Nintendo has been speculated to be the 1st to release the next console

Reasons are the Wii currently is first in innovation but last in specs and power as it was close to the GC

They have gained lots of revenue to create a new console with better specs and features

They have already confirmed that the new system will be in 3D and many developers for Nintendo have

said that the new system will blow you away. I hope it's really powerful and just as revolutionary as the Wii

- I'm thinking a 2012/2013 release, but who know what the controls will be like,.. hopefully like the current

with a more sensitive controller and better knun-chuck, I really enjoy looking at graphics in games

- despite the fact that that is not what ultimately makes a game great so I hope they are spectacular

I know most people aren't ready for a new system but I think it's always exciting

to look at what the future of games will be like

A correction, they didn't confirm 3D. I believe it was Iwata who said they were taking the same approach they did to HD with the WIi, their playing it by the numbers. What that means is they wait for 3D TV's to become mainstream items, which will not happen in the next few years. So its really quite the contrary, that was basically a confirmation that they won't be adding 3D.

Most people don't want a new gen because of the usual prices and with nintendo's record it should be welcome.

Surely they wouldn't have the same controls. Nintendo are technological geniuses. They would be more original, creative and would explore. I could very well be wrong, but they would have a new perspective, wouldn't they?

i dont want a new gen yet. even if the Wii is lacking in horsepower, there is still so much that can be done with all the consoles. Wii has untapped potential and it shows now that 3rd parties are making decent games to go with nintendos amazing 1st party library. i wouldnt mind waiting til 2013 or latter.

I'm betting on Nintendo to go first, mostly because they don't have any reason to prolong this generation. Microsoft and Sony likely don't want a new generation to start up anytime soon since the former finally started to turn a profit and the latter will want to recuperate some of the major losses they've incurred at the beginning of this generation. Meanwhile, Nintendo's been making nothing but profits from day one, and I'd wager that support for the Wii from both first and third-parties will start lumbering down soon in favor of the 3DS and R&D into the next system.

In terms of when the next-gen systems get released, my bets are Nintendo will release their next system in 2012, with Microsoft quickly following suit in 2013, and Sony releasing theirs in early 2015 at the latest.

this is all connected to that metroid related source or something right? It seems like when we hear things like this 2 years later we get a console because in 09 we were hearing about 3ds etc.

I expect the new console to have tera bytes of storage and better online. Also I expect the wii remote and nunchuck to be as accurate as the wii remote with wm+, and a classic controller similar to the 360 or PS3 controller. Cost should be between $350-$400.

You're probably going to be let down, then. Nintendo never shells out for cutting edge technology for the sake of having cutting edge technology, and they always make sure they can sell something at a profit while still being reasonably priced. Most likely the next system will be a noticeable step up from the Wii in horsepower and storage capacity, but will probably be dwarfed by Microsoft and Sony's next systems, and will be in the $250-300 range.

As for online, I'd expect it to be improved, but at the same time, I wouldn't expect it to be as good as Xbox Live.

paranoidpixie95

I would think that they would just take the current control system and expand on it. Iteration may not be something we see too often with Nintendo in regards to consoles, but after the rousing success of the Wii, it seems like the best course of action seeing as they established a new gold mine of a market for themselves.

With the way Nintendo handled the 3DS and not wanting consumers to be forced to wear glasses I don't see them even thinking about releasing a system and would only be able to be viewed with glasses. Unfortunately for them, they don't make televisions and tv manufacturers are most likely at least a few years away from being able to sell or even create tv's that would be able to be purchases.

3D tv's are expensive, have obnoxtious glasses (some even require batteries to work), and are usually only offered in larger sizes (not giving lower budget people too many options), and not to even mention.... the glasses are expensive.

Nintendo will refine the controls and capabilities, but that's all I'm expecting.

In all honesty (again looking at the 3DS), it's not like it was a completely different product. More of a modification/upgrade.

Considering they are releasing the 3DS next year and that Wii has no new addons, I'd say it's realistic to expect a new-gen console from them the first. They already even hinted in this direction. The question now is just when do they plan to unveil it and how will it be like. Considering they are focusing on 3D with the 3DS and that Nintendo already experimented with 3D in the past (the ill-fated Virtual Boy), I'd say the next console will most probably also have a sort of 3D function. The question is just what exactly.

They were ahead of Saturn but the DC came out only 3 years after the N64. I was just looking at VG chartz and this year is the first that the Wii isn't selling the best of the consoles and it's even selling lower than PS3. I'm aware it's not the most accurate but it's the easiest source to find. I'm hoping to see something for E3. I'm hoping for something that competes with the other consoles more directly with better graphics, online support and memory. I think with all those features it should be a very successful system.

WHO CARES?! Who cares about the next gen? You are in possession of the best console of any gen ever, and we don't know ANYTHING about the next gen console. It hasn't been announced. It hasn't been hinted at. No one should care about next gen. This has been a Wiifan001 post.

For being one of the very few accepting and admitting "where the real problem lies," i give props to you for the Smash Bros Brawl segment. I absolutely loved Brawl, but those who didn't don't know whose fault that is. (Of course we must set the online portion aside first, but yeah).

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That is why they call it the present.

With games i'm still enjoying and many on the horizon i'm anticipating, pure speculation about the next console seems irrelevant to me at this time.

I see all three new consoles being revealed at E3 2012. Nintendo, I am assuming, will be the first to release the console that same year. Microsoft and Sony will launch their goodies in Early or Mid - 2013.

Actually Japan will be getting glasses-less 3D TV's soon (not sure how good they will look) and I'm sure Nintendo knows this.

Also one of those TV's will be around $2,500 for a 22" model (and 22" isn't a Large TV) - while that's very expensive, it is new tech.

This thread starts out by suggesting Nintendo didn't have the money to compete directly with Sony and Microsoft with a powerful console. Nintendo make more profit in the games industry than both those companies combined.

Sorry, I can't read your blog. Your profile is set to private.

Also the reason I say Nintnedo's next console will be in Tera bytes is because they patented holographic technology a couple yeas ago.

EDIT: I finally managed to read your blog, and I guess your right, sometimes gamers(me included) expect too much. Great blog btw.

Its going to be a VERY long time before 3D becomes standard. Its not just video games, but also releasing other media in 3D. Until then, its pretty much a waste of time to do it.

I don't think it even will become standard until we can lose the glasses, I realise kids don't mind because they accept things like that but most adults don't want to know and people who wear glasses already can't wear them :|.

Nintendo needs to make another console especially because piracy is a big problem with the Wii.

Sherjas24
Oh? And what's gonna stop piracy from happening on the next console?

Technically, the 3DS garuntees Nintendo is the first to get next-gen. As for consoles, they'd probably be first. MS and Sony are trying to push the 360 and PS3 way farther with Kinect and Move, but after Skyward Sword, the Wii seems about done, and Nintendo doesn't have much left to do with it. I'm thinking Christmas 2012, most likely. Maybe even sooner, but I imagine they'll want to sell as many 3DSs as possible first.

1. No 3D was basically confirmed because it's not a main-stay.

2. I think you're right that it will come sometime in 2012 or 2013. However, Nintendo will not be first out of the gate. In fact, I don't think they've ever been first out of the gate if memory serves me (at least for consoles).

3. Miyamoto said it will be HD, so it will be at least as powerful as a 360 or PS3.

4. They do have lots, LOTS of money, but it also costs a lot of money to launch a new console. And there's nothing that indicates that the next console will sell just as well as the Wii did (see PS2 vs. PS3 for example). So it's risky.

5. Motion controls are a given. I'm seeing something much more accurate and sensitive.

6. Nintendo's next system definitely won't be limited to just a graphics upgrade, that's for sure. And it will blow our minds.

Surely they wouldn't have the same controls. Nintendo are technological geniuses. They would be more original, creative and would explore. I could very well be wrong, but they would have a new perspective, wouldn't they?

c_rake

I would think that they would just take the current control system and expand on it. Iteration may not be something we see too often with Nintendo in regards to consoles, but after the rousing success of the Wii, it seems like the best course of action seeing as they established a new gold mine of a market for themselves.

I would like to see a modular approach to upgrading where peripherals carry over.
