I'll stick with Live...Wet_Sand
we dont know what it is yet. You could be like some guy in 1996 who said I'll stick with mario 64 when they announcd 3-D Zelda Project
Link.
During a Game Developers Conference session called "Planning the Wii Menu" today, Nintendo's Takashi Aoyama announced a new Pay to Play program. This will be a new version of the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection (NWFC). Aoyama explained that NWFC will remain a free service, but forthcoming experiences will require users to pay a fee to enjoy. These services will fall under the new NWFC: Pay to Play program. Games that utilize the new service will feature a logo similar to the one used for NWFC but is orange and reads Pay to Play at the bottom.
The online is still free. You just pay if you want extra content. You people are tripping for nothing.

lol i know ppl dont worry about it
augh....
I hope I do not like a lot of this titles
Of those included at least I guess we could expect more/nicer features for online gaming :)
People wake up!!! there will never be a voice chat and full stop! stop day draming hello stop day dreaming! its not gonna hapend geez! people will argue curse, kids will scream and cry and parents will bann and sell the wii's so there will never be a voice chat.nezardm
go to nintendo.com there is a feature already to control "open chat" in parental control... how would it work???... do not know. Maybe it would avoid kids entering adults games.. maybe you would just chat with friend on your list (which for kids wshould be control by their parents, if parents actually care, there is parental control for that) Does this implied we can expect chat voice soon??? NO. But do not say that the reason is "bc it would affect kids" N already have a way to avoid pr try to avoid this. Why then we do not have it yet?? Ask N :D
That's a legitimate concern. I'm not worrying about it too much yet, I'll wait until I get all of the details. While I agree with you comment, Jordan, but I believe this might not end up being the case. I have a bit of a funny feeling that big name game companys like EA and Activision will surely abuse this new feature. I can almost-guarantee that they will.icarus212001

I'm convinced that at least 90% of the people who saw the article read no further than the title of it. It's extremely frustrating, considering the article was seven sentences long. Too many people are getting angry without even knowing what they're angry about.
To those were are angry and do know what you're angry about, I applaud you. Complain to your heart's desire. But everyone else, who thinks that Nintendo has announced a blanket charge for internet use on the Wii, take thirty seconds and read the article. Then we can debate.
Thank you... I thougt I was the only one frustated with this...
Do members even read the stuff bf going all berserk?? I mean at least read the whole post of the TC. Even there you can READ pay and play for SOME games.... especifics games....
and like someone already pointed out... now that I think about it I do not even have to worry is pry gonna be for MMO games.... so I may no need to pay this for any game :D:D (me happy :P )
EDIT: I read some others post on this last page... and thx god there are a couple that understood what I (we) did.. So OK.... online still free... nothing to be like "headless chicken" running around yet.
One word "GREED".
Nintendo, from day 1 was making a profit on Wii sales. They have money to burn. they can afford to provide a free service. Guys, just because you don't like friend codes and the crappy online that is currently provided doesn't mean you have to pay for it. Nintendo can easily send an update an fix this for free. They are trying to charge now because they think they could do that and you will accept it.Judging from the posts, you guys are willing to bend over, so they are right.

The only thing I dislike about Nintendos greed is that they charged $250 for the Wii. I mean come on, the specs on the Wii are very similar to the GC. The Wii has a better CPU yes but the graphic cards are almost the same making the CPU useless. This can be seen in most games that look visually the same as most GC games or worse. The new Mario kart game looks no different then the 5 year old DD. It also laks AA which makes the new graphic card and cpu appear useless on the Wii. I mean come on the N64 had AA on 90% of it's games why don't we see it on a system how many years ahead of it?
The price of making a
Wii:$150 Retail $250 The DVD reader is what cost the most on it.
360: $330 Retail 399.00

there better be better elements such as voice chat, rankings, and maybe even acheivements
at the moment the only game id pay for online is brawl
I'm not too concerned. It probably has to do with DLC and MMO's. The DLC I can't see happening for a while, or at least until the big N decides we can have more storage... somehow, or something. :P And MMO's take servers, servers cost money, money doesn't grow on trees so gamers pay for server costs through subscription fees. That is unless you want to play a Moderately Multiplayer Online game. I'm sure WoW would be fun with only 32 PC's running off some random guy's Wii as the server (< obvious sarcasm).
Even XBL had this with Final Fantasy 11 and Phantasy Star Online. Except there you pay, Internet connection, XBL subscription and the subscription to the game. And that's why I don't play mumorpuhgers; they're wallet abuse!
Just relax, there's no concrete news as to what this all means yet. Besides: jumping to conclusions doesn't burn any calories... it's a pointless exercise.
[QUOTE="ninjavelmor"]^ to the poster above. if you didn't realize it before, nintendo is a company, out to make money. i don;t see why you are complaining about a $250 price, if its to much, then don't buy it, no one is forcing you to. with the xbox360, you have to spend $100 for the wireless adapater, again, you don;t have to buy it if you don't want to.
with the pay to play thing, i think more then half the people on this topic didn't even read the article. they never said, online gaming was now going to be fee based, they said certain things would be fee based. xbox live does it. why can't other compaines do.

I am just saying that's a lot for a system thats weaker then the 7 year old Xbox in horse power and no hard drive. $30 more you could just get a 360. Now Microsoft has done a great job in price. They have made the 360 almost the same price as the last gen ps2 with 10X the power of that system.

Your pretty much paying for a system weaker then the 7 year old Xbox that sold for $250 with a built in hard drive. That's why I find the price tag of $250 too much.

my appologies if I have offended you.. You have the right to be mad. My comment is for those that are mad bc ONLINE is NOT going to be FREE (which is not true, which means they did not read the article)
In you case you are mad bc the games that you like are those that may end up getting the Fee. You can get as mad as you want. Rant away my friend :) (and sorry dude... about you having to pay to play... )

BRAWL, MARIO KART WII, AND
ANY GAME WITH THE
BLUE WIFI LOGOARE
FREE TO PLAY ONLINE!!!
Pay and Play is for certain games, and will have a different logo, the general Wi-Fi service is still free. We do not know what games will use the service, nor how much it costs or what comes with it.metroidfood
Perhaps a bump then. (again unlikely)
There will still be our normal bare Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, so no need to be so outraged....
Also if you read it instead of the title you would have realized that you only pay for some features to play, like most people already said, like voice chat and no Friend Codes but that just speculation.
And I think you pay with Wii points, but I'm only guessing that part.
This is awesome news! Now Ninty will have a venue for harcore online gamers.
I mean, think about it: Ninty wants gaming to be safe for kids, but there's alot of grumbling from many gamers who want more out of the online experience. The other consoles don't have problems with friends codes or lack of voice chat or lack of being able to communicate to a stranger. By introducing a pay to play program, they can step up on the online aspect and still keep kids safe. How does it keep kids safe? Because kids don't have credit cards.
It's just a way for Ninty to seperate the kids from the more hardcore online gamers and deliver the correct experience to each. A way for them to have their cake and eat it too, so to speak. I'm pumped.

He's right, from a technical standpoint the Wii is a ripoff. A huge amount of the price of the Wii is for profit. The Wii is just an overpowered Gamecube with a great controller. It has the same power as the old XBOX! Nintendo can afford to keep its price so high because their is demand for the Wii. But you are NOT getting what you pay for, and everyone knows that!
I dont think Nintendo is doing this to directly affect the community but rather attract third party developers and publishers to help out with online play on the Wii. As I believe was stated in the article.
I just hope this does not extend to the DS since I play more Wi-fi on that than the Wii.

Most things for sale these days are marked up atleast by twice as much. That is how companies get successful, they make money. You didnt really expect to may only the cost of producing the wii did you?
And no the wii is more powerful than the old xbox which sold for $300 a few years ago.
