The reason why some people hate it is because of the tweaks that totally screwed over the advanced techniques of the game. Brawl is a lot more newbie friendly than Melee, making it not as good for competitive play. But I'm not a competitive player, so Brawl is fine for me.ChojutoAll they did was remove the cheap glitches like Wave-dashing. Maybe that's why some people don't like it, they cant own their non-glitching friends as easily anymore.
I'm happy they removed the cheap techniques and glitches.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNxnd0b-cCU

I hate it mainly for how shallow and simplistic it is; I like my fighting games to consist of complex special moves and the like. Then again, perhaps this is unfair, since Smash Bros was never a fighting game, just a party game that thought it was a fighting game. Oh, and the fanbase. Ugh.
IMO:
Street Fighter series > King of Fighters series > Guilty Gear XX series > Rival Schools/Project Justice > Bushido Blade > Dead or Alive series > Tekken series > Soul Calibur series > Soul Blade > Arcana Heart >>>>> Shaq-Fu > Smash > Rise of the Robots.
Hey, at least it's better than RotR.

Your profile name is starting to become a nightmare to me, ever since I see you trolling games all day.[QUOTE="Pices"]Your profile name is starting to become a nightmare to me, ever since I see you trolling games all day.Zweihand
"Trolling"? I'm merely providing my input, just like the people in this thread who love casual party games. :)
I'm pretty sure its safe to say that Street Fighter is casual, right?[QUOTE="Zweihand"][QUOTE="Pices"]Your profile name is starting to become a nightmare to me, ever since I see you trolling games all day.Pices

I'm pretty sure its safe to say that Street Fighter is casual, right?Nope. I don't know any casual gamers who are pre-ordering SF4.[QUOTE="Chojuto"]The reason why some people hate it is because of the tweaks that totally screwed over the advanced techniques of the game. And those "glitches" were all advanced techs. Or so I've heard. I personally am too lazy to go test them out myself. But if you Youtube tournament vids of Melee and Brawl, I guarantee you'll see a big difference.

Well, Wave-Dashing actually is an expliot of certain engines (Such as physics) within the game, which were supposed to be in there. However, the actual use of "Wave-Dashing" was not intended by the creators of the game, just the necessary components used within the technique. But, not all "advanced techniques" are glitches.

I've been hearing a lot of hate for Brawl lately and I wanted to find out how people here really do dislike it. Personally i think it is a spectacular and infinitely replayable game that is far superior to it's predecessors. However i've been seeing multiple people who consider it a flop. For this I can only come up with one logical reason: That Brawl didnt' live up to their expectations. This is of course complete and udder nonsense as there is no way any Wii game cold live up to incredible hype train generated By Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The only other reasons i have heard are that Brawl is too slow and therefore less hectic, and that it's too easy. The first of these reasons is completely untrue, as I have had much more hectic battles in Brawl than in Melee. The only thing less hectic is that there is a slight slowdown, but i have found that after switching from Melee to Brawl it becomes completely unnoticeable extremely soon, and I was a complete Melee addict. As for it being to easy, where did that come from? You only get five golden hammers, and difficulty isn't even the point of Smash Bros! The point is to play hours upon hours with your friends, as it is a primarily multiplayer game. It can't be easy or hard, because it is a game with no end that can not be beaten! All that single player stuff was thrown in to keep you entertained when there wasn't anyone to play with, but the core of the game is in Brawling with your friends. So there goes those two reasons. As for the online everyone has been complaining about, I admit it is broken in all meaning of the word. IMO that's pretty much the only reason the game didn't get a ten. But how can melee be better because of that when it didn't have any online at all? If you still disagree, give me another reason why this work of art isn't any good. Jasonguy should be showing up any time now.Head_of_gamesI love the game I hope there is another one.
So Brawl has no tech skill? I never really liked wavedashing; it just didn't seem smash brosey. I like the slower pace of Brawl, melee was just too fast. It also added more than most people think (I know, not as much as melee added, but still). I think it's a great game.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNxnd0b-cCU

just if you guys are interested. Good blog post on the melee vs brawl thingymabob. I feel like many others that you can't play it as competitively as melee, and it isn't as fun to watch. Also the disparity of skill is smaller in brawl, than in melee. and i don't mind that they took out wavedashing, but it sucks that they took out l-cancelling, and low hit-stun. and put in things like Tripping! (wtfbomb. seriously.) Also don't like the fact that the weighting of characters, gravity and jumps of the characters are all very similar. In melee for example fox will fall like a rock, whereas luigi will float like as if he was on the moon. In brawl everyone is floaty, which adds to the slowness factor. Also don't like the nerfing and balancing of alot of the characters, as well as the grab system. dodging system and also taking out Dreamland 64!There is also no longer 'sweet spotting'.this i believe is pretty wtfbomb.
So basically thats the problem(ssssssssssssssssssssssssssss) i find with brawl, its very noobfriendly and not as competitive as melee.
watch a few brawl matches, then watch melee matches and you will see what i mean
but anyways, after the initial weirdness of it. some people sorta like it. maybe you just have to adapt to it.
I for one sold it, since i reverted back to melee, along with my friends.
The thing is i thought brawl was gonna replace melee but it doesn't. They are absolutely two different games. In conclusion i think brawl is the better party game 4v4 free for all. and melee the better competitive game 1v1, 2v2 and so on. Just because of the feel, and the bigger door for mindgames. Its just more fun imo.
end.
Also you really shouldn't be asking smash questions here. This isn't a good smash community.
So Brawl has no tech skill?AdRock92Not every character in Brawl has the ability to tech like that as we can see by him only doing things with Falco, MK, and IC on non moving players. The game is horribly unbalanced like that. :P Every character in Melee had a chance to win and the better player always won, not the better character.
brawl was........ok. it was pretty mediocre. i had some fun moments with it and with friends but it died after a while. i was never really big on smash bro's but I loved smash bros 64 though.
after that it just died for me.
i'm more into more challenging fighting games like street fighter.
To be frank, I loved Brawl and hated Melee with a passion. Brawl made a return to something that the 64 original had and Melee lost. That thing was simplicity. Just because something is not complicated does not mean it does not have as much skill. I never played Melee with wavedashing, nor played against anyone who has done it. When I first heard of it I attempted to do it with mild sucess. Nevertheless, I came to the conclusion that I didn't need wavedashing and all of those cheap exploits. I am convinced I could own someone in Melee who does those exploits without using exploits myself. To be honest, I view exploits pretty much the same way as hacks. For me Brawl was a godsend. I used to play Smash 64 a lot during the Melee days, but now I love to play Brawl.
I think Brawl has a higher skill level than most people give it credit for. "OMG! I can't exploit!" "OMG! Learn to play the game the way it was meant to be played!" I have gone back recently and played Melee again. To be honest I felt extremely limited. The characters just don't seem as flexible, and they are much more stiff in Melee. This I absolutely could not stand. As fast as they are in Melee, they were just not as versatile as they are in Brawl. Brawl has the best game mechanic of the three.
I am a huge fan of fighting games and...
1. Smash Series (I used to wavedash and L cancel like crazy in Melee, but Brawl is far better. Wavedashing was lame, but neccessary for victory)
2. Street Fighter Series
3. Soul Calibur Series
That's right. You can also note that the game mechanics get simpler as it reaches my number one. Smash is simple, but it is utalizing these simple game mechanics in complex ways that make it amazing. It is the only fighter in existance that doesn't have health bars and it's all the better for it. Strategy shifts as percentage changes. If your oponent is at 150% damage, he will shift tactics. He'll recognize your key KOing moves and shift his play so that that move is very unlikely to connect. That is why it is my favorite fighting game. You don't just have to try and hit the guy, you must hit with apropriate attacks according to the situation. (I didn't even mention the off stage strategies)
P.S. If you want to play Smash as a technical fighter, turn off the items and choose neutral stages (final destination, Battle field, Smashville, etc). Smash can be a party game or it can be as skill oriented as you choose it to be. The options are very maliable and that's why Brawl is the greatest multiplayer ever made IMO. It's the only game I can honestly say will last me another 10 years!
