I saw online there was a petition for a more mature Legend of 7elda. Its an interesting topic that seems to be dividing the LoZ fanbase. What is your stance on this? How could Nintendo make this work? Harder gameplay? darker story? more violent combat? What are your suggestions? I am old enough to remember what happened to the PacMan franchise when Mario came out. Now there is beginning to be a threat from another firm for the action adventure audience. Id like to see the Legend of Zelda compete

Cruse34

because blood makes the game better of course

who is that other action adventure threat, zeldas about allthats left in the genre. I think teen is fine because blood doesn't make the game better

Are you talking to me or people who signed that petition?? I never said what I wanted or how I would make Legend of Zelda more mature. So please explain the blood comment.

Make it M? Seriously? These people starting the petition need to go back to their Modern Warfare 2 and Gears of War and stop trying to destroy Zelda.

Demonjoe93

Why most you assume something so ignorant? Like I said the LoZ fanbase is dividing not Sony & Microsoft fanboys...this petition was made by Nintendo gamers.

see the petition yourself mate.

I hope to odin people aren't really making petitions for a M rated Zelda. How good is that supposed to make Zelda? What Zelda needs isn't a GOW theme to it.....

tocool340

You hit the nail right on the head....Thats actually what the petition group seems to want, but so far all I am seeing on this thread is the purest side of things. Me personally I am all for competiting, BUT that other game has some really ridiculous violence in it that LoZ doesn't really need. That why I ask without people jumping the gun and getting all upset, how could Nintendo pull this off without all the craziness?

I'd like a darker story and harder gameplay.. I found all the 3d zeldas a bit too easy (especially WW)

couldnt care less about violence

Sword-Demon

Thank You!! Finally someone who answered an easy enough question without assuming its blood, sex & violence people want.

didnt Oot have some blood? well, green blood... anyway a darker story would be nice. i like majoras mask, and im all for more challengeing gameplay. but an m-rated zelda? thats like an m-rated mario...

rojo12689
I had the version of OoT where a lot of the blood was red. Especially at the end when ganondorf coughed up blood. I think people made a big deal about it too....

I remember when OOT almost was changed to M because of the whole red blood thing and teh shadow temple. It was on the news, and they were making a stupid deal about it saying like, "The living dead rises from the ground at night and the player is able to kill it resulting in a significant amount of red blood coming from the enemy. Even several levels have blood all over the place". Then they showed the well, and some sort of red blur that resembled blood. lol

painguy1
I find it strange that people would whine about the little blood OoT showed. It even astounds me more that the same group of people didn't whine about Jet force Gemini. I mean, blood and body parts in that game were being blown all over the place. Yet, it got a T-rating....

An M-rated Zelda game sounds a bit much but I'd still play it. I'm all for better combat and a darker story though. I don't really care about all the "blood" stuff though.

Yeah what is Zelda going to compete with, its clones like 3D Dot Heroes or Darksiders lol. There aren't too many action adventure games that are comparable to Zelda.

Between the Wii and the GC, Twilight Princess sold about 8 million, so 600k isn't much. Also there are a lot of people out there who would want a rated M Banjo Kazooie, simply because they think rated M is the end all, be all. A number like that doesn't mean much. You should have seen the petitions for people who wouldn't buy DMC4 unless it was a PS3 exclusive, or the one about not buying L4D2, as a matter of fact, with that one, the person who started the petition bought the game lol.

These 'mature rating' crusaders need to go away. The LoZ series doesn't need any of the game elements that warrant an "M" rating (cursing, gore, nudity, etc). It needs more mature themes in the story. Dialogue (not for Link though), plot twists, emotions, life, death, etc.

Twilight Princess was supposed to be the 'darker' Zelda, and it was pretty meh. Wow, what if they had added blood, swearing and prostitutes roaming Hyrule's back alleys? Would it have been more fun then? No, because the story was still boring.

The CoD casuals should go back to what they know best and leave the actual good series alone.

This.

Guys, quit being so negative towards this request. It could really make the game more deep if done right. Like maybe developing a relationship with Zelda across the course of the game. Or trying to be with her more even though shes nobility and you struggle to protect her from an unaware Ganondorf who would use her power for evil blah blah blah. Little blood here, emotional, dis functional scenes and beliefs there.

Stop taking this the wrong way.

I've been playing Zelda games since the nes was first released and there were only 5 or 6 games to choose from. I'd rather play zelda in the style of wind waker then tp. I wish nintedno made another cell shaded game in the same style as ww but with forests instead of water. I could care less about a uber mature Zelda. Blood and gore don't impress me there are plenty of other games on the market with it.

The people that want it more mature are the ones that stop playing it the soonest. Their suggestions can be considered last.

All they really want is a cosmetic change - it won't make anything 'deeper'. Even the some of the 'darkest' games out there are no deeper than Wii Sports... Be honest about what you're asking for people: you just want it to look 'cooler'...

Well, I still don't understand the statement. You're basically saying that without a mature Legend of Zelda, they can't compete with the top action-adventure games in the genre. But games in the Legend of Zelda series consistently are the top action-adventure games in the genre. Who are they supposed to be competing with that they aren't already competing with (and winning against)?

Well the games atmospheres are already great but the best way to make it more "mature" would be to make it more grotesque and dark. I mean, Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask already had a pretty "bizarre/weird/creepy" atmosphere.

But that would never happen.

There's no need to compete. It would be one of the only action adventure games without blood, swearing, and excessive violence. It would dominate it's own market.

ok i really think that everyone should just wait for e3 now befor discussing topics like these. just wait for another 2 weeks. the thing is i have exams the same time e3 starts -_-. so anyway its pretty clear and obvious that zelda wii will not be mature rated.

i think the best thing nintendo can do is take all of the suggestions coming from fans.....and throw them in the bin. then proceed to go and make the zelda they want to make. the last time nintendo listened to the market they come up with TP. a fine game but not exactly the pinnacle of zeldadom.

I'm thinking that tougher combat, darker story, and voice acting would actually go a long way towards making it more mature. Does that mean it should have loads of blood or even an M rating? Not at all. Also it should not loose the whimsical side of Zelda either because it just wouldn't be Zelda without some whimsical elements. However some parts of the game could easily be dark and possibly scary (I'm thinking dungeons) and still fit right in.

it missed the zelda atmosphere and exploration, and the combat was a bit on the meh side, but i found the dungeons to be amazing and the puzzles intricate. you'd spend hours on a dungeon (and that you don't go back to the start if you save in mid-dungeon), solving puzzles and killing monsters, and the boss battles were (most of them) epic.

Mature?

As in Link and Zelda take their relationship to a new level.

Zelda n Link

Or as in Link spills blood?

Link fight

Niether is necessary. Sex and violence may help poorly designed games sell better, Zelda shouldn't need them.

Twilight Princess and Majora's Mask have very dark, and "mature" storylines. An M-rating would mean there would have to be sexual innuendo or blood.

Any combination of those 2 would ruin what is Zelda.

Just because it's rated M doesn't mean it's actually mature. It would just have sex, blood and gore, and drugs. None of these would help the Zelda series.

An M rating on a game does not make it better. The Zelda series does just fine without gore and sex. What would be the point in adding useless gore? If a Zelda game were to get the M rating, then it would be nothing more than a stupid gimmick. Some games, however, do fine with gore because it's the nature of the game (Left 4 Dead, God of War, etc.).

I agree if mature =/= rated m. Basically they should do what they did for TP only better - character designs should look less silly, environments should be more foreboding (while others are more bright - to establish contrast), good voice acting, Super Mario Galaxy caliber sound track, story should be overall uplifting but have some very sad / scary parts. And it goes without saying that the game should try to innovate in some ways.

I would like to add - I don't think mature like God of War is necessary, perhaps something more like Shadow of the Colossus which has a very mature atmosphere.

personly i dont think zelda should beM rated but it should aim a little for it like more mature (not mature content) so some of the characters wont be so childish(the older charcters) but i dont want the characters to be too mature i want to keep the silly look but i dont want them to act like the little children i hate when people want zelda to be M rated all of my friends hate zelda because its not M rated and theres one who asks me all the time why wont link have a gun and why it dosent have blood i tell him it would destroy zelda and it makes more people buy it little children and adults and he says that no adult would buy a game rated E hes so annoying

just to let you know. Twilight Princess is the First and only (so far) T rated Zelda.
