The Wall gives you the correct answer.
Tell me I'm wrong.
Stop hating and realize the truth.geaux321The truth is that the Jags will not have a top 10 wideout to replace Jimmy Smith for a long time. That truth hurts a lot for me.
my favorite receivers are Galloway, Braylon Edwards, Andre Johnson, Jerricho CotcheryGamer1985
We're not talking favorites. We're talking about who the best is.
Oh, right. Braylon should have been somewhere there. Braylon edwards>Andre Johnson.detroitpistons0
Ahh, something I can actually comment on. Edwards has had one great season, and I'm still not sure about how well Derek Anderson can get the ball to him. I looked at Braylon Edwards as a possible #10, but between he and Marvin Harrison, I have to go with the proven vet.
Yes, I know that contradicts Colston at 2. Colston's more likely to perform better because he has a better QB throwing to him and he's already had 2 excellent seasons, compared to Braylon's one.
When ranking positions, the order goes
1. Quarterback
2. Runningback
3.Wide Receiver
Not:
1.Wide Receiver
2.??? (Not even God knows what Wally will do next. My top guesses are punters and long-snapper)

WRs were the topic on my mind, so I went there first.
Long-snapper is going to be a great edition. Big surprise at the top, stay tuned!
Here's my list of the best receivers RIGHT NOW:
The true measuring stick for WR's across all eras is Yards Per Catch. That said, Bob Hayes was as much of a game changing WR as any of the past 40 years.
Hayes averaged 20.0 YPC for his career(in an era dominated by the run); scored 71 TD's on only 371 receptions; led NFL in '68 with a 20.8 punt return average; led NFL in '69 with 26.7 yards per KO return; was responsible for defenses switching to zone coverages -- as there was no man capable of covering him one-on-one -- and yet he is not in HOF! Anti-Cowboys bias or cuz he disappeared in big games?
Until Hayes is elected to HOF, I refuse to acknowledge Moss as a potential HOF'er or best-in-the-game. He's a lazy route runner and has few, if any, routes in his repertoire other than the go-route and red-zone jump-ball. I don't care what he does for your fantasy team, the reality is this: a big physical CB that can get all up in Moss' grill at LOS and bump him, hard, is capable of taking him out of a game. He'll quit.
Sure, he's got freakish skillz, but -- at the end of the day, Moss is soft. That keeps him out of my top-3.
/end rant
Ngamer wants to know what Andre Johnson has done to warrant a Top 10 spot? Plenty enough
He is a two-time Pro Bowler and led the league in receptions in 2006, despite catching passes from one David Carr (How did Steve Smith do with Carr starting at QB btw?). And then in 2007, Johnson had 851 yards and 8 TDs in just 9 games, and has made a full recovery from his injury. No reason to expect him to play worse, either.
And I thought you were an Andre fan? I seem to remember you having an Andre Johnson sig for a week. Or was that not by choice? :P

Ok that's all nice, but does that warrant him being ranked higher than receivers named Steve Smith, Larry Fitzgerald, or Torry Holt? And your reasoning for ranking Colston #2 is pretty weak..... "Colston's more likely to perform better because he has a better QB throwing to him" :?
And we both know why that happened. ;)
Based on the names Wally has offered...
1. Owens (this isn't homerism - career #'s + SB as an Eagle on resume is reason he's here)
2. Moss (can't argue with his #'s. he'd own allof Rice's records if he worked on craft + was less soft)
3. Smith (one of best, and most complete, under-sized WR's I've ever seen; has no fear.)
4. Wayne (representin' The U. Indy's WR corps is his now - MH's days as a #1 are done.)
5. Chad Johnson (YPC, YAC, deep threat. After all that talk, he's a punk for not sittin out as promised)
6. Edwards (at 25, his entire career is in front of him -- superstardom awaits)
6. Fitzgerald (see Edwards... u can flip-flop these two -- i went alphabetical)
8. Holt (he's slowing down, but still has game. If StL can keep their QB upright...)
9. A Johnson (representin' The U. If texans can ever build a 'complete' offense, he might be a great one)
Colston & Bolden need to get their YPC numbers above those of "possession receiver's" before #1 or elite status can be bestowed upon either, imo. (not that there's anything wrong with possession WRs)
:edit:
I just realised that Edwards wasn't on WM's list. Thats ****'d up. Also agree w/ "no love for Evans?!" He's had a career average of 16.0 YPC with J.P.Losman as his QB!!
His list pwns Ngamer's too.

Burtons list>Wallys. Thats what you get you penguin SOB!Espurs117
Ngamer's list was serious?
If my list can't be taken seriously, than how can Wally's? Colston shouldn't even be in the top 10, atleast not yet. Smith on the other hand has already proven that he can be one of the best, if not the best receiver in football (only triple crown winner since Rice back in 1990).
No, I believe not... You might have mistaken me for the wrong person at this point. Not only that, but even if it was like that today, that comment had no relevance whatsoever to that topic...detroitpistons0
So you're not a Patriots fan anymore? sure....
1. Moss
2. Owens
3. Wayne
4. C. Johnson
5. Smith
6. Edwards
7. Colston
8. Fitzgerald
9. A. Johnson
10. Welker
i am sure i will get a lot of s*** for Welker at the 10 spot, but deal with it. he was one of the keys to the Patriots team in 2008 and was one of the best WR in 2008, at times he seemed wide open, or could be found in a tight spot only to come out with an extra 5 yards from the catch. He was a go to guy for 3rd downs plays. He even at time drew mare attraction then any other WR allowing Moss to be down field on single coverage.

You wanna go for broke? Andre Johnson vs Steve Smith, bet on who has the better 2008?

Welker is one of my favorite WRs, and I heavily considered him for my #10 spot, but I just couldn't put him in front of Marvin.

With all due respect to you both, and Welker... What?!
I'm not hatin on Welker or taking anything away from his 112 catches, his value to that team, ability to keep drives alive, etc etc etc. But, c'mon -- a 10.5 YPC won't qualify him (or anyone else) to sniff the top-15 list. You may not get the 100 catches, but you can get the 10.5 YPC from a TE or 3rd-down RB.
Welker may be the best possession WR in the game (debatable), but that does not equate to top-10.

Sure and while we're at it, what should we put at stake? 360 gamertags?

How about another sig bet? This time loser keeps the sig until the 2009 Draft?
And since we're going double: loser puts the opposite player (Smith for me, Andre for you) AND Justin Timberlake in their sig:

Deal? (Don't puss out this time)
I have a better idea: Put Richard Simmons in the picture below in yoru sig. cut out the text, though, which, if you are wondering, does not apply to this thread (yet ;))
Put in Richard Simmons!!!!!!!11
Or better yet, Richard Simmons on one side and Justin Timberlake on the other and sandwich Steve Smith/Andre Johnson...
That list was actually good until you put Welker on there, that's just being a homer right there. Welker is a good receiver, no doubt, but I would never want the guy as my #1 receiver. How productive was Welker on the Dolphins? Not nearly as good as when he had Moss, one of the bests in the game, and Brady, the best QB in the game, on his team. Moss makes him better and so does Brady. Also. he looks like a rat and he's one of the most boring players I've ever seen in an interview.1. Moss

Deal, but if an injury occurs to either Smith or Johnson, deal is off.
Ngamer05
Here's the criteria: 13 games minimum (any less by either and the bet is off). Receivers will be measured by catches per game, yards per game, total TDs, YAC, and drops (though we'll have to find a reputable site that keeps track of drops, because I'm fairly certain the NFL doesn't). For each category that our WR is better in than the other, they'll get a point. Most points out of 5 wins.
Sound good?
i agree withy wally, andre johnson will have a better year......besides steve smith has to play bucs twice a year.....#1 best pass D.
can i get in on the bet to?
Ryder004
How would that happen?
Given the size differential (5'9", 185 vs 6'3", 220) between these two, Andre should be able to win the YAC battle. At least you'd think...
Sticking my nose where it doesn't belong, but what about receptions of 20+ yards, 40+ yards, and for 1st-downs?
Smith won some of these battles vs Andre in 2007 with a 55 yr old AND a rookie FA QB!
