Clearly they don't know jack about Metroid. Just show your parents what Metroid really is about and tell them there are many games that are exponentially more violent. It's rated T, for christ's sake.

Exactly. The reason they might not let you buy it in the first place is probably because they think it is gratuitous( sloughtered that) Just explaion to them that its not.

Too many parents don't give a crap about what their kids are doing, I applaud your parents for having standards. Maybe their standards are too strict, but it's their house. You've got one more thing to look forward to when you're on your own.

By that line of reasoning a kid should be able to read Penthouse, because Hustler has stronger porn.

yeah, how old are you? In my opinion, the game is clean enough for a 10 year old. No blood, no real guns. Its basically aliens shooting balls of light at each other. very mild.

SPOILER!

metroids not violent at all. Asasinator

Killing your fellow bounty hunters because they've been posessed by Dark Samus isn't violent? Metroid isn't graphically violent, like Doom, but you're going around shooting and killingthings.

i don't want this to turn into a video game violence discussion, but in mario you jump on helpless goombas and shoot fireballs at innocent plants. Mario's rated E. Namilk's parents can and should set whatever standards they want, but i don't see metroid as a very violent game.

Just say that you are (unless you lied to get on here) a teenager and therefore should be able to buy games rated T for teen. Also you could say that the violence is minimal and the puzzle solving elementsin it could actually make you smarter. The last part is kind of BS but your parents don't have to know that.

15 years old and your father doesn't let you have MP3? Sorry, but I can't do anything. You need to show your father the game and see if he lets you have it or not, he might change his opinion towards the game after watching it. I'm also 15 and my parents don't like to watch me playing combat games like MK, they would never let me have one. It's just parents' way of thinking.

Ratings are just a guideline, not a hard and fast rule. Parents (I am one) need to refer to ratings as a starting point, but ratings don't tell the complete picture. That works in both directions though, there are rated G movies/shows and E rated games I find the content inappropriate in for my kids (9, 5, and 4). But there are also some PG13 and T rated movies and games that I find okay for my 9 year old. It's a case by case basis.

That all said, none of us here know you or your family to be able to judge the situation. There is something to be said for your dad's line of reasoning, however, there's also a balance. You're 15, an age where you should be beginning to demonstrate a good amount of responsibility and judgement. How are you doing in that regard? Are you taking care of business at school? In chores and responsibilities around the house? Can your parents count on you to make good decisions? Especially during your teen years it is important to foster a high level of trust with your parents. I'm only 36, so I'm not too old to remember being a teen :) My dad was career Air Force and wasn't always the easiest, but in hindsight he was fair and generally speaking he gave me as much rope as I earned. Most parents aren't as unreasonable as they may seem from teenage eyes, and I imagine that if you give your dad reason to trust you to makeresponsible choices, he'll lighten up a bit about some game choices.

Seems like a fair point.

If you haven't shown your parents (mostly your Dad) that you're ready for this kind of game then no, you're not ready.

You're around these people all the time and they know better then any of us why you should be playing the game. In their opinion you shouldn't be playing the game.

I have to applaud your parents for actually giving a dang what their kid is playing. While it sucks that you don't get the game yet you should be happy you have parents that are taking the time to outline some rules that actually make sense.

The reality is that it will be another 10-15 years before he'll be able to fully appreciate it. I know that from personal experience :-) But I agree, too many parents would rather be their kids' buddies or ignore them outrightthan do their job as parents. Most of the people my age I know that had very lax parents also tend to suffer from poor self-discipline and don't do particularly well in situations where they have to subordinate their own desires/wishes to others.

Wow, i guess i was pretty lucky that my dad's a gun nut and loves fps's. The first 3-d game i got was medal of honor on ps.

Well, in your case, i dont think you would be able to convince him the way you said that you'd be staring down the world with a gun, if he's anything like my uncle who hates anything with explosions. I guess since you're 15 you could just go behind his back and buy it yourself and hide it which is what i did with the metal gear solids, but that would be disrespectful to your parents. Its your call.

Not a real world, not a real gun, not realy even possible. Plus it's not like if you can shoot a real person if your only shooting aliens with a Wii-mote.

The game is rated T for Teen. You should be at least 13 to be posting on these boards. If they don't submit to this logic you can buy the game yourself since it's only a T rated game.

Anyone can buy a T-rated game, even a 2 year old. The only restriction is on M rated games.

Just show your parents a gamespot video or something of the game. If the sneakpeak of MP3 is still out to be downloaded for the Wii then download that and show it to them on the Wii. It convinced me to go get tyhe game in the first place.

I know you are probably frustrated about the fact that your parents won't let you get the game now. Today I told my parents that I wanted Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn for Christmas. My stepmom said that they will at first have to look at the ratings on the game, and check its content. I looked at her like she was crazy. I thought to myself, "what am I? Six or seven?" I am actualyl 17 years of age. I thought it to be stupid to do this for me. Now that I have read this thread I understand more and I appreaciate their actions. Its okay to be upset if you can't get the game. There are plety of more games out there.

God speed.

Did your parents enjoy Starwars? Well, you can argue that Metroid takes place in a galaxy far far away as well, and they use laser blasters much like Starwars.

Hear that guys all things remotely dangerous should be Rated M. Running with siccors is a fedral offense, unless your 17 of course. How bout eating, cant do that you might choke RATED M!!!!! TC there is no blood in metroid, The reason its rated teen is probably because its a little scarier from most Nintendo games, and Samus is using a hand cannon which shoots out energy not bullets.

Show your dad a 2D Metroid (Super Metroid VC, Metroid Fusion GBA) and then Metroid Prime 3. Maybe he'll get that it's fantasy and not a simulator. It might be a good idea not to sound whiny, bossy, or smart about it.

By the way I'm happy some people aren't afraid to do some parenting.

Exactly, aransom is making quality points here and is only saying that this parent cares about his kid enough to monitor the games he plays.

That doesn't make aransom any less of a gamer. It makes him a mature, responsible person who is probably trusted to play games that have subjective content.

ITS RATED T:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D Dude or dudette it only rated T. My parents care about the rating system ut its rated T. There is nothing really bad about it. It has violence, and alien blood but its a great games and one of the best for the wii. It has some mind bending puzzles that made me frustrated sometimes. Ya you can say that "it tests your brain power:D:D

My point was that if X has objectionable material, it doesn't become less objectionable because Y has something worse. The topic creator's dad has the right (and responsibility)to decide any game is inappropriate, no matter what it's rating is.

Well,I fail to see anything "bad" on Metroid.I haven't played Prime 3,but Prime has nothing "bad".

Most likely, this game more than a FPS is a FPPSG (First Person Puzzle Solving Game, lol). You spend most of the time jumping and solving puzzles than shooting.

And you don't kill people (I heard that in the end you do,but IDK since I haven't played it...yet),you kill aliens.Hell! You are getting ready in case the aliens invade the world!

I myself have played GTAs and my parents even let me watch porn. They tend to say "if we prohibite it to you,you will only want it more and more".That is in fact true.I can watch porn but I almost never do...

Well, you just have to show your parents how brain teasing the game can be at times (show them a video) or something like that.

Anyway,good luck.
