Edge always give contraversial scores, I'd wait for a few more reviews.
ONM gave it 96% and called it game of the year btw.

Official Nintendo Magazine gives a good score, who would have thought that?

yea, because bad journalists that cant even give an impartial review always work on official magazines. They also gave Borderlands a 6 and that got an 8.5/8.0 here. So I'm not really concerned. Game is going to be awesome AAE
EDGE is always harsh on games. Also, EDGE uses the full 10 point scale(1.0 - 10.0), unlike most sites in North America, where they use the 5 scale (5.0 - 10.0). A 7.0/10 in EDGE actually means its a good title that isn't exceptional, but its still good and worth buying. Here, people see a 7.0 and think its crap or average because of the 5.0-10.0 scale.
Regardless of score, people will still buy it. I know I want it, regardless of the score.
I don't know what everyone's expecting?
It'll be awesome and a ton of fun but I think people have extremely high hopes for this.
^ This is correct. Edge actually reviews games properly. A "7" isn't bad, just like a "7" on Gamespot isn't bad. It means it's "good" not "great". That's only a "flop" in System Wars terminology.EDGE is always harsh on games. Wow, not even close to my point. I might as well have not even written that first sentance.
My point is everyone's views are different because everyone has a different agenda. Journalists at ONM want to keep thier job, so they give Nintendo games good scores (unless they truly suck). Edge contantly publishes contraversial reviews so that they can sell copies of thier magazine.
I don't believe there is such thing as an impartial review, as everyone has different opinions. And in the end, isn't that the whole point of a review, to get someone's opinion on the game?
i actully dont consider EDGE to be bad at reviewing games,
its just that you can compare them to GS or IGN, becouse they are really HARSH on the reviews
which i think is a good thing actully, but considering they are just soo hard on games, you should compare their earlier scores to GS and see.
games that get 7-8 on EDGE usually get around 8.5-9 here on GS. so i dont think thats bad at all

No, they're not harsh. A 7 out of 10 is a good score. It's just GameSpot, IGN and other North American site's that are too soft on games. Sometimes it seems like GameSpot does not NOT like any game. Every game they review gets a good score.i actully dont consider EDGE to be bad at reviewing games,

[QUOTE="clicketyclick"][QUOTE="ASK_Story"] Those aren't ridiculous scores. They're quite reasonable, actually. [QUOTE="Haziqonfire"]^ This is correct. Edge actually reviews games properly. Again, reviews from sites like GameSpot and IGN are different then EDGE.
Edge is more like EuroGamer.
They use the full 10 scale, not the 5 scale.
Ugh. I'm so sick of this Edge review.
I don't trust it at all. Look at the other scores Edge gave other games.
I believe it comes out on Nov 15th, anyway a game is a flop because of one review? Even if you really followed reviews religiously, I don't know why people think a 7.0 is the same as 2.0. Even if those numbers meant the world to you, a 7.0 would mean the game was good. But in reality those numbers don't mean anything, its just a randoms person opinion. If i gave it a 1.0 does that mean the game sucks, and you'll hate it. If I gave it a 10 does that mean you would think its perfect? Of course not. The only thing reviews are good for is the written portion to find out if a game has any techinical problems.when does this game come out? i want to play it really bad... a good reason to dust the wii off.

Little King's Story got a 9.0 from them, and I think that was very kind. Little King's Story is the best game of the year so far, and I have played most of the big titles this year including Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, RE5 and so on. I'm not surprised at all that EGDE gave LKS a 9 out of 10. It totally deserves it.Ugh. I'm so sick of this Edge review.

This
Yeah 8)
Don't know if I'll get it, but it's going to be a quality game no matter where you come from. It's Miyamoto for chrissakes...uh, hello, when did we ever expect this game to be a 9??? 7 or 8 is about what everyone has been saying the game will be, but everyones gonna get it because it'll be as fun as four swords adventures because of playing with friends (except easier since you won't need gameboys and gameboy cables :P)
*sigh* Not Edge again. Don't trust Edge. They're really wonky in their views. For example they gave God of War 2 a 7, Killzone 2 a 7, Muramasa a 6, Metal Gear Solid IV a 8, Batman AA a 8....these are just examples.ASK_Story
I actually agree with most those scores.
A lot of people seem to be forgetting how scoring is relative to their magazine/website. You don't compare a 9 on certain game on one site to another game that got 9 on another site, if anything you compare 2 different games on the same sites score.
As others have stated, a 7 at Edge is a good score. A 7 at GS is an average score. It's relative. You're used to seeing a 7 as a negative thing, while people who read Edge don't.
Anyway, as I'm not an Edge reader, I don't know really what to make of this score. I'll wait for another source.
Actually, even if all sources are negative I'm still getting it. I loved NSMB on the DS, and this will ATLEAST be as good.

Obviously you're a Nintendo fan. So am I but those are terrible scores. You're actually the first one who admit to agree with these scores. You have the right to your own opinion so I respect that but when EVERY other site is giving great scores to these games, like God of War 2 for example and Edge is the odd man out, it's a little odd. I mean c'mon! They gave Conan the console game the same score as God of War 2 and GoW2 obliterate Conan by a thousand miles! They even gave FEAR 2 a higher score, yes a higher score, than Killzone 2 on the same month! That's a little weird to me. And Muramasa a 6?! Now think about that. One of the most beautifully made games ever and one of the Wii's best action games surely deserves a higher score than a measly 6.People talk about EDGE's scores, but what about its written reviews? I know people defend EDGE's written reviews, but I personally find them dull and uninformative.
This game doesnt look that great, its a recycled game with the same gameplay but improved graphics.
suntaice
Recycled from what? All the levels are new. Please come in here with some facts to your statements. If you just guess about things, it is not an opinion.
Same gameplay and improved graphics? Thats what every game in every video game series has done for years.
Aside from the fact that this is one reviewers opinion, and that 7 means "good" while forumites squeal about it standing for mediocre or failure, this is Edge. They give everything a 7 if it's good. Because 7 stands for "good."
Not to go off on a different note or anything, but I think gaming could benefit from more games getting 7's and less earning 9's. Oh well. I'm still going to play it because I love me some Mario!
Am I the only one who doesn't understand the obsession people have with review scores? If there's a game I really, really want to buy, I'm probably going to buy it unless EVERYONE says its complete crap. This isn't American Idol for God's sake.TheLordMagnusI don't understand it either. I guess some people get emotionally invested in their favorite game to the point that they take it personal when a reviewer criticizes it, even when the criticism has merit. I value the objective information in a review (slow frame rates, broken controls, lousy textures, bad music, ect.). I don't ignore the subjective information, but it's of lesser value to me.

New Super Mario bros will sell 5 million copies, at least. wiifan001Maybe even more if I buy a copy for all my friends. ;) A Mario game that finally goes back to its roots while doing a lot of things better. No online but whatever. I missed SMB3 and this is a great reward. It was what we were asking for, for the most part. This game def' deserves to be successful. Now Nintendo can't say we don't know what we really want.
