It was still a GC game as well as a Wii game. So they decided to keep it back a bit, the next one should definitly be orchasrated, and if it isnt, Nintendo really get updated in the sound area.

Which inevitably leads to the need of full orchestration.

True, very true but you cant deny that the music in TP was an abomination and no where near the quality as any of the other games. TP's music is very dissapointing not to mention that its not even orchestral.

If you are comparing it to Wind Waker, OOT and MM then how can you say it's an abomination?  All the other games were midi music also, therefore they should all be abominations.  The music sounded fine.

I know they are all midi music. they are abombinations because they are no where near the quality as the other games. if you want to know why they are no where near read my review cuz i really dont feel like typing a giant paragraph.

I don't see the need for orchestation. If I had any problems with the music, it's that I wish there were more songs. The music at Lake Hylia and Ordon spring are both amazing. Hyrule Field didn't sound like the played-out original theme, but it's an overstatement to call any of TP's music an abomination('xept the new Malo Mart) . p.s. don't worry, I read ur review.

The music in TP is an affront to humankind.  If Nintendo can't be bothered to fully orchestrate their pieces, I can't be bothered to play another TP.  Hopefully, PH lifts my spirits.

I actually quite like the synth music in zelda games, it gives it a bizzare feel. anyway fully orchestraed music is done by everyone nowadays and sounds very pompous in my opinion, take Halo for instance, the music on that game makes it feel likes its the second coming of christ, where really its just a pretty good game.

The only reason I noticed the sound wasn't Orchestrated was because of jeff complaining about it in the review... if nobody mentioned it I wouldn't have even noticed... not that I really did anyway.

the reason for TP NOT being orchestrated is the fact that it must fit on a GC disk, not a Wii disk, you have to keep that in mind.

Zelda music really does need to be orchestrated. This is the best TP video I've ever seen and the music is orchestrated. Don't watch it if you haven't finished TP because there are spoilers.

I have no problem with MIDI music, what I would want in the next Zelda game though is voice acting, because reading all that text started to become a pain in Twilight Princess after 3 3D Zelda games without voice acting. I honestly think that the music in Twilight Princess was great, top notch in my opinion.

IMO, some songs aren't meant to be orchestrated and some are.
The original OoT's Gerudo Valley sounds much better than any remix/orchestration made of it. Same goes to MM's Astral Observatory (even though the MM's Orchestrations album has a really good version of it). Many other songs apply to this.
Lastly, I found nothing wrong with TP's soundtrack. They made it sound as if it was orchestrated (I can tell it's not, but it was nice enough). Honestly, I think if people didn't hear "Oh! It's MIDI, not orchestrated! That sucks!" all the time, they wouldn't even have noticed or bothered with it.

While TP's music was great, it would've been even better orchestrated, of course. Zelda games have the best music I've ever heard in video-games, so it will definitely not be worse if it's orchestrated..

TP had midi music because it was meant to be put on a 1.5gb disc.  They didn't have the room to put fully orchestrated songs.

Also, it is nearly impossible to have orchestrated music transcend easily(IE music changing when you get near an enemy.)

I don't think it's hard to make the songs "fade" in a good way. If you get near an enemy, the song's volume that was currently played will be lowered to be slowly drowned by the close-to-the-enemy-song until you can't hear it anymore. Reverse the process when the enemy is dead.

Agreed. Get over it, people. Who the heck plays a game strictly for the music anyway? Midi, orchestrated, I don't much care as long as the game is fun. Get your priorities straight.

So people are basically saying that Zelda doesn't deserve the rich and quality sound of orchestrated music that other games get?

Zelda so need a full orchestrated soundtrack! If you take midi over orchestra, I dont belive youre very intrested in music :P I also think it needs some sort of voice acting. Games are getting closer and closer to cinematic experiences, and when Nintendo follow up on some points (graphics, animations, special effects), and not other (sound, music, voice acting), it simply feels... wierd.

some consider midi music to be nostalgic, but i just consider it another sign of how the series is becoming dated. with TP being the last Zelda of its kind, the new Zelda should be accompanied by new stuff like orchestrated music.

you people do all know that ZREO is not a real orchestra right?   (some of you seem to think it is)

so how are they a better example of what TP could be doing....?   its just midi tracks sent through various instrument libraries.

You'll probably get that on the next game.  TP was originally for the Gamecube afterall, and they only had so much space on those little discs to cram all that programming and would want to use the smallest, most expedient formats possible.  Surely, you didn't expect them to have time to turn around, hire an orchestra, record them, on top of mirroring the game and adapting the controls to the Wii remote for the Wii version and have it out in time for launch???  I swear you folks complaining about that have some seriously faulty reasoning skills and lack any sort of commonsense.

I think the problem with TP was the music itself, not whether or not it was recorded by an orchestra. This isn't to say I wouldn't want to see a live soundtrack (I'd probably be the first one to be screaming with joy) but the actual music in TP was the problem... not the technology. Except for the Hyrule Field theme and a few other exceptions, the music was absolutely terrible. I loved the music from Ocarina, Majora's Mask, and especially Wind Waker, and I still listen to all of the soundtracks quite regularly. Even though they're all MIDI, it didn't make any difference. The music is so good that I don't even think about the fact that it's synth and can enjoy the actual MUSIC. This isn't the case with TP, and I think the underlying reason that so many people are complaining about the technology, is because the music itself isn't good enough to stand on its own.

Uuuuhm, yeah. That realy Nintendos problem. It should have had orchestral music, whatever the reson it didnt, is! And if youre actually defending the bad sides of TP-wii, couse it was supose to be a GC game... then whos the one with lack of common sence? Two wrongs doesnt make a right!

Hmmm... In a magazine Zelda was awarded for best music in 2006. Seems like not everybody don't like the TP music.
