I've Googled it a bit and found conflicting answers. Signs point to no, but I'm just curious.

I wouldn't mind a form of achievements, but nothing that gives you "points", and nothing like "get a kill, ACHIEVEMENT!".
More like "Collected all Skulluta's", "Completed game on Normal, Hard, etc", "Collected all heart pieces", "Get Gold on every track", etc, ACTUAL things that you achieve, not petty, random little things which are the majority of 360's achievments (haven't dabbled with PS3 trophies.)
Biggest idea here is no points or anything, just recognition for doing it.
It doesn't need achievements, it print's 3D money!F0urTwenty
Okay, this is off topic, but where does this meme come frome? Apparently it's from a meme that says the DS prints money, but I can't find the origin. Supposedly, it was from a video called the Decline of Video Gaming 2, but I watched it and didn't hear that anywhere.
Meh, I guess you probably wouldn't know either. :/

Perhaps I'm reading too deep into this. XD

...it's just like saying "It's selling REALLY well!"
[QUOTE="Pixel-Perfect"]I still think it's weird. It's basically this, DS made Nintendo a HUGE amount of money, more than any company has ever made off a console or handheld before. Money is made by been printed. So people started saying that the DS was practically printing money for Nintendo. The 3DS sold so many units in Japan already that Nintendo have chosen to call back some of the ones that where suppose to be going to the rest of the world to help try to cover the demand, because of this, and been to lazy to come up with anything new, people are now saying the 3DS prints it's own money, but they say 3D money because it's the 3DS....it's just like saying "It's selling REALLY well!"

Makes no difference to me whether they add them or not. Gone are the days of performing extreme tasks just to unlock an Achievement, especially when said task involves mindless grinding.
Which is ridiculous, because they already have things that are effectively achievements in their own games. I mean, the Metroid Prime Collection has a ton of earned objectives that are exactly the same as achievements, and are even colour-coded like PS3 trophies. New Super Mario Bros has a global achievement for beating the game without engaging a tutorial video, where your save file sparkles.Nintendo said they detract from the experience.
LaytonsCat
yeah as someone stated they sometimes take away from the experience, only for the majority of crazy achievment whores though,
imo i think it give a game good replay value, i like going through on a seconde playthrough and maxing out all stats or finding all items etc but i usually ignore them most the time
Nope, according to nintendo, we don't want themdarkspineslayer
And they're right.
Achievements are what lazy developers put into their games when the real content is a bit lacking and not so rewarding.
Gamers want achievments to get a bit more content and a more rewarding experience as they generally bought lazy developers games.
If you play a really good game that experience is enough on its own, there's just no need for any "achievements".
Usually there's no good reason for having them either, it's just some arbitrary conditions that have to be met, and then you've been a good dog and can get a reward.
Pretty sad really that some people find that so important.
Anyway, I doubt that the 3DS have achievements, but perhaps some games do?

I prefer game specific achievements. That way only games that benefit from achievements have them.
The problem with the 360 system is that games are forced to have achievements so the majority of games are lazy and give you an achievement when you complete a level. That should not be an achievement, achievements should be extras like kill a boss in 5 minutes with only a certain weapon, and achievements are far more rewarding if you get an unlockable like an extra path or level. not an e-peen score to show off to your friends that you have played more games than them.

This. We don't want them because Nintendo says we don't. Achievements are just a façade to a bad online system. If you add achievements, then you ruin Nintendo's otherwise outstanding online system. Nintendo knows we don't need our online system to stoop to the level of the online systems of the 360 and PS3, and will take steps to ensure that it never happens because they know what we really want.
Btw, if you actually play a 360 or PS3 to find out for yourself, then ur a biased, and GTFO.

This response is so much drivel. Achievements can do a number of things- I can look at an achievement and get the date I accomplished some impressive feat(ex: 40+ hit freeflow combo + using all combo moves in a single combo are two achievements I earned at the same time in Batman: AA). Are they useless? I suppose so, in the sense that they provide you with nothing physical(game add ons or ds points) but they have value in reminding you of the highpoints of your gaming experience. I for one like to make a point of earning at least one achievement on the day I buy a game so I have a permanent record of what day I got the game. Sometimes I even like to look through my achievements just to see how long the gap is between them. I do also support the idea of Achievements without Gamerscore. Just make sure they are date stamped.
I kinda wish it did have achievements. I think Nintendo could work a lot of interesting ones into their games. But oh well. I think all 3DS owners have their own unique online profile now though, btw. So, it could have been doable maybe?

New Super Mario Bros has a global achievement for beating the game without engaging a tutorial video, where your save file sparkles. Plenty of games on the Wii and DS have achievements. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers has Xbox 360 styled achievements but they call them trophies. Theres about 200 of them. Super Smash Bros: Brawl has like 200 achievements as well, and so does Wii Fit. Monster Hunter: Tri has about 20 trohpies you can earn, Wii Sports and Wii Sports: Resort have an achievement system too. Nintendo may not know it but they've already endorsed the achievement system, they just haven't done it out of game.Thats because youve never owned a 360. Or a PS3, i'd like to see some type of trophy system, nothing with points, but something like the PS3 has. Its true. Anyone who owns a 360 or PS3 knows that achievements are a good thing. Way better than the PSP and everything." Just shut up becauseyou KNOW that when Nintendo finally steps up with an achievement system you're gonna be bragging about how its waaay better than the other systems. Achievements can be fun but they are far from needed, with a rich game experience you will not miss them or even think about them.
The point of achievments are to make you think that you got a lot of play time for your money, but often the achievements hunting is done on overtime, playing the same thing over and over.
Basically it's a cheap way for developers to fool you that there's more to the game than there really is.

Achievements also serve as a record of your gaming, of sorts. I like looking back on all the crazy stuff I've done, and I frequently compare achievements in various games to my friends to see what they've earned, or how far they've made it in the game, what difficulty they played it on, etc.
And for those people who don't like achievements, they can be ignored. But not including them at all is silly, when they're obviously here to stay. I mean, we've got comprehensive achievement systems in place on the 360, PS3, Steam, World of Warcraft, and iOS (Game Center). I think Steam's implementation is the best, because it doesn't assign points of any kind to the achievements or trophy count.
You can also poke through and use achievements to see how much of a game the entire audience played, or what things a lot of people went out of their way to complete. I love that sort of record-keeping more than the lure of earning the achievements themselves.

I hope you realized I was joking.Nope, according to nintendo, we don't want themdarkspineslayerI don't like achievements. I've had a 360 since near launch, and a ps3 for two years--never once have I bothered looking at that nonsense. The goal is always about beating the games. I'd much rather have more well thought out game design. Acheivements give the impression of extending the life of a game, which is just total bs. "Get five head shots while using X weapon." Lame.
