[QUOTE="Cyber-"][QUOTE="DeathScape666"]I only own a Wii, but I'll be completely honest here:
Last year, during the end of 2007, I was getting excited for some awesome third party games coming out, such as Manhunt 2, Battalion Wars II, Medal of Honor: Heroes 2, Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, and a few more games. All of these games disappointed me. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Super Paper Mario, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and many other first party Nintendo games all met or exceeded my expectations.
I still think the Wii is the absolute best system this generation, but pretty much every third party game has disappointed me. The only game that went above and beyond my expectations was No More Horoes. I'll get Zack and Wiki once I finish The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.
I just hate how third parties complain about their titles not selling as well, when they are nowhere near as good as Nintendo's titles. Seriously, if I see Super Paper Mario and Medal of Honor: Heroes II on the same shelf, which one do you honestly think I'm going to get.
I hate to admit it, but I know a lot of those titles will flop. I am still content with the amount of Wii games coming out this year. I also have a DS and PS2 that still gets games, so that's good. The only ones I know that won't flop are Fatal Frame IV, Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, and Spore. I think a lot of those games will be good, but I wouldn't get my hopes up too high.
Did you mention Band Mashups? I didn't see it listed there.
DeathScape666
is band mashups really worth noting? i dont know if you want me to i will.
Anyway I dont see how MoH: H2 or RE UC could have dissappointed you.
Well, if you mention X game, then surely you can mention Band Mashups.
Medal of Honor: Heroes 2: Excellent controls can't make up for a boring single player campaign, medicore online play, terrible character models, and awul AI. The game was lazily put together, and the AI was absolutely horrible. There wasn't enough things to do in the online mode. For a short single player campaign, it was pretty damn boring. It's nothing more than a generic first person shooter. Sure, the controls are great, 32 people online sounds good, and no friend codes is definitely a plus, but its all wrapped into one small, disappointed package. You can read my full review in my profile.
Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles: It lacked depth. I know it is an on rails shooter, but the previews got me excited for something more. I got bored of this game even before the first level ended. The game just isn't fun at all. All you do is shoot really fast, occasionally use your knife, and pick up files. Honestly, it's really hard to view the game play as anything other than "shallow."
Needless to say, Link's Crossbow Training is better than both of those games. It's sad that a tech demo that's just supposed to show off the capabilities of the Wii Zapper is more fun than those three full fledged games I named. If Nintendo made more games, there wouldn't be any reason to get third party titles, except for No More Heroes and maybe Zack and Wiki.
Link's Crossbow Training was basically a demo and nothing more. MoH had a very cool online and very good controls that alone merited a buy esp for people who just owned a wii. RE UC was one of the biggest fan services i have seen in years. Loads of collectable and it is probabaly one fo the best on rails we have seen in years. I dont see how you could say a demo is better than these two games. They may have flaws but they are not terrible.
It would be absurd if they just gave up on third party and went full first party support because they have to stick to some precedents and there are styles and idea that could only come from an outside scource.
I'm more impressed on the Wii line-up than the 360 and PS3 line-up because I can support 3rd party games on a Nintendo console. I'm sick of shooters, sports, sandbox, simulation racing, fighting (except SSBB) and I'm not a fan of WRPG (except for Elder Scrolls games). For me, it's now time for the small and independent developers to shine. I think Wii is the way to go for them.
Big productions like GTA, Halo, Final Fantasy,... don't impress me anymore. I would take Mushroom men (if it's good) over Resident Evil. Heck, Deadly Creatures is more original than Resident Evil in horror surviving. Most of the time, the underrated games are more interesting than the huge productions.
For the PS3, if I get it because of the Blu-Ray player, I'm interested on the Team ICO project (Shadow of Collossus and ICO were also underrated and no one took them seriously) and some PSN games like Patapon or Pain.

Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 may boast 32 people online, (I never even like playing with that many people, anyway.) but the game doesn't have enough options to come back for more. It's just too shallow, and there are better offerings out there.
Resident Evi: The Umbrella Chronicles may have had a lot of fan service, but it lacked in its core game play. I admit that the only other Resident Evil game I like is the number 4, so I may not be able to pass judgement on it... But I still felt it was pretty lackluster overall.
Which is why it is so sad. Seriously Link's Crossbow Training has 27 original levels. Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, while significantly longer, didn't really feel any different from the last level.
I'm not saying that at all. I just think third parties should bump up the quality of their games instead of complaining about how only Nintendo games only sell on Wii. That's not true. Only good games SHOULD sell on Wii, so that's why these third parties aren't making tons of money off the Wii.
I mean, can you believe Ubisoft gave us some rushed first person shooter with unresponsive controls and broken swordfighting? Another first person shooter that has game play as bad as its graphics. Then there's Prince of Persia: Rival Swords, a port of a two year old game with tacked on motion controls that add nothing to the experience, and expect us to pay thiry more dollars than what the original one is being priced for. Not only that, but it lacks blood! The Rayman Raving Rabbids series is the best thing they have on Wii, which is pathetic.
Ubisoft isn't the only third party developer for the Wii. There's more, but it really only seems like Capcom and Nintendo take the Wii seriously, which is sad, because I love the Wii and really want it to see some good games that aren't created by Nintendo.
Sorry for the ranting, but there just have been a lot of disappointing third party titles lately.
What? You mean there are other games coming beside MK Wii and Brawl?
Just jk, but the games I'm really excited about are those two. I will try other games later this year, but my inerest right now are those two games.

what you are saying about MoH and RE UC are more personal opinion than an objective look at these games. Your saying basically they did not rub you the right way. But MoH had a pretty extstensive online with CTF, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, varied weapons, online ranking, friends could join you in a random match, lag free, with plenty of polish in that department. RE UC is coop, extremely long for a rail shooter, most of the RE history is told in this game, good controls, and so on. If you dont like rE games that has nothing to do with the general sentiment of the game.
Is this the best they can bring? No. but is it acceptable? yes.
Besides that these arent the only games and there are more coming out yet I still hear "none of those games appeal to me"
okami is my top priority on wii at the mo. the like of kart and brawl can wait....this is my must get.
im totally serial here (yes south park reference :P), anyone who doesent get okami is going to be frowned at be me...and maybe my cat if he could be arsed :P. seriosuly though, if u havent played this on the PS2 then its an absolute must own on the same scale as zeld is a must own. this is the game that almost out zeldad zelda. i dont exagerate when i say that.

seriously if there is reason for previous okami owners to buy this game then new owners this is basically an AAA title.

I wouldn't say entirely. Medal of Honor: Heroes 2's single player campaign was just too short and generic. There was nothing that set it apart from any other first person shooter. The AI is also god-awful. One time, my allies were shooting at a wall when there were no enemies left saying, "Shoot 'im! Grenade, grenade!" And crap like that. It's just really poor overall.
EA says that they pushed Wii's graphics to the limit, but obviously they haven't when you liked at Prime 3, Galaxy, and Brawl.
The online mode seriously lacked options and only had six maps. Also, I hated the respawning points. The way you hold the rocket launcher is stupid and forced. Pumping the shotgun was lame.
I mentioned some other stuff in my review. It was seriously disappointed.
Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles... Well, they probably did the best they can with a concept as simple as an on rails shooter, but I still think Link's Crossbow Training was more because the enemies were faster, there was a heavier emphasize on the score, the targets moved around a lot more, hitting enemies consequaltively would gain you extra points, along with other things. Umbrella Chronicles could've added so much more.
Also, they only averaged around a 77 percent on GameRankings.
I love the Wii, and think it has the best games... I just think that it is in some ways isn't getting the best effort out of third parties.
I agree that MoH had a weak campaign including dumb AI but I have seen worse even on the 360, but the online has alot of modes and some fun maps to top that off the controls are fast and you never have to compensate for the weaker analog control. Maybe you dont like it but its liked by the overall gaming community meaning those who bought it and their reviewers. I can see why you dont like it.
If EA said they pushed the system then they are crazy EAD Tokyo said that they could have pushed SMG much more so did Retro with MP3.
RE UC didnt do much wrong its not their fault you dont like on rails they are what they are. The fact is there ar even better games than these esp coming this year as I originally said people need to stop just focusing and 2 games a year.

I just felt that Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 was lazily put together, and the only thing it really had going for it was 32 people online, excellent, responsive controls, and no friend codes... Basically, Call of Duty 4 for the PC, but on the Wii instead... Except nowhere near as good. They could've done a lot more with the game. No offline multiplayer? Come on... Even Red Steel offered us that!
EA is crazy... Crazy that they think we want to play the same rehashed garbage every single year.
I can respect that people like the game. Maybe it just isn't the genre for me. But I honestly can't find the appeal in the game at all. Oh well...
Other people enjoy these games, so they are obviously good additions to the Wii library.
I know its not nearly the ebest they can do but it still has amazing features like the best controlled FPS for a console. Is it lame that the best EA gave us was a multiplat with PSP? Totally but the devs who made it did an amazing job considering they were making a WWII shooter than had to be held back with the pSP game. But yes considering the potential sales EA should be putting more priority and just like the DS I think it will be coming later this and next year.
Which brings me back to the point if you want better games then you have to support them. If all you do is buy and pay attention to three games then you wont get more games. Its total BS when people say those are the only games that appeal to you because then you are cutting out genres that you would find on other systems.

I think that's really the only thing Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 did well. Yes, it has the best controls of any first person shooter on consoles, but it doesn't make up for the dull game play. EA knew that they could cash in on making the first online first person shooter for the Wii, and they did just that. I'm sure we'll see far better ones in the future. Also, aside from the aiming, a lot of the motion controls felt forced... To be fair, they did not hinder the game much, but a lot of it felt unnecesarry.
I do support good games... I buy all of Nintendo games because they are good. They are the best titles out there. Third parties think that we don't buy their games because they aren't made by Nintendo? Nonsense! It's just that they don't make games as good as Nintendo, and don't put a lot of effort into it.
I do think that there are a lot of good third party titles out for the Wii right now. Zack and Wiki, No More Heroes, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz, MLB Power Pros, both Trauma Center games, and a few more are really good. But I can't stand to buy a game like Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 when I can just tell that it was lazily put together.
I think a lot of these Wii games have potentional to be great, though. Let's just hope they aren't overshadowed by Brawl.
Well I'm a system warrior at system wars and it's annoying when people say there's nothing after SSBB on the Wii.
If it's not a generic FPS with HD graphics, it pretty much gets completely overlooked there.
"Zack and Wiki, No More Heroes, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz, MLB Power Pros, both Trauma Center games, and a few more are really good" these games are not selling as good as they could. It takes both the devs and the audience and I am blaming both. As it is clear as hell all we hear from nintendo fans is "yay all im gonna buy is SSBB and MK Wii" and then from devs " we are making a casual experience so well just slap together a cheap game with bad motion controls or a PS2 port either way its terribly bdugeted but we think you dont notice *wink*"

Zack and Wiki and No More Heroes sold amazingly for being such incredibly niche games with little to no advertising.

notice i didnt say they sold bad but zak and wiki and NMH should of sold a million if we were basing it off of quality alone. More sales = more games eventually the devs have to take a step forward with risks or the audience has to go out of the norm and put down SSBB for a little bit.
Cyber-
Yup, that's true.
A lot of people don't research their games before they buy them, though. You have to remember that not everyone goes on websites to check out reviews before purchasing a game. Some will buy it based of its boxart alone. I did that until last year.
Some people just don't know which games are good and which ones aren't. I know this may seem weird, but I convinced a lady to get Metroid Prime 3: Corruption over some really bad game (I forgot the name of it...) that she was going to get her nephew... I can't quite remember the name of it. Anyway, I would've recommended a third party title, but Wal-Mart (Or was it Target?) didn't have Banana Blitz, Trauma Center, or MLB Power Pros on the shelves. This was also before the release of No More Heroes, Zack and Wiki, and the new Trauma Center.
I think that we owe it to the developers to recommend their good games over the bad ones. They spent the time to make a good one, instead of just a rushed, crappy one. I think it wouldn't hurt if we let other people know which games to buy and which ones not to buy.
It probably won't do much in the end, but I'll try to convince some parents that know nothing about games to get the good ones.
Also, No More Heroes and Zack and Wiki sold better than expected. Killer7 only sold 15K, and No More Heroes is already well over that.
Ya your right. We do need to do our part esp when the publisher wont even advertise in the slightest.
I am very glad that NMH and Z and W sold better than expected. I attribute that mostly from people like you who used word of mouth to let the people too lzy to find out themselves. NMH is selling out everywhere so the only thing holding it back is Ubisoft and the stores getting the shipments. Some people think NMH can eventuall sell 1 million :o.
We just need to start the process where we can get some high profile devs to dedicate their tme to make a killer game and we the fans turn our heads from those 2 games they buy each year and buy those good games. So then the devs are happy that people recognized their work and the process goes on.
Also I do realise there seems to be weird "catches" with those good games like NMH. There either isnt enough advertising or the title has a weird presentation or something crazy like that seems to follow these games. We just need one where this stuff doesnt happen and when we get one of these huge games alot of eyes will be opened.
The game I am looking forward to the most is Fragile namco bandai's new wii rpg. It suppose to come out sometime this year in Japan and later in the US. The game looks really interesting and its being developed by Tri-Crescendo who were the same people who made Eternal Sonata.
At least I am hoping it comes out here. If not I'll have to import it.
