[QUOTE="MobilechicaneX"]Codemasters have been MEH since they stopped making Dizzy games. not they are the only multiplat dev that has made awesome racers this gen. gird and dirt 2 own. No other games come close in the damage and fun factor. Codies is one of the best racing devs around and make much more run and realistic games than pd. gt5's damage is a joke next to the 4 year old game called dirt and dirt 2 took it to a level that pd could only dream of. Sure dirt 2 may have lacked cars and tracks but the quality of what there was is very high and every second is awesome, not to mention the best graphics in any racer and rivals crysis on pc, no 2d environments like gt5.Review scores do NOT = fact guys.
Anyway my favorate racing series this gen is probably Dirt or GRID. Both made by CODEMASTERS.

Thats because you havent given FM3 a try:) Its one of the most accessible racers EVER, and as you get more comfortable youll turn off assists. I never ever dreamed of playing with them off and a force feedback wheel but given the games customisation, it eases you in.[QUOTE="GulliversTravel"][QUOTE="Wanderer5"]
Don't care for Forza since I can't get into racing sims. Burnout Paradise and Mario Kart DS are the best to me, and I will see if Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit can top them along with Dirt 2.

True, I only played the demo of Forza 2. Too bad I don't own a 360 so I can actually try FM3 but I couldn't get into the GT series and the Forza 2 demo didn't impress me.
Well i didnt enjoy FM2 much, but FM3 is way better. The game is full of content and looks beautiful so it never gets stale. The rewind feature is enough reason to get the game as it gives you so more opportunity to drive adventurously. Are people playing the same mario kart as myself, and a few others in this thread? I won't deny the rubberband ai, but the game still has tons of depth. The difference between a midrange player and an advanced player is HUGE. Even with blue shells galore, the advanced player will win everytime. Get enough advanced players together and, believe it or not, the blue shell isn't even a great item anymore.
[QUOTE="bigM10231"][QUOTE="SPBoss"]iRacing is better then all of those games :)SPBosshave you played forza or GT? if not then you shouldnt say its better if you havent played them with the wheel I have played all of them with a g27.. I know what game offers the best handling realism, forza is arcadey and gt5 is inbetween sim/arcade. iRacing is a proper racing simulator.. they are all great games though :)can you tune up cars like in forza or GT5 or race your moms car with a racecar?

The problem is when people are not good at a game its easy to justify it by saying that the game is mostlydecided byluck.

Realistic handling mods are available for games like gta, the driving physics engine was good but they didn't tune the cars properly, I put real cars and real handling so the cars aren't so loose on their suspension. Thats a mod of course so it probably don't count
Motorstorm and Split/Secondlamprey263
You enjoyed Motorstorm and Split/Second? I never gave SS a shot, is it similar to Motorstorm in any way? I agree with Motorstorm, btw, as I feel it is one of the only difficult games this generation.
My favourites this gen are Mario Kart Wii, Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit and Burnout Paradise. All games that entertain the hell out of me everytime I play them.
I also have Split/Second sitting on my shelf, picked it up for €5. I don't know what to expect really, but I've heard a lot of good stories about it.

Yeah, I agree. I played a lot against my brother and I believe he beat me only one single time in about 50 races, even with bots participating. Even with all the items, the advanced player will always beat the midranged player as you said, and not by a few seconds, but often by well over 10-15 seconds.
I do think luck starts playing a bigger role once you get more advanced players together in one room. I played quite a lot of clan and pro matches (i.e. full of people with high VR ratings), and often those matches were decided by items rather than skill, as the skill gap between such players is often too small to make a difference when items come into play.

You hit it on the head. MarioKart is probably the most furious racer out there. However, you mention Luck vs Skill. I agree with you to an extent, but there's also the thinking ahead aspect to the game, which I really like.
I'd also like to comment on GT5. Someone mentioned "using other cars as bumpers" and "cheating through s-curves." From my experience with the game--basically EVERY game I've played thus far against other people--GT5 is the ONLY racing game where players seem to have some level of respect. What I mean by this is they respect what makes someone good at the game. I've had people back down out of a possible pass because I may have given a turn a better judgement. So instead of of hitting me, the player assumed position behind me waiting for the next opportunity to pass. I have NEVER witnessed this in a racing game. And this is the norm, rather than the exception.
That sounds amazing, a game where online competitors aren't cheap opportunists. Surely beats the hell out of some of the idiots on NFS: Hot Pursuit who can only win by trying to bump other racers into a wall or oncoming traffic. It just annoys me to no extent. Last week I was in a race against some American guy. Soon after the start he bumped me into an oncoming car, causing me to crash, fall back to last place and lose 15 seconds on the leader. I concluded the race finishing second, ending only 1 second behind the American guy. I wondered who the true winner was.
Although I must say, on high level races, there is very little contact between the cars of racers. I like that.
