hmm, i think if they make a new zelda game and they mess up i guess the wii will be known as "The system that messed up zelda"fudg__er
Non sense. It's not like a "traditional" Zelda can't be done on Wii. But it shouldn't.

do u like to toot flutes?
I think atleast every aspect of this game needs to be looked at, and overhauled.
I hope the next Zelda game is radically different in terms of formula, Miyamoto should revisit his original vision, then make a new Zelda game specifically in-mind for the Wii, a Zelda game that doesn't remind you or me of a Zelda ever created before.
Anyway, TP was boring and way too traditional, I want something new. No Zelda game should be routine.
The sad thing was that, besides TP, I can go back and replay any of the past Zelda games and still feel as if it was fresh. And I have replayed all the Zelda games so many times, you would think it would have gotten boring. I think a fleshed out gameplay with a more emphasis on characters, stories, added with more NPCs that you care about and a town that looks like it would actually exist would be awesome. The total overhaul is not really needed, as adding more things that serve importance.
Try overhauling the story. Not Zelda needs saving from Ganon.
Make Towns large with many things to do. Tons of stores that you actually have to buy things from. Houses where you can interact with people. Things to do in town, maybe have a day system where on mondays there are circuses, sundays fishing day where the winner of the day gets a prize. Have the towns feel alive and interactive. Similar to Animal Crossing, utilize WiiConnect.(This was mentioned by someone, but I can't remember there name.)
Flesh out the weapon system. Like said, you get a sligshot and after you get the bow it is useless.
Dungeons should be enhanced, and more challenging. Give me a purpose to go in there and defeat the boss.
Have people living in Hyrule field that act like Hermits.
Make enemies tougher.
As of right now the combat system is in my opinion almost perfect. MAybe add more sword fighting strategy to battles and what not to make fights more challenging. I would enjoy a fighting system that sometimes allows me to fight 2-3, to even 4 guys at teh same time. Maybe thrusting the sword foward stabs one guy and turning the wiimote so the controller is pointing away from the tv stabs the guy behind you, would make it a lot more fluid and realistic.
Have enemies be smart. Let them encircle you when there is a group and all charge at once. Or have them try to force you out of a tunnel where you have the advantage into a larger area where they all can get you.
Like I said. The game doesn't need a total overhaul, just refining things and making them mroe challenging and different. I don't want first person, or futuristic. I want things like I have mentioned.

I'm in first year of qualification in flute, in college, here in Rio de Janeiro, but next month I'm moving to Paris to study musicology. At least I hope everything will be fine and I'm accepted there.
I agree wholeheartedly with everything you said. Those are all improvements that could be made without the game losing its Zelda feel. I think people who are calling for a complete overhaul in every way don't realize how attached many people are to the Zelda formula. If they make a game that no longer feels like Zelda, they may as well create a new IP instead. The sad thing was that, besides TP, I can go back and replay any of the past Zelda games and still feel as if it was fresh. Very much agreed.
Another thing that could possibly be helpful is the having to use a item more than once or twice. Just because you got a item/wpn in a certain dungeon, doesn't mean it should be confined to just that dungeon. Make those iron boots you got in the 3rd dungeon be part of the 4th & 7th dungeon also, not just the 3rd dungeon or just use it for one room in another dungeon and there.
Maybe even a the bility to play as other character might be a good change. Like Russel and his team in TP. Maybe not make them a huge part, but give that liberty and possibly even use them to pass certain dungeons and stuff.
One thing that I would definetly want to see would be the use of the Ocarina again. It might not be the greatest thing, but you can make it have more of a purpose other than solving certain puzzles or transportatrion. Maybe they could add it that by playing certain tunes you can set off magic attacks like Din's Fire and such. Maybe even use it to beat a boss. like play a melody to make it go to sleep so you can attack it before it wakes up again.
Another thing that might make things interesting might be that of a rival of sorts. Sorta like Dark Link from OoT. He'll be out to get you and might pop up when unexpected. He'll try and foil your plans on saving hyruls like in TP's case steal the mirror pieces and such if you get defeated.
One thing thing that probably would be nice would be alternate story. like if you rival were to get the all the (insert pieces gathering here) would mean that he could possibly get a (insert some type of power here) changing everything from maybe even him becominhg the last boss instead of the intended one.
That might give the Zelda series a bit of a new twist if you ask me.
I agree with all of this stuff. I, like many thousands of people, am quite the zelda loyalist, and to be honest, I would be perfectly content playing the same Zelda formula a thousand times, but small refinements that do not make any huge changes to the formula can add a new layer of depth to the loyalists and something exciting for the more casual Zelda players. I think that Nintendo will do a great job with this new one, Miyamoto would not let anybody take his precious creation too far off, so I would be willing to bet that we will see a nicely refined, original, epic LoZ in a couple years!! :) Im excited already!!The sad thing was that, besides TP, I can go back and replay any of the past Zelda games and still feel as if it was fresh. And I have replayed all the Zelda games so many times, you would think it would have gotten boring. ...virtual boy...N64 expansion pack...that's about it i guess.
Oh and I forgot the biggest flaw of Zelda games to date.
DIFFICULTY
seriously they should add a difficulty setting so normal for casual players and like a super hard one for the more skilled players that want something uber challenging like Wind Waker was.
It is a big risk but Nintendo have made changes to their franchises like Mario who has changed from Mario Bros 3 to Super Mario World to Super Mario 64 and now they are doing it with Mario Galaxy.
Zelda games does need to recreate itself and sell like it use to. The problem was they found perfection with OOT. Will fans like this or will it be a big risk. This is huge with a franchise like Zelda. It's a great series but it does need to change like Resident Evil and Mario have done through the years. If Zelda games are gonna be better they need change and it is a big risk but I think Nintendo need to do something new for the Zelda series and they normally do manage it in the end. If it goes wrong Zelda might fade away in the future and it's a big series but they did manage it with it with a LTTP and OOT. I think it's time to try and recreate itself.
I definitely agree with the article, while TP is one of my favourite games it still showed Zelda needs to change abit to stay fresh. It doesn't need to be a big overhaul IMO, just enough so you don't have a good idea of how to complete the puzzles as soon as you see them; because it's obvious when you walk into a room and see some un-lit torches on the walls or a switch on the floor etc. My favourite puzzles in Zelda games are usually the ones that use the new items in fresh, interesting ways so I'd like to see more puzzles like these; but obviously they shouldn't abandon all the classic Zelda puzzle mechanics so it wouldn't be an easy task to balance old with new.
The sad thing was that, besides TP, I can go back and replay any of the past Zelda games and still feel as if it was fresh. What was wrong with the n64 expansion pack? It was used quite a bit. Without it Perfect Dark sucked, and you couldn't play great games like Majora's Mask and Donkey Kong 64. It also allowed many games to be played with higher resolutions and better AI. Now the N64DD was a failure.
Also I don't have a problem with how Zelda is now. Although I wish they would stop basing it on OOT. I'm tired of gorons and zorras. Create some new species. Those mining guys from Oracle of Seasons were cool, do something like that.

well, with the N64 expansion pack, i more meant how successfull was it? by the time the expansion pack came out, the price of the N64 had dropped to the point that the expansion pack costed the same as the N64 itself. and not enough games utilized it enough to make people like me rush off and buy it. i never got to play majora's mask until the gamecube bonus disk...
and with zelda, i agree about the gorons and zorras. the entire gaming experience is riddled with deja-vu moments. like having to run off and find the missing zorra prince. i felt too many moments mimicked exactly whet took place in ocarina of time. what i'd like to see is a gaming adventure similar to zelda, but not zelda. mabye an illusion of gaia sequal or something like that?
well ive seen this video that is insane it shows zelda in a whole different way but im not sure if is fake or not but if this is really going to be the new zelda it looks like it is going to be crazy in a good way but also in a bad way
this is the link to the video
http://youtube.com/watch?v=8OiLX9Vx9wggrim653
i'd love to see something like that happen in the next zelda game. weather the video is a joke or not, what was in there actually looked really cool, like the water temple for example. and i'd prefer to ride a motorbike than that stupid horse again...

I agree completely. I've been playing Zelda since it began and while I still like the games, they no longer hold the same level of fun and excitement they used to. Now they feel like 'just another Zelda game." As the article says, it just starts to feel stale and repetitive even in SPITE of the fact they are still great games. They haven't even bothered to create new characters or dungeons in like 7 years. They just reuse already created characters and the typical forrest/fire/ice dungeon scheme.
I look forward to a change in Zelda. They should make a more RPG style Zelda game. Or keep the gameplay mostly the same but set it in a totally different setting. Maybe not make zelda a person that needs rescuing. Make Zelda like the Crystals of FF games...sometimes they are real items and sometimes they are simply a tool or legend. It doesn't always have to be a girl or even a person. Or get rid of Ganon...mayby make Ganon the new Cid, sometimes good, sometimes bad, sometimes a minor character. Hell, they could have different playable characters, or make them more like oblivion which are more action-style RPGs. There is a lot they could do to change the games without going overboard.
But they did make one serious error in the article. They said people revolted against Wind Waker because they tried to change the forumla? Not true. People revolted because Nintendo showed that CGI video of Link fighting Ganon and then released the cartoony Wind Waker. While i really liked the game it was WAY too easy (you had to go out of your way to even come close to dying) and nobody like pointless fetch quests. But I admit I liked the sailing aspect.
It is a big risk but Nintendo have made changes to their franchises like Mario who has changed from Mario Bros 3 to Super Mario World to Super Mario 64 and now they are doing it with Mario Galaxy.chocolate1325
yeh, zelda needs to do something like that again, the jump from 2d to 3d for both mario and zelda was huge.
Drastic changes Ninty has made:
All of those were great, but criticized for their new style and gameplay. Is it really unexpected that Nintendo wouldn't want to change?
That said, i hope that the next Zelda game does change, just don't make it more RPGish.

Yes I have. TP tries hard to have everything Rosencrantz mentioned, with its "deeper" story and more "complex" fighting system. Nintendo even claimed TP surpasses Ocarina of Time in every aspect. Yet, it doesn't seem to be enough for you...

Wintry_Flutist
That's exactly what Nintendo tried to do in TP.
Have you played TP? The game is exactly does everything he said needs to be changed. Its easy, the dungeons felt rehashed, useless weapons like the slingshot, no real weapon upgrades, lame AI, etc.
Yes I have. TP tries hard to have everything Rosencrantz mentioned, with its "deeper" story and more "complex" fighting system. Nintendo even claimed TP surpasses Ocarina of Time in every aspect. Yet, it doesn't seem to be enough for you...
To me Nintendo tried to do the things but failed greatly. The story was so jumbled and messed up when they through Ganon and Zelda in there. The towns were larger, but emptiness filled the streets and the people. The weapon system was not fleshed out as they added 3-4 new weapons that were really only used a few times. Dungeons were not challenging, they followed the same formula as others. The game was easy, almost on par with Wind Waker.
Don't get me wrong. I do agree with you on how TP was meant to do all that stuff listed, I just think Nintendo rushed the project and it ended up being OoT with better graphics and better controls.
