 and press L3. I have tried it countless times throughout the game and it just won't work. I tried holding L1 and hitting every other button on the controller as well. Clearly you're supposed to be able to because it shows the number of shoulder switches you have done throughout the game... mine still says 0.

Is anyone else got this problem?

You have to go in the options and enable it. L3 is currently being used for Sprinting.

Played till Chapter 16. Aiming sucks, it's atrocious. The enemies actually repel my reticule, it's ridiculous. I want to switch over to Hard but I have died like 67 times on normal already and dont want to play this game in black and white. I just got the 100 headshots trophy but my stats say i've killed aroound 300 enemies using gun combat. So it's a pretty terrible headhsot ratio. I seriously wouldve enjoyed Chpaters 12-14 more if the aiming was better.

Melee is another thing I have a problem with. After the awesome first brawl in the bar where you used all kinds of props, it's been very underwhelming so far. You basically press square until the triangle pops up and then rinse and repeat. I would've loved to use more objects in the melee fights. They should've just emulated Batman's melee system.

Lastly, puzzles have been great so far and the boat chapter show during the E3 demo was my first true WOW moment in the game since Chapter 3. Good stuff.

Keep in mind that this game seems to have added reticule bloom in addition to heavier recoil, so it's probably why it's harder to hit enemies. Don't remember if the beta had both, though. It's almost as if Naughty Dog wants you to blindfire more during your gunfights more than anything. Probably to prepare people for the multiplayer :P

I will say that even on hard, the aiming for this game feels noticably slow, like I'm trying to aim through molasses. Turing up the sensitivity helped, but trying to find the balance in sensitivity is still a little difficult. To compensate, I'm liking the double barrel shotgun more than I thought. You don't even need to aim !

lol yeah. sadly this shooter has turned into one where you are punished for aiming.

I did notice the new mini-reticule but it makes it even harder to aim. Why not just change ther reticule color to red like all other shooters do?

Well here we go. This perfectly describes what Im going through with aiming.

Beta footage

Now it's from the beta and their only problem is with the T-Bolt sniper rifle, but the sticky aim they talk about is what's affecting every single weapon in the SP campaign. Looks like the reticule slows down whenever you bring it over an enemy which actuallly throws you off instead of helping you. So the aiming works fine if you are not aiming at an enemy, but when you hover over an enemy it becomes magnetic and tries to attach itself to the enemy which is what's causing confusion.

Why this was changed from the beta or from Uncharted 2 is beyond me. Naughty Dog is a great developer, but some of their pandering to the casual audience has effectively ruined their games for me. We dont need aim assists, sticky or magnet aim, let it be optional for the casuals if you must. Just dont try to fix something that aint broken. Please dont ruin your games. Pretty Please. Now fix the f***ing aiming.

HOLY BLEEPING BLEEP. Ok this game has hit overdrive and its some of the most incredible stuff I have ever seen in a game!!! What they do with water is nothing short of brilliant. Graphically its jawdropping, these scenes are unmatched in how cinematic it all looks. I have been wondering if it would ever match Uncharted 2's greatness, well now it has. Overall its not as good a game but now these setpieces are as good if not better than anything in U2.dvader654

Its cool when the camera pans all the way out to show you running on the boat. Its one huge moving level with a crap load of physics

There is less aim assist on Hard, but it's still there. Ask Dez or dvader, i believe they are playing on Hard.

Its there, I had to increase it two digits at least, and its still slower than U2.

The stealth seciton in Chapter 16 is brilliant. I love dropping down on fools Assassin;s Creed styIe.

I couldn't ace it though. The last two guys stand next to each other and there is no way to melee them. i took out one of them with the silenced pistol but the other guy spotted me. Can anyone confirm if there is a way to get out of it without alreting annyone?

Can anyone confirm how long the game is? I'm at 28% with just over two hours. That seems awfully short to me.

What Chapter are you on?

If you dont look around for treasures then I would say around 8 hours tops. U1 took me eight hours while U2 was around 11-12, but then again it had 100 minutes of cutscenes alone. U3 is the same length as U1.

This game is freaking nuts. I find myself just in awe of what's happening in realtime even shouting at the screen at times lol. The Desert has the best graphics Ive ever seen. We can save the best graphics award for Uncharted 3 this year, it's insane how good it looks.

I actually agree. I am playing BF3 now on PC maxed and some parts of the U3 desert scenes trump parts of it. The way the sand moves when he walks is mind boggling. Its so realistic looking

Did anyone complain about that on ND fourms ?

yeah, the ND rep arne replied back saying they are looking into it.

I dont know wtf the reviewers never mentioned a word of this. Even Eurogamer with its 8/10 philosophical review didn't mention a word about the aiming being off. If only they had brought it up, maybe ND wouldve had a Day 1 patch ready.

It doesn't have to be a big set piece to match UC2 opening, the bar fight was awesome great opening, reminded me of indiana jones.

Im just saying people will be expecting a big set piece opening like that to follow U2. Its just how people think. Same with the God of War series. Always has a huge opening that gets bigger and better every sequel. But if you guys enjoyed it then that's great. It's always good when people don't get disappointed. Too much of that in games these days. Still a good opening of course. And it gradually gets the game going because it snowballs after that.

Some parts of the game though feel VERY similar to U2. The puzzles are much improved though. Some of the platforming sections were yawn inducing because its already been done to death in U2 and it brings nothing new at all.

And don't you guys every just think "come on, thats a bit too much"? I mean to see the torture and pain Drake goes through even as a kid and he just gets up like nothing happened.

And rightly so you should be. Every board should be. Nothing worse than having a game you love spoiled.

I ruined most of U2 for myself because I didn't know I would get it at the time and I watched all the videos before launch. Then I wanted the game badly but by the time I played it I had most of the best bits ruined. Same with God of War III. I have no self control Dammit!! :P

He is the indian jones of this Gen lol. hes the hero he is supposed to survive that kind of stuff, the story had emotional moments so he is a human after all lol. but yeah i get what you mean :P.

Thank god they give them a bit more character in this game. Not much mind, but enough to not make them super annoying. If they were just the same as U1 and U2 I would have hated them. But there are some moments that have real emotional tugs to them and real humanity behind them.

This is part of the reason I hate seeing it ruined by Robocop antics. He shows humanity in cutscenes but then acts like Rambo in gameplay

Naughty Dog just posted this blog regarding the aiming complaints.... as in typical ND fashion, they deny everything and actually go on to say it's more accurate than U2. Geez.

Judging from a few threads we've seen popping up on various forums, including our own fourms on NaughtyDog.com, there's a good debate brewing on what's different or changed with our gun combat mechanics in both single-player and multiplayer. Since we've got access to all the underlying bits for those mechanics, we wanted to share some of those details for you.

Single-player
Justin Richmond, our Game Director, came over to discuss the debate about our single-player guns, which centers mostly around aiming and accuracy. We want explain exactly what changed with the aiming/shooting between Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3.

First off, the guns fire in a completely different way in Uncharted 2compared to what you're experiencing now in Uncharted 3. Keep that in mind, as it affects your perception of gun combat as a whole since it's very easy to want to compare the two sets of mechanics between the two games. In Uncharted 2the bullets would leave the barrel at a pre-set deviation when you were aimed in. What this means is that the bullets would not fire straight out of the barrel all the time -- they could come out at an angle. Therefore, you could have a target clearly in the reticle and still miss it by a wide margin. This was frustrating, because it was difficult to tell why you were missing a target.

As a result, we wanted to be sure you had a better grasp of whether you were hitting or missing a target. In Uncharted 3the bullets now fire straight out of the barrel 100% of the time. However, we have recoil -- where the reticle moves/bounces as you fire. Therefore, it is easier to tell if you are missing or hitting a target. Now it is much more obvious when you are hitting or missing based on the reticle itself.

We also changed how the enemies move in Uncharted 3. Your foes can run faster to their desired position than in Uncharted 2, which changes the flow of gun combat as well, from what you were used to if you're coming off fresh from Uncharted 2.

Perhaps one of the more significant changes revolves around the accuracy to the AK rifles. In Uncharted 2, you could fire the AK across the map with extreme accuracy, and thus players would tend to stick with the AK all the time. In Uncharted 3, we changed the AK to be used at closer ranges to encourage players to use other guns rather than just keeping the AK the entire game. Fact is, the AK in Uncharted 3 isn't great at long range intentionally. The GMAL or the M9 are much better choices for long range combat. Don't forget that the AK also works much better and with better accuracy if you burst fire it rather than just holding the trigger down.

Multiplayer
In addition, Robert Ryan, a Game Designer working on multiplayer, wrote me an e-mail recently to talk about the discussion regarding multiplayer gun combat, and wanted to shed some more, much detailed, light on some of the changes we made during the Subway / PlayStation Plus Multiplayer Experience.

We had updated stopping power and now it is exactly the sameas the July beta for all rifles.

The recoil on the G-MAL was updated and it iscurrently 18% lower than the July beta. We also fixed a bugthat caused the G-MAL to have 0 recoil occasionally when moving side-to-side, which is no good.

We didn't change anything on the base recoil for the AK rifles from the July Beta, the only change was that the recoil would no longer go downwards past the original point of fire. The Rate of Fire Weapon Mod was removed for the AK rifiles. In addition, we set base rate of fire to the same value as if you had the Weapon Mod equipped. This was the direct cause as to why AK rifles felt like recoil was behaving differently - recoil wasn't, just the rate of fire was better/faster. Currently, the rate of fire for the AK rifles is about 8% faster than the July Beta, and recoil has been tuned to make the weapon feel less erratic - recoil is now at a lower value than during the July Beta.

We didn't change anything during the Multipayer Experience with a player's base movement speed, but if you're comparing to the July Beta, we did make you about 3% faster. Sprint duration is lower than it was during the July Beta too - you have 2 seconds less of Sprint time.

We also brought in the auto-acquire zone for blindfire by a significant margin. It's currently at about 25%the effectiveness it was during of the July beta for the majority of guns! That's 75% less effective than the July Beta.

Game is done, not as good as U2 but it has moments where it matches U2s greatness. It seriously has some of the most incredible graphics I have ever seen. I thought they could have done more with the story, kind of disappointing. There is way to many moments in this game where you are walking for long periods of time with nothing to do.

Still an excellent game.

I think you hit the nail on the head
The end was crap TBH. they stopped marlowe way too easy and there was no struggle with them. just there they are, shoot the rocks and they're gone. Her death felt cheap. Also I have no idea how the whole place started to just fall down when he shot 3 rounds at a little tower thing. It was just there to look good and make the ending more interesting. But its the EXACT same as U2's ending. I also have no idea about drake and elena. Maybe they are married or engaged but she left cos of his reckless ways or something. I have no idea. But she wasn't in the game as much as I thought and chloe and cutter just disappeard. We get to know drakes mother killed herself and his father left him for fostering basically. And yeah I don't get the whole "your name isn't drake" part. The story just kind of fell apart. Set pieces, graphics and motion captured cutscenes were the only parts they seemed to focus on. Gunplay is slow and clunky and platforing is easy and outdated.

Now it is much more obvious when you are hitting or missing based on the reticle itself.

what the F*** is he talking about. The gunplay was fine in U2 and had none of the problems he described. They just wanted to change it and now they are trying to justify why they did. Like you said in traditional ND fashion

^ Yup the more I think about it the more I hate it. Its a mess. The game clock says I spent 8 hours and 30 minutes playing it, shorter than U2 by a lot. IGN is on crack. This is in no way better than U2.dvader654

Yeah I find it highly strange how the game got an absolute perfect 10. Like they couldn't find anything wrong with it at all to warrant a change. A game like God of War III will get attacked for being too much the same as before on its third outing but a game like uncharted gets no agro whatsoever about having most of the game largely based on the exact same formula. Its a great game. But its far from perfect and doesn't have the highs of U2. the locations in U3 kinda suck too. Except the desert

So there won't be a patch ? :(TheGuardian03

Seems like a justification and that's all. Because ND think they make perfect games and if you don't like it it's your problem and you just have to get used to it. That's the vibe I got from that anyway. Listen to your fans ND. they don't like it and they want it changed.
