I just read this on GAF and I'm downloading now. Honestly, I am not expecting much (I hated the controls of Rise to Honor, Grabbed by the Ghoulies and Death by Degrees) but at least Dyack has enough faith in his game to let people try before they buy. Maybe I'll be surprised.

I didn't like the controls very much. Just wasn't digging the stick combat. The animations weren't very good. Hack n Slash games without good animation makes me a sad panda. Darn camera pissed me off several times. I had targeting issues as well. I saw some chugging with some cutscenes. I lurve loot. I has four 70s in WoW tricked out for maxmium tears from my enemies. I might try it again after I eat some food. Just woke up. 8)

Looks like XBL is down. The download was stuck at 55% for 10 minutes, so I logged out, but haven't been able to log back in.

EDIT: Looks like it was just a hiccup. I was able to log onto XBL, though for some reason my download was rolled back to 38%, its creeping upwards.

I'm actually enjoying the game somewhat. It's very.... uneven. That's probably the best way to describe it. Sometimes it looks great -- like Mass Effect without the broken framerate -- but then the animation isn't as good as it could be, and Baldur looks like he's floating while running.

I really like the story so far. I like that it's told through flashbacks.

The right analog firing system works better than I expected, but it's not going to make someone swear off conventional controls, either. I like that you can target different parts of enemies at times, but I found this was unpredictable due to the controls. It might just be that I haven't spent enough time with the game yet.

The leveling system looks awesome. That's honestly one of the main reasons I'm pumped for this game. I've always liked games like Diablo and Champions of Norrath, so Too Human already has an in with me as far as that goes, especially since games in that genre have gotten really scarce. Speaking of scarce, it seems like there isn't much loot to be found so far. Perhaps that's due to it being just a demo, but it feels really strange to have a Diablo-style game that isn't absolutely loading you up with items.

The camera is really hard to get used to. I find myself using the right stick to adjust the camera all the time, which makes Baldur start swinging. I'm not ready to condemn it for this, but it's definitely going to take some time to adjust.

Having played for a bit, I'm intrigued, but not blown away. I'm honestly just glad that the combat isn't a trainwreck. I'm still probably in the "buy" column -- for now. We'll see if it holds up with time.

EDIT: I also really like the technology/mythology design of the game.

And yeah, what I said earlier about there not being enough items? Forget it -- there's plenty. I just beat the demo and I have to say that I like it. It's not a game that's going to be for everyone, but it definitely looks like it'll fill a void in the 360 lineup. There are parts of the game that feel really awesome, and others that are pretty blah.

this is the biggest reason i'm downloading the demo and hoping that the game turns out well...the 360 is my only console for now so i'm all for trying out titles that stray from the usual staples (FPS, squad-based shooters, racing games)...

I'm a big fan of two of Silicon Knight's previous creations: Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, and Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. So I am going to give this a shot, despite not being a huge fan of games built around hack n slash elements. I just hate that I have to wait until I get home tonight to do it.

I played a little bit of the demo and I love it. This game is a definite purchase for me, can't wait. I really enjoy these Diablo-esque type of games with the skill trees, customisation of weapons and armour, and of course all the loot.

Nice impressions Shamus, this game is a buy for me I miss the Diablo style games and while it sounds like it is going to have some flaws and annoyances the overall gameplay seems to sound enough to carry the game.

Demos are advertising. MS and Sony's practice of delaying and/or withholding advertising from people who don't pay a premium is counterproductive.

Yeah that's true. I guess it's 50/50 thing. You do them a favour by trying a game that may get you to buy something that you otherwise might not have noticed and they do you a favour by letting you try the game before you run out and spend your money on it. I do think demos should be freely accessable to everyone though. My comment wasn't meant to address that issue just on the whole 'who is doing who a favour' thing.

I played the demo for 30 minutes and just stopped. The gameplay, animation, physics, enemy design and art direction are really bland. The melee combat is really horrible. Press in a direction, watch Baldur go through a slow and sometimes long attack animation (he always go through the whole thing even if the first part of the attack killed the enemy you targetted) then press in direction of another enemy and watch another attack animation. One can roll and jump but one can't interrupt attacks. Nothing like having an enemy slashing at Baldur's back (normal attacks don't disrupt Baldur's attacks) while Baldur is swinging away at air. The gun targetting is pretty bad as well. Unlike melee attacks, one has a measure of freedom, but firearms don't feel any more satisfying than melee weapons (I used a grenade launcher and pistols).

The whole game justs lacks polish (to belabour a point I already made, it never feels like the characters are really hitting each other). There is a nice variety of weapons and armor, but that's about all I can say for this.

I felt the exact same way, only pluses for me were the decent story, robust skill tree, and equipment customization...But when it came to the actual gameplay, it was pretty subpar, but hey maybe that is because I've been playing Ninja Gaiden 2 lately. Looks like I'll just have to wait for Fable 2 and Fallout 3 to come along.

Yes I agree on pretty much all those points. I simply can't enjoy a game where you're constantly surrounded by enemies, but have no means of defending yourself from all of them. The camera is terrible, and your character feels about as nimble as an 800-lb slab of concrete. Top it all off with generally poor graphics and an atrocious framerate...and it really makes me feel like this game needed another 8 years of development time.

My 360 is being borrowed until this weekend, but I think I should be spared the pain.

Too Human was one of my most anticipated titles. I loved Eternal Darkness to death but... apparently Too Human won't break the ground that ED did.

Well I got an hour on this right now and I'm loving it. I love being swarmed and pressing the right buton to unleash that power thingy. I think the weapon play is fun, and the shooting reminds me of old dual joy stick arcade games like Robotron, SmashTV, and Geometry Wars. Also the building of armor and collecting crap is something I love.... so hell yes I'm going to pick this up when it comes out.

You guys can also change the camera with up and down on the D-Pad, by the way.

That could be it. I remember playing God of War mere months after playing Ninja Gaiden Black and thinking the game was a repetitive bore despite good production values. I probably would've felt differently had I played it before Ninja Gaiden.

That said, I don't know what to think of Too Human. It does a lot right and it does a lot wrong. The animations in particular irk me for some reason. Baldur's walk reminds me of something I'd have seen in a PS1 title.

The combat did get fun after I had leveld up a bit and found some new weaponry. At that point things sped up and the attacks seemed to vary a bit more. I guess combat isn't this game's main focus though. Scoring loot and Story is in a game like this. Although that seems faulty when 90% of your interaction with the game is going to be combat.

Demos are advertising. MS and Sony's practice of delaying and/or withholding advertising from people who don't pay a premium is counterproductive.

Demos are more of a privilage than just mere advertising. I've never heard someone say "because I thought I was doing them a favor by reading about/looking at their game." If a company decided to print an ad in a certain magazine or something else.

Anyways about the game...here's my two cents.

Graphics...I would think by looking at this game it was a port from another system rather than a title that was just for one system. It doesn't look like they've used a fraction of the 360's power as a lot of the other exclusives have. I do think the slowness of combat was more due to the way the controls slowly reacted to the buton presses rather than framerate drops.

Controls: Not very intuitive but I was able to pick them up fast and once I did, I had hardly any problems with them except the delay in response time doing things like switching from ranged to melee or changing directions in melee combat.

Combat: Seeing as for this type of game, combat is usually either a point and click affair or a button mashing thing, I actually enjoyed the old dual arcade stick type feel and felt that once Baldur actually reacted to the controls, the effects were nice. It's not in every action RPG you can air juggle enemies and seeing as this is just a demo, I didn't get to experience some other things I would have liked to such as mines and things like that.

Loot: The loot is what I was most happy with and there seems to be a ton of it. by the end of the demo my character was decked out in all gold armor and mask with a wickedly huge looking blade... in other words he kicked ass.

Design: I was wowed by the design. The mix of mythology and technology is a terrific blend and I thought the creatures carried this over nicely. The sword fodder in this demo were called Goblins and instead of looking like a bunch of your typical beasts they kind of looked like Glados and Star Wars robots mixed into one. The larger enemy was a nice change of pace seeing as you had to target certain parts and dismember it first.

I'm looking forward to this game and while I know it's not going to be the great title I was hoping it would be, it seems fun none the less. I see it getting about a 7.5 rating maybe an 8 if there are some surprises that they left out or some last minute tweaking they can do...

Too Human plays a bit strange...not bad just strange.A bit like a combination of Baldur´s Gate (looking at the main character´s name it´s pure sarcasm),Devil May Cry and Blade 2.Too Bad that the Camera is awful, but sometimes a basically good idea lie the 360 degrees Fighting-System has his costs.I don´t remember Blade 2 ´having that big problem but it didn´t use such spectacular camera-angles.

Over all I like the graphics... I kind of struggled with the controls..it is something new to me. I do like being able to toss an enemy into the air and unload ranged attacks on it. I do think that I will buy the game though I liked what I played some I am really interested in it. I may not play as Baldur (I think that's his name) since there are other characters to choose from that may work out better for me since I am kind of new to the whole gaming thing

I love the whole mix of mythology/technology. I'm a real sucker for that kind of thing. Also really love the massive cathedral-like layout of the game's environment.

I just got finished playing the demo and I now I can't wait for it to come out. The analog stick combat is pretty cool and the story is way better than what I expected. Way to go Silicon Knights.....now if you guys can only come out with another Eternal Darkness then I would be a happy camper.

It's okay.

The camera becomes moderately less asstastic when you bump it up to the isometric view, since at least it's less distracting when you turn and it flops all over the place.

The big robot boss is bugged, which is amusing. And not subtly bugged, so you'd think someone would have caught that immediately.

The menus are godawful. They are sort of functional (at least the equipment menu is) but are ugly and clunky. They remind me of KOTOR's menu system.

Combat is really weird. I never did get the hang of it in the time I played, but I did feel more comfortable than at the beginning. Even so, it's ridiculously hard removing the urge to use the right stick to control the camera, which brings Baldur to a halt so he can go through his little canned slashing animation.

The soldiers also look like retards, and the robots have suspiciously Geth-like faces. At least they have more aggressive stances than Mass Effect, where some of the Geth moved weird or were roughly as threatening-looking as a daddy longlegs.

Facial animations are clipped weird too, especially the eyes. You can see the keyframes.

Yeah I noticed that too. There's a few places in that area where if you stand, the robot just stops moving and stares at you.

I thought all the animations were pretty awful, personally. Baldur (is that his name?) looks like he's ice skating all over the floor when he runs, and his attack animations feel really jerky.

Yeah I noticed that too. There's a few places in that area where if you stand, the robot just stops moving and stares at you.Teufelhuhn

Yeah, and his big ground-pound attack fires out horizontally, so even if he is aware of you he'll do that over and over again from the top of the ramp and you can just move backwards a little bit and his attack will go over your head as you pump him full of bullets.

All the animations are pretty awful, I'd have to agree. I was just offended by the facial stuff, as the camera goes in so close that you'd think they'd put more effort into it.

Apparently there are tricks to try out the other ****s, so I might have to test those out. Either way the game might be fun in spite of its flaws, as a co-op dungeon crawler collecting tons of loot. It's just a shame it's not more polished.

Any PSO fans out there? How is it compared to PSO. dvader654

Not as charming, and the two player online co-op won't even hold a candle to the awesomeness that is PSO.

We only get to play as the Champion type which is your all around average type. The levels are a lot more opened than the narrow arenas that PSO had. Also the loot is more like Diablos where you have 6 or 7 various pieces of armor, then you also have proficiencies in swords, staffs, clubs/hammers, pistols, rifles and things like that. Even the name of the loot is similar to Diablo's with weapons like Gauss pistols of the Maiden... and crap like that.

Can't really say how many different types of enemies there are going to be. The "Goblins" look like they have the grunts, then they have ones that sit back and launch rockets and they have mini bosses (like diablo) with different names and abilities such as shields and ability to knock you down...

Then the Giant boss, like someone else said was handled differently by was bugged. you could stand on lower levels of the stairs and the bosses animation was set only to pound thr ground level with its feet. so the area of effect would just go overhead. I also ran into the back room where he came out of and the boss didn't follow me in, he just sat there while my squad buddies just hung out with him. When I ran back out combat resumed.

Even with these problems I'm finding the game much better than PSO. PSO had such a slow pace and 9 different enemies recycled over and over again.

I never thought about comparing them. It´s faster, you got more individual Stuff to power up (the typical Western Action-RPG-Stuff) and well...doesn´t have the typical japanese charme.PSO is a MMORPG after all.If you whould compare it to PSU´s Single Player, you could say it´s a bit more in Devil May Cry-Direction and seems to be without the typical "Kill 20 Enemys and the door opens".It´s a Action-Game with basic RPG-Elements.

Does anyone know how death works in this game? Do you just keep getting picked up by an angel and constantly get thrown back into a battle with a half-beaten boss and little to know lenalty for dying? If so ..... very crappy.

I think bonus areas are closed. I went trough a portal, died, was sent to the room before the portal room, and couldn't go back through there to get some bonus loot.
