well this would be the 4th year of nintendo wii being available, and all the developers are losing faith in the wii and being lazy not wanting to prodcue a game for it because of the motioncontrols. At the moment First person shooters dominate the game industry because of huge deman and their popularity, and gamers know that wii is not the place to go for them, so sales are already declining and nintendo are resorting to the good Ol' franchises like zelda thank god i loved all of nintendos old games. but ive heard lots of opinions of nintendo being un appealing, to the current market.

So could this be the year that WII start to plunder, I bloody hope not i love wii :) but even if it does happen i hope nintendo bring out a even better console with no remote. The only thing that controls it is you, because i praise nintendo for daring to be different and i stick by them all the way in hope that they eventaully disintigrate microsoft and sony lol

We've got the classic controller you know. So except for graphics the Wii in the same as the other two consoles. In some ways better. The big problem is that not enough developers want to make hardcore games for the wii due to its market: kids. I also think that the don't realize that they could dev for the classic controller. Maybe the cc pro will turn things around.

Maybe thats why Nintendo seems to be pushing to get three big names out this year. Honestly hope to see Mario and Metroid but I will wait for Zelda. Its my favorite but if they start hurrying games to sell, that will be their true downfall.

Yeah as he says some really big games are coming out this year. BTW Zelda Wii has been in development longer than any other Zelda to date, so I don't think you need to worry about it being rushed.

Wii became successful with minimum third party support. Most hardware sellers, if not all, came from Nintendo. I do not think having less third party support will affect it.

LegatoSkyheart

It has very little to do with teh HD and everything to do with Nintendo being an incredibly strong software developer. Third parties, Western ones in particular, don't want to compete against Nintendo's software.

If Sega decided to release the Dreamcast 2, with 56 cores running at 10 Ghz, 25 Gigs of RAM, 15 Terabytes of internal storage and the ability to display at 3240p, developers wouldn't support the platform, because they got used to Sony and Microsoft providing platforms with much less first party games (that doesn't mean they are bad first party games, just very scarce, and not true system sellers). When your software sells the platforms, you call the shots, and Western developers got used to calling the shots. Remember the Dreamcast... Third parties saw an opportunity to bring Sega down to their level and they did everything they possibly could to achieve this goal. Remember the Gamecube, a much more powerful machine than the PS2, but third parties refused to support it and, before the Wii launch, "analysts" were already talking about Nintendo becoming a third party developer for Sony and Microsoft platforms. "Analysts", you should know, are nothing but the voice of "the industry", and "the industry" are third party developers (Western ones in particular), or at least they used to be, before the Wii started disrupting the industry.

That will never happen. If third parties can find a way to avoid supporting a Nintendo platform, they will. The only way for third parties to support a Nintendo platform would be for said platform to become a full-blown monopoly. Get used to this idea.

I'm hoping that if games like Monster Hunter 3, TvC, Red Steel 2, and Epic Mickey sell good developers will open up their eyes and realize that Wii owners demand quality, not just quantity. Monster Hunter 3 has already had a great start in Japan, and TvC had a very respectable opening week of 100,000. This is not just the future of the Wii but it's successor.

so far, weve seen TVC and no more heroes 2 released in this very early year. we still have sin and punishment 2, metroid other m, fragile dreams, zelda, smg2, monster hunter 3, epic mickey, and red steel 2 coming out that seem promising (then theres monado and and dqx which i dont remember when they are supposed to be released). i cant say i was interested in nearly that many wii games at the beginning of last year. it makes me wonder if all of this talk of lessened wii support is mostly from developers that were hoping for easy profits rather than quality games. still, i guess if i were looking for any kind of warning, id point to fragile dreams and mh3 which are localizations and not signs of recent developer support. the rest of the list is still promising.

I don't think so, the Wii will be just fine.

There's tons of stuff that's coming out to cover every genre out there, so I don't see a problem.

NMH2 (which will bomb)

RS2 (probably sell close toa mil if not reach that)

Endless Ocean 2 (probably make a profit at least)

Monster Hunter 3 (probably sell close to a mil if not hit that)

Fragile (although beautiful, I could see this game failing. Especially if not advertised)

Galaxy 2 (it's Mario)

Other M (close to a mil if not hitting it, or above)

Epic Mickey (should do fairly well)

Sonic 4 (should do fairly well)

DQX (no idea about this series, but fairly well if it comes out this year)

Sin n Punishment 2 (should do fairly well)

I really don't see the Wii slipping in sales at all. It should turn a profit all year long. Besides, if Zelda comes out (which I doubt it will this year)... there's more of a reason to buy software and a system.

My take is, the Wii already sold more than Nintendo probably expected, so I figure they're pretty satisfied right now. All they need to do is make more games from their core franchises (Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid Other M, the next Zelda, etc.) and make a bunch of mini-games for casuals or kids (Wii Sport Resorts, Mario & Sonic Olympic games, etc.) and the Wii will be fine. Honestly there's nothing different about it, really. But unlike the Gamecube or the N64, Nintendo isn't dead last. Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympics sold over 5 million compared to Mass Effect 2 or Bayonetta which sold 3 million between them. Just something to think about.

DVD9 is the exact same thing as Double Layered. The 360 uses the same discs as Brawl or the Metroid Prime Trilogy and, in fact, both Brawl and the Metroid Trilogy use up more space (7.8, more or less) than your average 360 game (which are usually 6.5 GB of data or less).

Blu Rays can hold 25 GB, while Double Layered Blu Rays contain 50 GB of data. Right now, only Metal Gear Solid 4 uses a Double Layered Blu Ray.

lol with Mario, a Japanese developed Metriod and Zelda all coming out this year, with NSMB Wii still readily available, yeah Nintendo's in a real bind this year. Nintendo has always been a company that can support a console on thier own, this year they aren't in a position of trouble, they are in a position to absolutely dominate. They have some of these most big market franchises all on tap, and then they also have better 3rd party support this year. Nintendo is on the exact opposite end of the spectrum from a downfall. With the lineup they have, thier going to be a freight train this year.

The news about third-parties have been bad early this year, but the future looks very bright. If Nintendo manages to release Zelda Wii this year then I will have no complaints about this year whatsoever.

From the way the year has started off and looking ahead to the games coming out this year for the Wii, I would hardly say it's in touble. 2010 is looking to top the incredible 2007 in gaming on all consoles, and Wii has, imo, the best lineup. With any luck, console Mario, Metroid, and Zelda games will all be released this year, and that alone is insane.

The Wii will not slip in sales. Look at fall of 2008. That had to be the worst lineup in a long time for any company and the Wii still sold more. Tatsunoko vs Capcom and No More Heroes 2 are already out and have scored pretty well. Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid Prime other M and Zelda are supposed to come out this year plus Tales of Graces might hit. Then you have Sin and Punishment 2 as well as NBA Jam and Red Steel 2.

Hopefully all of these games turn out great. The lineup in 2010 for Wii is better than 08 and 09 combined. If they would throw in F-Zero or Pilotwings my head would spin out of control.

what year wasnt a downfall for wii, when wii owners where in a doubt between what games is better to buy and they came few weeks apart??? we are constantly literally here begging for something to be released, my brother has a 360 (im not starting a console war, its just a comparison) and every couple of weeks there are some great tittles (from 8.0-9.5 scores) that you just cant decide which one to buy, now its dantes inferno, bioshock, mass effect 2, darks sider bayoneta etc. Just too sad for us wii users, after this i honestly doubt ill be getting the next nintendo console, UNLESS they are shoulder to shoulder with ps3,360 hardare power vise and have 80-90 3rd party tittles that the ps3 and 360 share...Thats just somthing that nintendo need to do! needed to do long time ago...

There's no doubt Nintendo is off to a slow start, but I wouldn't go as far as saying it's their 'downfall'. A lot of big games are coming out this year and I think it will keep Nintendo afoat in the market.

i dont know what rock you are under but wii has lots of development

red steel 2 ubisoft , nmh 2 grinder sonic 4 . etc

plus games like mario galaxy 2 zelda metroid other m cod mw 1 cod 5 quantum of solace 007 wwe 2010 2011 09 bully . .the yrs just started. how can we say whats coming if we hARDLY KNOW seriously and no wii will not quit , selling ,

its selling in sports stores etc etc,, support is the same just becausea few lazy developers quit their jobs ,, dont change the fact that wii will continue to thrive

8youk now why these developer gave up ,,or lost faith in wii-because they rush their garbage out the door or dont release any period ,its not graphics or online play, its the quality of the gam play ,

capcom be disaponted in redc because thats not what re fans want they want a true resident evil , not an onrails game

ubisoft runs there mouth talkin about disappointing stuff , well youknow what, besides red steel and driver they done next to nil in terms of quality im not talki about quick and fun games like dogs 2 gt pro series etc but more in depth games lik the ones ive mention wheres our rainbow six ,

seriously saints row ! or gta games will sell if they arent rushed

It also has a lot to do with how all the casuals have basically flocked to the Wii, buy the console, play Wii sports for a while, and maybe one other game before leaving it alone to gather dust until the next console comes along. This works fine and dandy for Nintendo's business model for the Wii, since they'd been making profit from day one on the system. This doesn't work so good for third parties that are exploring their options for making games across the different consoles. And it becomes pretty hard to get noticed on a store shelf in the Wii section now, without all those degrading "Petz/Kidz" craptastic games that barely even qualify as such flooding the shelves for clueless parents to buy their kids. On the other hand, the Wii is rather starved for RAM compared to the other consoles this generation, as well as having a weaker PowerPC chip (partially due to having direct compatibility for the GameCube library). All three consoles are (indirectly) based on the same underlying PowerPC architecture, but each use it quite radically different. And it's no secret that the Wii is the weakest of the three. this means that the Wii simply cannot handle as many things going on at once... it cannot handle as thorough a physics model, or as many complex AI entities, while also having to compensate for a significantly larger input sample size from each active player (given all the motion sensing, button presses, and combination of accessories that a Wii user can have for just a single controller), means that just to process YOUR controls, it's already having to deal with a lot more data than it likely would for an equivalent game on the 360, or even ps3. And probably more once you figure in games that support four players at once.

I don't think the Wii is ever going to have a "downfall", it's too succesful.... [QUOTE="TheColbert"]This year is going to be the year of the Wii. Zelda, Galaxy 2, Metroid OtherM, Monster Hunter 3, Red Steel 2, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, No More Heroes 2 are games coming out this year to name a few.

Do ya really think it's got the best lineup? It's the best year for Wii, surely, with loads of good games, but the 360 has been getting constant good games for years, it seems Wii people get a little carried away???

I agree, with what I've seen in games coming out this year for the Wii, it looks pretty promising! Especially with the new Zelda game supposedly coming out on the Wii this year.

I'll put it this way, Nintendo's 2010 line up has some serious competition that is not available for the Wii. For it is a bit strange to release (if they are really) 3 of their top franchises this year alone, to me that says somthing about The Wii struggling a bit after the quarter loss of devs. Yes the Wii may have lost some shovelware, but it can alsomean any potential good games.

I mean for instance, (A good game by the way) after No More Heroes 2 was released, From what I understood, Suda 51 stated that he would be interested bringing the franchise to other consoles, that alone is a smack to the face to Nintendo. This is also bad because the Original Game is coming out for the PS3 and 360, if there are any good sales, then definetly a port of NMH2 will come outa and (the worst case scenario if it happens) Suda 51 may develope NMH3 for the PS3 and 360 and leave the Wii out.

We just have to see and find out how the Wii's sales turn out for this year, no one really knows until those numbers come out to determine the final answer, but if I had to give out a guess right now, I'd say that Nintendo may suffer this year unless of course Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid Other M and the new Zelda game come out and are selling incredibly good, but as I said above, they are in for some serious competition.

If Nintendo can get Other M, SMG2, and the new zelda out this year, they can keep the Wii afloat.

Meh, the Wii will be in better than fine shape once the year is over with, and I don't see how this can be argued against. If the Wii was ever going to experience a true "downfall," it would have happened last year. And while the Wii did take a slip and some heat in 2009, look at all of what it took to get things going again: basically, a 2D Mario game, a couple of Wii series sequels, and a mostly insignificant price drop. At this point, the only thing that will be the demise of the Wii will be whenever Nintendo decides to pull the development plug on the thing, whether that be in lieu to the next console or just simply not trying anymore.

Anyone that has played attention to the Wii would know that it's a system that doesn't play the game by conventional rules. The fact that it has become as successful as it has without third party support of system-selling impact, that big first person shooter usually needed to move millions of systems, or some testosterone-driven IP to attract the "standard" 18-35 year old males out there suggests one thing: it doesn't need them. Nintendo's best move has been to ignoring what most considered to be the only way to go in this industry and aim for making progress in its own way. As long as Nintendo continues to play the game by its own rules, and not those made by others, it'll continue to be just fine, and that certainly includes the Wii's fate as well.

Looking just at this year, the Wii's first quarter will definitely be boosted on the simple idea that New Super Mario Bros. Wii will continue to move software and hardware units, so Nintendo can definitely wait before needing the likes of Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid: Other M, and possibly Zelda Wii to carry the load, which is what they probably will do once they're released. Factor in this, a few other noteworthy games, and the fact that we haven't even heard what Nintendo has in store for the latter half of the year, and the Wii definitely isn't going anywhere this year.

Long story short, no worries... well, unless you're one of those people just waiting for the Wii's run to end. I hear that there are a lot of those these days... :P

We've got the classic controller you know. So except for graphics the Wii in the same as the other two consoles. In some ways better. The big problem is that not enough developers want to make hardcore games for the wii due to its market: kids. I also think that the don't realize that they could dev for the classic controller. Maybe the cc pro will turn things around.

wes008

Genesis and PS1 developers could have developed for the six button and dualshock (respectively) in mind, but they rarely did. Developers have always been paranoid about developing for accessory controllers. They know not everyone will own it in addition to the console itself, and they don't want to divide the market more than necessary.

There are a lot of good games coming out but I don't know if it would keep the Wii floating. Also, hearing about devs leaving the Wii for the iPhone and HD consoles isn't gonna help.

Suda51 was misunderstood. Later he clarified that NMH3 would be released on the Wii's successor console, and not on the competition. He said in the future he hoped to make an exclusive series on each of the consoles. NMH being ported (only in Japan) was Ubisoft, not Suda51.

The competition of the games coming out on the other two consoles cannot compare to Nintendo's 1st party lineup. If that were the case 3rd party dev wouldn't have an issue developing for Nintendo. But they don't, because they do not like the 1st party competition, because it forces them to work harder than they are willing too.
