[QUOTE="BuryMe"]So it's the only store in your city... You clearly have access to the internet, so you have plenty of other means of trading... So why are you complaining? If you don't like their trade values, sell or trade games on the internet at places like ebay or Amazon...

Greyfeld

Either people are blind or just plain stupid. I already said that I CAN AND WILL COMPLAIN BECAUSE PEOPLE DON'T UNDERSTAND APPARENTLY WHAT THE HELL IT MEANS WHEN I SAID I GOT RIPPED OFF BY SAID INTERNET FOR GAMES SO WHY IN THE BLUE HELL WOULD I USE IT AS A SOURCE TO GET OTHER GAMES? now unless you're going to give me a car so I can go to the hour away store from here, I'd suggest you either open your damn eyes and read or shut the hell up.

For the record, you seem to be like, the only person in existence that doesn't know how to avoid getting ripped off online.

and your point is?

My point is, your experiences don't make the internet a less valid source of buying/selling/trading video games. Your experiences just mean that you don't know what you're doing, and need to learn how to purchase properly. So ultimately, your complaints are invalid.

and you are just an idiot who has no idea what the hell they are talking about. When you have lost as much money as I have then come talk to me, until then shut up.

So scary!!! In all seriousness, I use ebay, my mother uses ebay, my friends use ebay. I'd say that between all of our sales and purchases, we've gotten ripped off maybe 2% of the time. If you're losing THAT much money while trying to purchase items online, the fault lies in you, not the internet as a whole. Unless you're going to try to tell me that the experiences of the world at large are irrelevant, because the internet is just out to get you.

Seriously shut up I could give two rat's as to what you have done or who you have done for that matter. I don't like a site that rips you off and I know what the hell I am doing so again shut up. The whole incident made me turn away from using sites like that, and no matter what YOUE experiences are that isn't going to change my mind so just back the hell off.

Unfortunately, it's quite clear that you have no desire to listen to what anybody else has to say. I'm sorry you feel the need to shut everybody up who doesn't agree with you.

Ever hear the expression "Once bitten twice shy"? That fits my situation with ebay now again back off.

For the record, ebay isn't the only website that sells video games. As a matter of fact, I've found Amazon to be pretty good. At the very least, with ebay, you're buying from other regular people the majority of the time. At least with online vendors, you're dealing with an official company that has return policies and purchase warranties and such.

Hah, I'd say the opposite about Gamestop! I got Soul Calibur IV for the 360 over there for only $14.99!

Ultimately, my point is, you don't have a right to complain about gamestop, since shopping there is per your own self-placed limitations, not because you're physically lacking options.

The problem is that Ebay isn't really a retail site in the same way a place like Amazon is. Ebay is really just an intermediary for people to sell to each other, which is why you can get ripped off from time to time. By contrast, Amazon and other legitimate retail outlets are incredibly secure and back up their merchandise with refunds, etc.

Regardless, you really need to relax a bit because the level of hostility in your posts is asinine.

I can't speak for everyone but the gamestop near me has done more than enough to the majority of it's customers to warrant no sells. For example, I bought a new game a few years ago, the game wasn't wrapped but I was told that I had the same policy as if it were wrapped. Well that same day I received the same game as a late gift from a friend, and of course the version he got me was used. I took the "new" game back but was told that since it was opened my only option was to get the trade in value which was extremely low compared to what I actually paid. So what I was told and how it went down were two completely different things. And it doesn't end there either. Every time I was browsing within the store I was constantly hearing the employees telling customers that the PS3 was a POS, the Wii is for kids and that only true gamers own a 360. Don't get me wrong, if your favorite system is the 360 that's fine but being biased against all systems except yours needs to be left at the door. There are other examples but those were the two major ones that has me buying games from a different retailer.

So my hatred for Gamestop has to be with the actually store near me not them as a corporation. People need to understand that complaining isn't doing anything, gamestop is a company just like Bestbuy or Walmart and they will do anything to make a profit. If you feel the need to sell your games then you can go the route of gamestop but there are other methods out there so it's not as if gamestop is the only place in the world that buys back used games. As with the selling used games new, yeah I wish they would stop that but apparently people haven't spoken out about it enough so a lot of people don't see it as an issue but that just means gamestop isn't getting any of my money.

I think they just think that trade-in values aren't worth it. Which is true 99% of the time. But they're not a bad place to buy used.

You can't ever have a logical conversation with a Gamestop employee most of the time. Arguing release dates and what-not. Trade ins aren't really worth it at all as well. I'd rather just keep my games. So yeah, no-no to Gamestop.

[QUOTE="WindedSailor"]

I went in to buy NHL 2K10 the other day.

Q: I'd like a copy of NHL 2K10 for the XBOX 360, please.

A: Do you know you're the first one who's asked for that? I didn't even know it was released.

Q: Huh. Well, I'd still like NHL 2K10.

A: Um, OK. You sure you don't want NHL 10?

Q: Yes. (and "just gimme the damn game" is what I felt like saying.)

If I go to buy something, I'm pretty sure it's what I want. They don't get commission or anything; I don't see why I should have to defend a purchase.

Grammaton-Cleric

Well, I'd maybe see your point if he wasn't dead on about NHL 10 being vastly superior. In this instance, I don't think he was being a jerk but rather trying to help you make a better choice.

Don't get me started on NHL 10 v. NHL 2K10. I could go off for hours.

Its simple, they overprice on used games and tade in value of games are ridulously low. They wanted to give me $15 for my GTA IV when i wanted to sell it 6 months after it came out. I sold it on ebay for $35. Yea, gamestop rip off people big time.

Here are the reasons I hate Gamestop:

1. Their employees very rarely actually know much about gaming, I talked to one guy who had never heard of Red Faction and one girl who literally thought no one bought PC games anymore.

2. They lie. I asked one guy if far cry 2 was in when it came out (on the day EB Games listed as the release) and was told it hadn't come in yet. What the idiot failed to relize was I saw the box of Far Cry 2 games for PC behind the counter with the paper saying not to sell them until two days later (the street date).

3. They don't pay attention. Three times they have went to get me a game and brought back the wrong one. Twice they have failed to call me to tell me a preorder was in.

This is not all one store but as a chain they suck.

I just want to say, you can't really hold it against him for lying about that. He was ordered not to sell them for 2 more days. Despite knowing this, you asked him anyway. So, his options were to either tell you the truth, and have to fight with you about it in the middle of store hours, or lie so that you'd at least pretend you believed him and get the hell out of his shop.

I know this, because I'm not an idiot and can read between the lines. He obviously knew that he couldn't purchase the game from that gamestop, because he saw the note on the games behind the counter. Yet, instead of accepting that knowledge and coming back in 2 days, he decided to put the employee on the spot anyway. Now, the employee, knowing that this game can't be sold, per management, for 2 more days, has two options. He can either repeat himself multiple times a day, about the fact that they HAVE the game, but are not allowed to sell them yet, and deal with potential customers that don't know how to take "no" for an answer... or can can lie, and make life a lot easier on everybody involved. I don't see what's so difficult to understand about that point of view.

Troll or not, your logic remains weak, You haven't offered one single viable reason for not using online retailers save the eBay example, which I and others have pointed out isn't really an online retailer to begin with. There are plenty of safe, secure places you can get games online but for whatever reason you reject that notion and instead spewinsults so best of luck.

You are free to not choose to purchase games online. However, it remains an option whether or not you wish to use it. To declare that you have no other options that GS is thus in error. No one is insisting that you use the Internet to get games. The majority of us that are discussing this are either trying to understand why you refuse to discuss it rationally without personal insults and diatribes, or are trying to explain to you that just because you choose not to use it does not mean that it is not an option. If you are declaring the fault of the Internet, then you do need to justify it. You are taking a position, and in any disscusion, a selected position must be given support; it is not accepted just because someone says so.

Contrary to most people I am actually very nice to retailers. After working retail jobs for the last 6 years I know their pain. I would of left the store nicely, instead now I haven't bought anything from that store since. Honesty counts for me, I had shopped at that store many times before. Oh while I am on that store, they sold em a burned game once. I bought the battle chest of Warcraft II used and when I got home there was a copy of WCII and a burned copy WCII, no expansion. How that slipped by anyone I don't know.

Get over it? I don't care where you buy your games, I was just trying to relate some information because you clearly don't understand the disparity between eBay and legitimate retailers. I personally loathe eBay where by contrast I've scored some amazing deals on Amazon and other quality retailers. If you can't understand that, there is no need to continue talking to you.

That was what was so difficult? It's now that hard to get a credit card. Heck, I was getting mailings when I was in high school for credit cards.

It is when you have a bad credit rating....trust me I have tried, so again I can't get one.

Do you have a bank account? Most banks will issue you an ATM card that can be used as a Credit Card. I prefer it to regular credit cards because it's same as cash.

Just a thought.

I think their biggest problems are their trade in values and selling used games as new.

Legendaryscmt

This basically explains it.

Other than that, they're good for finding rarer games or new games that bigger stores don't carry. Thank God for Frys. I usually go there and they're cheaper. But I only go to Gamestop when I can't find something and they have it.

If it has a Mastercard or Visa logo on it, you can use it as a credit card on Amazon.

Went in to Gamestop looking for a PS3 game. They had it for $10 more than Amazon wanted. But I was anxious for it, so I took the empty box up to the cashier. He said they didn't actually have the disk (gosh, wonder where it was?). But he offered me a used copy for "a couple bucks less". So I could get a used copy for only $8 more than Amazon wanted for a new copy.

They've also got used PS2 games, for $10 - $15. That's as much as Amazon sells them for new. In some cases, that's more than Amazon wants for new copies.

I don't hate them, or really have any feelings at all about them. I just don't shop there. If other people enjoy paying $60 for an opened game that you could get (new) for ten bucks less somewhere else, hey...be my guest.
