Started Phantasy Star II on the GBA, and Tomb Raider Legend on the PSPDudersaper
Will be interested to hear your thoughts on it once you start making some real progress into the game.
The game is archaic as fvck and can be a real chore at times, but I have a real soft spot in my heart for it. It has so much atmosphere. I love how artificial and sci-fi everything feels.
I started playing Chrono Trigger for the first time and so far it's very good. The pacing is great and I really like the combat system.Â
I'm in the middle of Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage on PS1. I needed a bit of a break from RPGs, and this seemed like the perfect mindless excursion. I'm having fun with it, but not as much fun as I did with the original Spyro the Dragon on PS1.
Decided to play Metroid Prime 1 on the Wii, soon as I'm done I'll be playing REmake

These 2 games are the top 2 reasons to own a Gamecube back in the day. Fan-freaking-tastic games and 2 of the best of that generation. Enjoy, my friend.

I'm pretty sure I've seen Metroid Prime to the end about 7000 times since my mum bought it for me in 2003, I was only 10, I'm still not bored of the game. Definitely one of my favourite games ever created (not sure where I stand on which out of the trilogy is the best one though, which for some is an easy choice, but not me). Games that I play 5-10 years later and stil not bored after beating it dozens of times are my faovurites, I'm sure REmake will turn out to be that way too, as, surprisingly never played REmake, only the original as a kid.
From a retro perspective I'm working my through the Splinter Cell HD trilogy (the whole thing is on sale in the PlayStation Store for only £8, couldn't say no) and the glorious Okami HD.
in terms of retro games, System Shock 2 , I was so impressed by Bioshock Infinite that I decided to get System Shock 2 as its the predecessor to the Bioshock series.
Â
very good game, Im quite amazed there are places in System Shock 2 which are frightning or very tense, even to a person like me who has been gaming for 20 years)

I've gotten a good chunk into Dragon Quest IX for the DS. It's a really solid game but I'm not liking it as much other games in the series, mainly VIII.Eikichi-Onizuka
I'm pretty interested in playing Dragon Quest IX, but for me, the killer presentation in Dragon Quest VIII is going to be a really fvcking hard act to follow, especially considering DQIX is on a handheld.
I just finished Final Fantasy VII a few minutes ago. Sephiroth's theme will forever be melted into my head. :P
I'm not sure what I'll play next. It's a tie between Persona 4 and Final Fantasy IX.

Just for the sake of varying it up, I'd go with Persona even tho Final Fantasy IX is my second favorite RPG ever.
Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga
Then it's on to Persona 3
Then on to DDS2
Then nothing because the awesomeness of these games (+persona 4 which I played before) will make all future rpgs/games obsolete.
There's always the rest of the SMT series. The Devil Summoner games are pretty dope. But yeah, the ones you named are the best in the SMT series imo.Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga

The game looks good for a handheld but yeah it doesn't touch VIII. There is a lot of content but the world also feels smaller. I would definitely recommend it though, in some ways it's better than VIII with the added customization, gameplay wise.[QUOTE="GreySeal9"][QUOTE="Eikichi-Onizuka"]I've gotten a good chunk into Dragon Quest IX for the DS. A bit off topic, buuuut... how far off from DQ VIII is Wrath of the White Which, from a gameplay stand point? The only reason I ask is because the presentation is really Level-5/DQ VIII (in a positive way).I haven't played through Ni no Kuni but have played enough to say they are very different gameplay wise(can move freely around the battlefield). Ni no Kuni's battle system is a mix of real time and turn-based and feels a lot different. There is also the Pokemon-esque monster collecting/training. Eikichi-OnizukaThank you! I have heard nothing but good things about Ni no Kuni, but if I ever get a PS3, that and Demon's Souls are basically the two system sellers for me!
Started playing FF8 on the Vita. I had trouble with it last year when I had L2/R2 assigned to the rear-touch pad which would make some text unskippable if you accidentally pressed them. I've gone and moved those inputs over to the touch-screen now and the problem has gone. I haven't played the game since release (and back then I played the godawful PC version in slow-motion) so I hardly remember a thing. The game is giving me a lot of difficulty and is far more grindy than I remember (draw grinding, not exp). I just finished FF7 last year and I have to say the jump up in terms of body language the characters can convey is really amazing; you walk past groups of girls who break in giggles and excitedly chatter to one another. You are on a boat and all the developer has done is make the screen shake a little to convey the motion of the sea (simple but very effective). And the animation is simply incredible. I am not sure if the character animations are 60FPS or 30 but the quality of the animation itself is easily fighting game standard (FF9 is a slide-show in comparison). This is the one FF that I always had a hate-dislike relationship with so I want to see if giving it another chance now that I am a better RPG gamer is going to help.Articuno76
If it wasn't for the weird junction and draw systems, the balance issues, the early overeliance on GFs (which drag out the battles), and the under-developed story (the time compression concept need WAY more time in the oven), I would probably like FFVIII better than FFVII simply because its world is so much more interesting, it is sooooo much better looking with much more creativity in the visual design, the pacing is more exciting, it's not filled with bad mini-games, it controls alot better (FFVII has really weird molasses-like controls), and I actually find the characters to be more developed. For instance, Rinoa has far more development/personality than Tifa or Aeris, even if she has a rather childish personality.
But when it comes down to it, FFVII simply plays better in combat situations and the materia customization system is far superior to the draw/junction systems.
Although the battles in FFIX do seem slower than the other 2 PS1 FFs (probably because you can have 4 characters is battle), I think that it is easily the best of the 3 simply because it has the good looks of FFVIII (actually, it looks noticeably better) and a simple customization system similar to materia, but a little better IMO. It combines polish with high playability while FFVII lacks polish and FFVIII is lacking in terms of playability.
Um wut? Is playing Digital Devil Saga 2 pretty much a requirement of understanding what the **** is going on in the story of DDS1? Probably the only rpg I've played where almost nothing was explained at all. Still a great game though.
just finished zelda 2 with save states. Now I'm trying to finish it without any cheating. Can't get past death mountain
Breath of Fire IV, i'm on the ship in Shikk.
Love this guy
He doesn't get much in term of character development but battle wise he's so good, got an attack that always crit at the cost of 10 AP and if you give him weapons where he can hit twice thats double critical. The Focus skills + might = a solid 2000 per hit.
@Lucianu: Great choice buddy, this is a game i can always easily go back to, with its fast-paced action and hectic multiplayer.
At the moment I just finished Swat Katz and Dracula X, so I'll resume my Breath of Fire IV playthrough playing a bit of Super CV IV and Lament of Innocence on the side.
I can never just play one game at a time.
