You guys realize we were paying 49.99$ in the 80s and up to 79.99$ for SNES and N64 games in the 90s?
Considering a movie ticket across the nation is on the order of 7.50$ with student discounts to 11 prime time showing, video games are cheap.

*shakes SemiMaster's hand* I mean hell, I don't wanna spend money either, but really, game's aren't THAT expensive.[QUOTE="ASK_Story"][QUOTE="gunswordfist"] TF are you talking about? I got a case with MUA and Forza 2 for 16 bucks. You must be going to the wrong place for used games. lolgunswordfistI'm talking about newer games, man. Like Dead Space. Still expensive. But I was talking about used games. I know. But I'm talking about new games. $60 is a lot.

Ugh... that quote got all messed up.
No seriously, 59.99$ isn't that expensive. 79.99$ years ago, that was expensive. I only got games on christmas and my birthday because of that.

WHAT?! NOOOO!!! lol GS missed up some of my best statements. lol Okay okay *wipes off hands* here I go again. I was saying that we all know that game development costs have skyrocketed. Games cost millions of dollars to make. (Okay pay attention to this part) I would enjoy having games for 30 bucks. I would probably get to buying Assassin's Creed right before the game industry goes under forever. LAWLZBut that's the past. I was a kid in the past. My parents bought those for me for my birthday, Christmas, and if I got good grades, LOL! Now, it's all me buying it. No more parents. So with that in mind, $60 is a lot, especially for my weeping wallet.ASK_StoryWell just imagine how much your parents were weeping when they had to pay for your games, your necessities and their own. ASK's Parents: We have to pay THIS much for a game and have to still feed ASK *starts crying*
Its a pitty that price point is not consistent everywhere. I was once in a country called Bangladesh (east of India), I went to a game shop, they had some pretty good collection, but they priced like 80$ for new games.Ugh... that quote got all messed up.

And to make it worse on my parents, I always got good grades!
Well, that is until I started to get lazy and didn't get good grades anymore. I blame video games!:P

Hehe you slacker you.:P
I remember paying $80 for Street Fighter II on the SNES back in the day. I also remember calling the game stores every day for like a week seeing if they had it in stock yet. Yeah, the $80 SNES and N64 games was awful. I'm perfectly happy with $60.Ugh... that quote got all messed up.

I hate how to be an awesome game this gen, you
1. Must be a shooter
2. Must be dubbed "Teh Graphix King!!!" by a large group of people
3. Be less than 30 hours
Honestly, I miss my good ole' RPGs. xD
hThere are truly very few things I dislike this gen. The amazing thing for me in that statement is that I am very critical of developers and will NOT ever accept lazynes (for instance, I love SH but would not buy the last one because they refused to place an invert option even after a petition).
Sure, there are some things I dislike, but compared to older games, things are so much better now. I've been playing since the NES- I'm almost 24 now, and I can HONESTLY say (at least imo) that this gen is by far the best. And that INCLUDES gameplay.
This gen has been so innovative, and I think the majority of "older" gamers are just nostalgic for the past because they are jaded. If I try to look at it objectively, I have to say this gen is BY FAR the best.
Take a copy of Persona 4 and Valkyria Chronicles and call me in the morning.I hate how to be an awesome game this gen, you

I'm not sure if it has already been mentioned, but the thing I cannot stand the most is the price tag on this generation. It is unreal at how expensive some of these video game systems and video game accessories are. A wii controller is like 60 bucks (with both parts, 40 for just the wii mote), and a wireless 360 controller is 50 bucks. xbox 360 games are 60 bucks brand new and the list goes on.
I guess that my real problem is that I started gaming in the last generation (the generation that includes Gamecube, ps2 and xbox), and things were expensive back then for those systems but with the release of the wii, ps3, and 360, the prices have been shreded for the generation that I started gaming in.
So, I guess the only real generation that I dislike is whatever is current because it is so expensive (for example during gamecube generation, I opted to play many n64 games instead). One day though, you will be able to find wii games for 10 bucks, just like you can find quite a few gamecube games. (I just bought Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4 for 4 dollars, it was 50 brand new.) I'm a frugal person though so that is what leads to my cheapness.
Also, games really aren't that bad in terms of inflation (gas and food have sky rocketed in the last 5 years), whereas, games are rather consistent. But in reality, would I rather spend my 50 hard earned bucks, on ONE wii game, TEN VC(nes) games, or FIVE used gamecube games at 9 bucks a pop. I certainly don't like option 1.

How important graphics have become
I have a friend that won't play a particular game if he thinks the graphics are "too cartoony".Because of this he won't play some games I show him like Timesplitters and Resident Evil 4
Since I played World of Warcraft the most over the past 3 years, the only real gripe I have is all the elitest dorks and **** kids who play that game, who act humble yet know every statistic memorized and know everything there is to know according to them, and don't realize they indeed are the elistest pricks in a party.
these types of players expect you to rise to theyre level of understanding and if you do not, you are kicked out of the group, its that simple. And there are alot of players just like this, in fact some of you reading this, this applies to you, not everyone but quite a few.
So if you happen to have a level 80 toon on wow, an epic flyer, all the end game raiding gear, and you did all this a week after wotlk released, your an elitest dork and you need to lighten up, because not every single player is as elitest as you are!
and if your still playing you haven't realized how much the game sucks since bc released, and cannot move to other games :)
So, all that said, I hate wow elitests, oh and they sound like complete dorks on vent too.
There are many things I hate about this gen, some of them are:
- Offline multiplayer / Splitscreen - It seams the developers expect everyone to play online and dont want anyone to have any real social interaction. I mean comon! Games are much much more fun to play with a friend or friends beside you and watch their priceless expression when you frag them.
- Multiplayer treatment - Nowadays, most games get away with mediocre and short SP campaigns by offering some sort of multiplayer option. I guess they should be reminded by games like MGS 4 and Bioshock.
- Leave it for the patch - Increasing trend, I hate when developers push games too quickly and release a patch within a week (which confirms they were aware of the problems). The first party guys like Sony and Microsoft should do more strict testing before giving the green light to send the games to gold.
If you have any other points, lemme know. I would love to know what you guys hate about this gen.
Gamer_4_Fun
I completely agree with everything and I hate that GAMES COST ME UPWARDS FROM 60 BUCKS!
2 big things:
1 - Unlockables...I picked up NHL 2K8 for 10 bucks the other day so I could play some classic teams, but almost all of them were locked and required completed challenges to unlock them. Since there were about 20 teams, that's 20 games of hockey to play. On my first attempt, I had to get a shutout to unlock the '75 Flyers...after keeping a shutout for 55 mins, I gave up a late 3rd period goal due to catchup AI, won the game 6-1, and still couldn't unlock the team. Stupid. Repeat for other games that don't give all substantial content at the outset. I'm fine for bonuses, like special guns in a shooting game, unlocking later, but actual content should be available upfront for people paying big bucks to play these games.
2 - Reliance on Online Play...I really don't enjoy playing video games online. It's like reading...it's one of the only activities I enjoy doing alone. Due to this, I feel like I've cut myself off from tons of GOTY-quality games that rely heavily on online play, like Call of Duty 4 or Gears of War 2, where the single player experience could be described as "short but sweet" at best. I'm also a heavy sports gamer, and franchise modes in sports games have been stagnant since the last generation because companies like EA focus so heaviy on online play.
...but I have no understanding of what hardcore means, apparently...SemiMaster
Hardcore would be an adjective to describe "videogame masters" or "videogame nerds". No game is hardcore, but rather hardcore appealing. Even so, the real hardcores are expert gamers, not the games themselves. This generation has sufficient hardcore appealing games, another thing would be if there were enough games that appeal to the hardcore or hardcore wannabe players of previous generations.
racist against people born in the 90's much? lack of zelda is my main complaintNot enough hardcore games. I can only think of a few hardcore games on each platform this year.
And no, when I say "hardcore", I don't mean "gory" or "realistic first-person shooter". If you were born in the 90's, don't ask, because you wouldn't understand.
Zweihand
Xbox Live allowing people with the IQ of a turnip scream obscenities at me, half-finished games, a demand for most games to have multiplier (even if it means a half-baked single player and multiplayer experiences), and console gamers who think PC gaming is dying.
The focus on graphics over gameplay.zeorshadow19
I'm fed up that people honestly believe that graphics are all designers care about nowadays. Because improvements in graphics are more prevalent than improvements in genre creation or ways to tell a story doesn't mean that better graphics with constantly evolving and more dynamic gameplay is a bad thing.
Lemme put it this way...
If new and innovative games were so easy to bang out, then everyone would do it. Progression in technology inherently increases graphical capability, let alone new physics and AI scripting and stuff as well, but people clearly don't appreciate that.
That or there just aren't enough people with HDTVs out there.

Yeah all this whining over graphics gets on my nerves. People are just blaming bad games on graphics because graphics are getting better. It's all silly.Online that isn't free, mandatory installs, unreliable hardware, delays etc.Floppy_JimTrue except for I can leave with delays. Nothing's worst than a rushed game.
