What is the worst game in your favorite series. Why?
mine personally is final fantasy 12 because it tried to be a MMORPG... it wasn't.

The CDI Zelda games are a abomination, but I don't consider them apart of the francise.
Â
A lot of people will tell you that Adventure of Link was crap, but I loved it. So I guess I gotta go with Wind Waker, it wasn't a bad game, it'sÂ
just that I expected more enhancements from Ocarina since they weren't improving graphics.Â
Final Fantasy II, Metroid II: Return of Samus, Super Mario Bros. 2, Legend of Zelda II. Can't pick a favorite series, really.
What is it about sophomore efforts in great series?
DMC series- DMC2
LoZ series (excluding the CDI Zeldas)- TP
Final Fantasy- FFXII

That's another one. Wind Waker completely turned me off of the series. Might take a lot of healing and low low discount prices to make me buy TP.Â
MGS:PO, got rid of my one super favorite aspect of MGS...one lone man, on an epic mission...now its a squad on little scattered missions...weak.snakeofsolid
Is the story weak though?Â
And yet none of these games can beat Bloody Roar 4's magical vortex of suck.
Then again, Devil May Cry 2 would be one of my picks as well.

Sailing was horrific and the tedium of digging up triforce pieces and it was just less Zelda dungeon crawling, more sailing around with clunky boat controls. Not fun enough to even put in my GC a second time.Â
Zelda II, it's not an offshoot or spin-off of the series, it's considered to be an installment in the series and it is by far my least favorite. Compared to other games of its time it was not so bad, but it personally stained my favorite series.homegirl2180
Believe it or not Zelda II is by far my favorite game in the Zelda series. The game is actually a challenge and a pretty good adventure/RPG hybrid. Plus, that downward slash is just too satisfying. (BWOOOOMP) - downward slash sound effect

Eh, to each his own. I beat it only for the series' sake (the Legend of Zelda Collector's Disc). I will say it was more difficult than other games in the series (though I might have had more trouble with the original Legend of Zelda if I remember correctly), but it just, I don't know, the soul felt lost. I really just didn't enjoy it much. It just wasn't Zelda to me.
Just out of curiosity, if that's your favorite, I shudder to think of what is your least favorite in the series, but I'll ask anyway. What's your least favorite in the Legend of Zelda series?
Touhou - Probably "Highly Responsive To Prayer," the first one. They didn't have the modern Touhou gameplay formula down by then.
Teuvan
Wasn't it more like "Breakout" instead of a "shoot-em-up"?Â
Anyway most of my favorite games don't really have series, but for one well known one, the Final Fantasy series would have to be X-2 followed by XII.Â

Hmm tough call. I've played The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II, Link's Awakening, A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, some of Wind Waker, and haven't started Twilight Princess yet. The original was great and gets tons of innovation points. I really like the GB/GBC Link's Awakening. There is something very charming about that one. Link to the Past was a great "return-to-form". Ocarina gets a nod for not butchering yet another franchise with a piss poor 3D "interpretation." From the little I played of Wind Waker, it seemed to have a lot of charm. I haven't played TP enough to judge. I guess I would say Majora's Mask was my least favorite even though I by no means felt it was a bad game.
There are a few that come to mind:
Prince of Persia: The Warrior Within.
Halo 2.
Metroid Prime 2: Echos.
Phantasy Star Online: how SEGA ended up relegating one of their strongest franchises to the boring, pointless MMORPG formula makes me feel they deserved what they got. How can a company so utterly destroy one of their gems?Â
EDIT: A few more to add:
Shinobi, Deus Ex 2, the new 3D Castlevanias.Â
They could do incredible things with castlevania in 3D. Imagine playing a Castlevania game with the graphics and atmosphere of Resident Evil 4. The same behind the back perspective, RPG elements, great story, epic boss battles, incredible soundtrack....MAN that would be amazing!

I don't know, sometimes developers brains fall out and they decide to change everything that made the original so good.
My favorite series is Xenosaga, and Episode 2 is absolute garbage. Final Fantasy X-2, Baten Kaitos Origins, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, and Chrono Cross are also some very disappointing sophomore efforts.

i actually kinda liked the sailing...but the part where you had to find the triforce peices was kinda anoying lol. but to each their own :)Â
Well my fave series is Sonic the Hedgehog.....You probly think im gona say Sonic 360...nope....
IMO the worst Sonic game was Sonic Riders....control mostly was my main complaint
perefct dark zero. As good s it was, I tried to make myself like it.GIJesse77Thats the same with me. Man the story in that game was horrible. It made me wanna puke. After a while I actually asked myself, "did I actually buy this game"?
Final Fantasy V- I still have no idea how this one even got made, honestly.
Mario 64- Yeah, yeah, revolutionary and a landmark achievement and all that. I don't care, I still hated it when this series I grew up with went 3D, and I don't think it has ever been as good since those 2D days.

I agree with you 100%. You are my new best friend on these boards Weltall. I personally love Fenrir though.
I agree with Xenosaga Episode II, Baten Kaitos Origins, and Chrono Cross. I've never played FFX-2 but it looks like it was bad. I did love FFTA but I didn't think it was better than FFT for the PSOne. The only thing better about FFTA is the translation.
