I saw online there was a petition for a more mature Legend of 7elda. Its an interesting topic that seems to be dividing the LoZ fanbase. What is your stance on this? How could Nintendo make this work? Harder gameplay? darker story? voice acting?more violent combat? What are your suggestions? I am old enough to remember what happened to the PacMan franchise when Mario came out. Now there is beginning to be a threat from another firm for the action adventure audience. Id like to see the Legend of Zelda compete with the top action adventure games in the genre.

Make it M? Seriously? These people starting the petition need to go back to their Modern Warfare 2 and Gears of War and stop trying to destroy Zelda.

Dividing the Zelda fanbase? More like, purging it... Only the dumbest 13 year olds would actually open an online petition to force something so trivial like an M rating into a game.

It helps them delude themselves into believing they're mature since they're playing a game that those who are 17 and up should only be playing. These people really piss me off, especially when they make fun of Nintendo fanchises and they have no substance to this argument other than the fact that most of these games are E.

I hope to odin people aren't really making petitions for a M rated Zelda. How good is that supposed to make Zelda? What Zelda needs isn't a GOW theme to it.....

Not gonna happen and I'm glad for it. Adding blood =/= mature. And I really couldn't come up with anything worthwhile that would make the game M-rated. A Zelda nipple slip? Come on.

If anything, an M rating makes a game more immature. Just look at God of War and those embarassing sex sequences.

Well being 29 myself and enjoying plenty of over the top M rated games such as God of War, Bayonetta, Gears of War and Madword and the like....I still have to say that i don't really think I want Zelda to be M rated. Sure I could see the value in it, and if a megaton of ridiculous proportions ever happened and they announced it WAS, A large part of me would be excited. A mature Zelda game for my age group, sweet! But Bottom line I don't think it's necessary and would destroy the spirit of what's made the Zelda games so great.

Not to mention that there isn't a force on earth strong enough to make Nintendo create an M rated Zelda game. So....it won;t happen and that petition is a waste of bandwidth :P

Uncouth language! Actually, making LoZ rated M would kill sales. A lot of moms say, "Oh, it's Nintendo. i'll get it for my kids." If they see the mature rating, then they will not only stop buying LoZ but all of The Big N's products (except Wii Fit :P). Link's adventures are dark enough now. They don't need to be more evil. In fact, I wish we could go back to the aLttP days with a more ARPG style.

@BrunoBRS Lol.

You would like to see Zelda compete? With what? It doesn't have to compete with anything. If Nintendo are going to change the franchise in any way (which they are, apperantly) they will have a look at over all game design and decide what aspects might be a bit stale at this stage and maybe freshen some things up ie core gameplay mechanics etc. They will not make LOZ an overly gory franchise or throw in snippets of nudity or bad language for the sake of 'competing' with other titles that do so. They dont need to and the proof is in the pudding.

Ratings have nothing to to with the quality of a game. As cool as GOW3 is, seeing blood and guts spill out of the dying badguys, they dissapear. So they put all the extra effort into something just to have them dissapear when dead. I'm 28 and have no problem playing mario, and then puttin UC2 in my PS3. In NMH1, they added tons of blood and the framerate suffer(1st game). Rating only give fanboys the illusion that they are hardcore while they do nothing but play COD day after day.

No idea. I actually came across a dude in the PSP forums who said "DS sucks because it has no M rated games." O.o

And I dunno how I feel about an M rated LoZ. The games have never been about graphic violence but puzzle solving and adventuring whilst saving a princess of some sort. Let Darksiders remain the spiritual M rated LoZ, and leave the actual Loz series alone.

ok but honestly, i could care less about the rating. i'm not stupid to ignore a quality title just because in the end it got rated M, and i'm obviously not stupid to rule out the possibility of playing a game because said game doesn't have an M rating. just enjoy the game and ignore the (pointless) petition... seriously, do people really think signing petitions will change anything?

BTW @khadaj - darksiders is awesome.

I completely agree. Some of the scenes and characters still stick out to me from that game because of how dark it was. You don't need a game to be rated M for it to be more mature.

farm girl being kidnapped by aliens and then being raped by them (offscreen, but it's implied) and then returned scared as hell of everything and without her memory... that was freaking creepy.

Meh. I think Metroid is the only Nintendo series that could benefit from being rated M. Even then the game doesn't need it.

I do wish the series would evolve a bit, yes

but "evolve to a rating"?
that sound really retarded, you make a game and see what ratings it get. sure you keep somethings down if you really dont want it to hit mature but usally dosn't effect the game in any big away, especially not in a way I want zelda to evolve

You must be one of those kids that think games need to be rated M to be mature. I've played games rated T that are more mature than games rated M. If a game have blood and gore, nudity or sex it will get an M rate if not it gets E or T. Wanting a Zelda with blood, gore or nudity is ridiculous.

Zelda is fine without blood. I dont want to see bunch of 8 yr olds start playing zelda because it has a little blood just like how they play Halo for the same reason. If you mean like OOT then yeah sure a little specks of red doesnt matter(assuming u have version 1.0 which is the only version wuth red blood)

There are actually "gamers" out there who are averse to buying games with less than an M rating. They're generally just sheep (and not the Nintendo fanboy kind of sheep).

I remember when OOT almost was changed to M because of the whole red blood thing and teh shadow temple. It was on the news, and they were making a stupid deal about it saying like, "The living dead rises from the ground at night and the player is able to kill it resulting in a significant amount of red blood coming from the enemy. Even several levels have blood all over the place". Then they showed the well, and some sort of red blur that resembled blood. lol

^Yeah I remember that, they made a big deal about the little red poof that came from Ganon's head when you stabbed him "oh no, now kids will know being stabbed in the head makes you bleed, riot, riot" I had the original gold print before they turned the blood green, for those that have it for VC is it the original version or the second prints with the green blood? Something else that amazes me is since The Dark Knight, everyone's answer to everything is "Make it darker, make it darker" Personally I have no interest in every story have darkness shoehorned into, it wont magically make everything better. Especially since if everything is dark, there is no contrast so nothing will feel dark.

T is as high it should go. Blood won't make a difference in gameplay, Link is not some sex-crazed hero, and Zelda will never be a harlot.
Nudity? Zelda games do not lure fans with that type of "magic." It's ESRB ratings should stay as it is.

Majoras Mask was a mature game throughout, despite the lack of blood. They should make another profound Zelda attempt like that, instead of listening to the OoT fanboys...

I wouldn't mind an M rated Zelda. I'm more worried about them making it a bloody M-rated game while also dumbing everything else down so as to make it a mindless action game with lots of blood and gore just so they can sell millions of more copies to Halo/Gears/GoW/GTA casuals.

if they added blood, body parts flying everywhere, ability to kill shopkeepers etc. and heads flying off will make it mature which would be awesome. i really want to kill ganon in a way that looks like a real death
