What he said. Gamefly's fee has nothing to do with the publishers. They only pay for the initial rental copies. So this is actually better for publishers. You and your friends are always there, not at some offsite, ready to buy more of that publisher's stuff when you get an impulse to do so.
Besides, Xbox Live Gold has a montly fee too.

Risking the lost of sales is a good thing for publishers?
They're only risking this being worse than GameFly and used games which it won't be since they will limit to each copy being shared with a maximum of 10 people. Not unlimited used games sales. Not unlimited rentals. Get it?
And again, from what I understand publishers still have a right to opt out and I expect some additional restrictions. Some games might not be available for the sharing plan. That's up to each publisher. And there may be additional restrictions similar to rental stores, like not being able to share games day 1 on release date. Not all of it has been fully clarified.
Look into Sony's UltraViolet service. It's the same thing and it appears to be a lucrative model for movies which have less re-play value than most games do. The upside is that gamers will also encourage each other to keep their game libraries fresh and new. So buy more games. So other gamers will want to share with them.
