3DS Tops Wii Graphics??

Is this even possible??? I friend of mine who owns a Wii and played with my 3ds says that 3ds has better graphics! is this True??

Hmmm...Well as far as I know, the 3DS can do some stuff that the Wii can't. Like better online for instance. It can also preform some graphical effects that the Wii can't, such as shaders.

The 3DS can do some things that the Wii can't, like normal shaders (the Wii needed to have custom shaders, like those seen in SMG 1 + 2). It can't pump out the same amount of polygons though, which really hinders it.

I do not know about from a technical perspective but after playing a ton of Mario Kart 7 and then going back to Mario Kart Wii I thought it looked like garbage. My first thought was "Can the 3DS produce better graphics than the Wii?" Then again Super Mario 3D Land does not look anywhere near as good as Super Mario Galaxy 2 so probably not.

I'd be surprised, given that so many 3ds games look sub-gamecube. It may be that there's more power yet to be unlocked and fully utilised, but so far, I would say no.

Here's part of an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto about this subject:

IGN AU: The 3DS' power seems to exceed that of the Wii in some ways graphically, and it also incorporates the gyroscopes and the motion control. In that way, it's almost like having a Wii in your hand. From a business standpoint, do you see it as a threat, or do you see it causing a tapering off of Wii sales inadvertently, by introducing this new handheld?

Shigeru Miyamoto: We're not really worried about it, and primarily it's because the types of things, the types of play that you can do on a portable device is pretty different from the types of things you're able to do on a home console, and so it doesn't really concern us. I guess from a graphical standpoint it is true that the shaders that we've implemented into the Nintendo 3DS hardware, from a certain perspective, it can appear as if the graphics are stronger, but they're really a little bit more in balance I think.IGN Interview

Some 3DS games are easily comparable to their console counterparts graphically, even though the system doesn't truly have as much power.

Graphically, the 3DS is better. But when it comes to power, the Wii is better.

hey i seen some 3ds vs wii videos on utube and all i have to say is 3ds beats wii HANDS DOWN! I was never expecting a powerfull portable from nintento but 3ds simply IS! Look at Street Fighter comparison to xbox360 version they are IDENTICAL!!! I cant believe that it can do 360 graphics!!

I can't speak for MP 2, but some comparisons i've seen would seem to indicate despite RE 4 certainly doing some things better such as lighting, RE: Revelations is the more graphically pleasing gameSkinnyJeans1995

the lighting effects in Mario 3D land look better than anything in Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart 7 looks better than Mario Kart Wii and Resident Evil Revelations looks better than anything else on the Wii. So Im gonna say yes, the graphics do look better.hihater

i disagree... id love to replace my 60" hdtv with a 60" glassesless 3d screen in a second.

KB and Yoshi, though from a few threads I've been in with them come off as Nintendo fanboys. I assume you played the Rayman Origins 3DS demo? Either one or both of them were ignorantly writing off how bad the 3DS version is in comparison to all the other versions, including the Vita version, stating the 3DS version is superior to the Vita version. the Wii version of Mario looks x10 better than the crappy 3ds version!!! Now im convinced Im NOT buying Mario 3D! It's SHORT poorly made and the Graphics SUCK! I'll stick with RE and Street Fighter 3D wich look almost like a ps3 version games.
