So they're just going to make the interface like a touch generations game.

Oh GOD why change anything? Who cares about the casuals, they have the rest of the 1000 titles on the Wii. I LOL'd at Mario is a difficult game. Yeah OK!! Zelda, yes can be a very difficult game, but Mario is one of the easiest games.

LMAO

Great.. it must suck to be a developer at Nintendo, instead of "Ok wow.. let's see, the next Zelda, ok people flood me with awesome ideas!" it's "Ok the new Zelda.. how can we add Nintendo's newest motto into the game design and make it accessible for everyone?"

Please.. they already gimped Mario Kart by making it so n00bified some 7 year old tard can beat an adult veteran.

And Mario Galaxy wasn't hard.. I beat the game with 242 stars in less than a week easily. Twilight Princess for all the promised hours (what they said 72 hours?) first time through I beat it in 27 hours. If they don't challenge the hardcore crowd with the hardcore games, but simply n00bify them for the casuals, they WILL lose their hardcore audience.

I'm not enthused for the next Zelda at all, what with talk of encorporating the Wii Fit board, and now the 1:1 motion plus, and talk of applying touch generations influences to make it accessible for retar- ahem I mean 'casuals'

Miyamoto needs to go work for Toy Kingdom.

Oh god please don't screw up Zelda like you screwed up Mario Kart.mushir123

They didn't screw up Mario Kart. You can hold out about three blue shells if you have enough skills. There's a reason why casual gamers usually have about 3k points online and "core gamers" about 8k. ;)

Also all the new roads are freaking awesome.

Anyway, please don't make this on Phantom Hourglass standard. I think Twilight Princess is superior to OoT ( not to MM though ), but Zelda DS was AWFUL compared to other titles.

i dont they mean that you are going to have to solve math problems while fighting ganadorf it just means that the controls will be easier to pick up like phantom hourglass. that was a good zelda game and had easy to pick up controls. the 1:1 controls will make it easier for ppl to pick up as they can just move as they think they should and not have to worry about buttons. also it could mean that like some touch games their may be a difficulty setting which seems like somthing nintendo would do think about brawl and its differnt difficulty levels.

Its a design philosophy, more or less the same as the one Lionhead has used in their games and especially in Fable 2. Make the game accessible to everyone but without compromising its depth. Its about the controls and gameplay approach. SMG controls are really simple and so is what you can do but there is still a lot of depth to the game because they maximize and utilize every little bit of what you can do with those controls.

And thats what they need to do with Zelda Wii. Create a game with a new design approach where we may not necessarily have a plethora of items like TP, but a core few like in PH that have a tremendous amount of depth to them and usability within the game world. And with that create a world that is rich with content and rewards the player for exploring and experimenting with the controls and the items they have.

I could barely bring myself to read that :( Phantom Hourglass is an indication of how this may turn out, the game is significantly shorter than most Zelda games and a lot easier. Miyamoto clearly states they want to make the franchise games more accessible to the casual gamers, and to be frank this may well turn out to be worse news than that crappy conference. I will obviously wait until we see something of the core franchise games, but I hope this is just talk because if the two games we get a year are bastardised for the casual audience I have no need for a Nintendo console.

"For example, we've got the Touch Generations series. Now, we're not necessarily going to make our 'franchise' games in that style, but we'll take what we know and have learned -- the philosophy behind those games -- and incorporate it into franchise games. That's a philosophy that's very strong at Nintendo."

They didn't say that will include the Touch Generations series on Zelda. All they want to say is they want to bring something new that non-gamers and core gamers should like it. It confirms that Zelda will have new ideas.

But there's no Brain Training at all on Zelda.

Miyamoto seems more and more like a sell out every time I hear him in an interview. Here's a reality check for Nintendo and Miyamoto, you CAN'T appeal to everyone. If you appeal to family families than you alienate the teenage and young adult audiences who thinks that your games are to generic and corny. Its not the comment about making the controls easier to understand that bothers me, its the fact that he says that he wants to appeal to casual gamers in the next zelda. Appealing to casuals is what made a potentially great game like Mario Galaxy get boring to me mid way through because it was to easy. The funnny thing is I think Nintendo's profits would double if they had a seperate marketing campaign for "hardcore" gamers. How many of the PS3 and Xbox crowd will turn to wii if they promoted more third party games like Fatal Frame, Disaster Day of Crisis, Tenchu etc. I'm not saying to eliminate the "family friendly" games. Just to have two separate marketing campaigns to say ok we want to appeal to families but we also want to appeal to the traditional gamer demographic as well. It would give them a flawless image.

While I feel a little guilty trying to shoot down any optimism (because I do want to keep some myself) Nintendo also believe that we will all be enjoying Wii music, but I am afraid they have very mch lost touch with were gamers are and how non-gamers are different.

What I understand from reading that, is that Miyamoto wants to make games like Zelda and Mario easier for casual players to pick up and play but still keep hardcore gamers satisfied. So maybe they'll incorporate different control options. Before you start the game you can choose an easier control style which would be for casual players. Maybe you can even choose a difficulty. You've never been able to choose a difficulty on any Zelda or Mario game before, it's just one set difficulty for the entire game. Sure, the levels may get more challenging in Mario games and the puzzles and dungeons get harder in Zelda games but the overall difficulty doesn't really change. There's a lot they could do to make those games easier for casual players. It doesn't mean they've forgotten about hardcore gamers.

All I've read from people posting in this thread is that almost everyone think's the next Zelda game will be ruined. Why not wait until more info is released instead of whining about something you all know nothing about? If you're a true Zelda fan you'll buy the next Zelda game anyways because it's Zelda and incase you've all forgotten, this is Shigeru Miyamoto we're talking about. It's safe to say he knows what he's doing. Just wait and see.

Must everything nowadays be aimed towards the casual gamers? I personally do not like the casual games. And by bringing in casual gamers in, they will eventually become hardcore and then what happens? Nintendo, I've stuck by you through tough times, but please don't mess with the legend of zelda!!

LOL seriously all you can do is laugh now.. i mean nintendo just needs to stfu now im through with them, every time words come out there mouths its about appealing to casual gamers.. ok go do that nintendo, go make your money but please why must you alienate your core audience to such extent that now you want to casualise the core games that we grew up on.. im through with nintendo, xbox 360 is the way to go now. (already have one)

and for any noob that wants to quote me and say im over-reacting please dont because you are truely blind if you think that nintendo gives a damn about you anymore. if they did they would go back to making games like star fox 64, super mario bros 3, legend of zelda oot, metroid , you know games that were really challenging and rewarding, Hardcore Games.

I'm pretty sure that 1:1 sword fighting found in the apparently god-awful Wii Sports Resort would probably fit well into Nintendo's new philosophy on designing games such as Zelda. Isn't that what people have been asking for?

please no... oversimplification will not make the game appeal to the hardcore and casual players alike. There is no pleasing everyone. The casuals won't buy it because the title doesn't start with wii and end in some activity. The hardcores will still buy it but feel let down if it has been watered down. The crowd that is actually excited for the next zelda has extremely high expectations and wants it to be an epic masterpiece. Please Nintendo, if you truly want the casuals to start playing more hardcore games, please do NOT attempt to bridge the gap by messing with Zelda.

If Nintendo messes up Zelda.....

And for the record, Super Mario Galaxy was awesome. I don't care if it was a little easier than SM64 - I loved it anyway.

Oh god oh god oh god (etc). I am very loyal to Nintendo but this only goes so far. Please for god sakes Miyamoto, DON'T TOUCH ZELDA!

I'm scared, I really am, if this happens to Zelda, and some crowd of nOObs, sorry it's 'gamers' now isn't it? What if it goes into games like Metroid, Starfox, Mario!! The new Zelda...Oh wow a switch! *steps on Wii fit board*...test Link's IQ *enters Brain training*. Please no.

I do agree with the people saying they wrecked Mario Kart Wii, it was a moderately good game, but I got it not that long ago and I have already forgotten about it, whereas I played DD for 5 years. Casual gamers need casual games, not making the 'hardcore' games easier for casuals, where do we go? I really do hope another console comes into the market.

I think we are officially forgotten about guys...

Yeah, like if microsoft and sony care about gamers, they only care about our money and it's normal they're companies. And if you dislike so much what Nintendo is doing this generation then please be my guest and sell your Wii and use the money wisely.

because someone has busy life and can't spend much time playing or is a beginner at something doesn't make him a retard wash your mouth and be polite.

I don't know why people is reacting like this, we know nothing about the game yet, making the controls easier doesn't mean nothing and that has always been done. Super Marion Bros was easy to pick up and play, even my mom played it.

Phantom Hourglass was approached with that same philosophy, it wasn't the end of the world, In fact it was the beginning of one. A truly mature medium must merge it's hardcore base and mainstream audience and meet in the middle. That's why in literature you get things like Harry Potter or The DaVinci Code which anyone can get into and enjoy but Ph.Ds argue about their merits and delve into their depth.

what with talk of encorporating the Wii Fit board SolemnJedi79

Got a source for that?

Frankly, you people are overreacting. Simpler userface, ie controls, does not mean its gonna be totally ******. Look at SMG and how good that was. My only problem is that puzzles might be simpler, but seriously how many times have we already done them even before and after OoT. Really, if they can make some kind of new system that is easy enough for the casuals, yet still enough to challenge the core because its so different than what we are used to, then I dont see a problem with that.

This game could be great. But Nintendo has to open their eyes. They have to start catering to the hardcore crowds. Or next time in the E3 they'll have nothing to talk about concerning sales. They'll be like "As you can see our sales this year have hopped down to 3 million units. Isn't that fascinating." If Nintendo's next consle is for casual gamers, I will most certainly not purchase it. Although 80% of 360 games are flooding the PC library.... Gears of War for example is on the PC. Unreal Tournament. Some great 360 games can be bought on the PC. And buy a PC game controller and you've g yourself a 360! Graphics depend on your PC. So thats why I got a Wii over a 360. And for the hardcore Wii owners, The Conduit, James bond quantum of solace, and Call of duty world at war are well on their way to hitting the wii console.

It was a harsh way of saying this, but it's a fact. Nintendo wanted to bring noobs to games, and now, since they'll make much more money with this wider audience, we aren't worth anything anymore. Some loyal Nintendo fans will probably stay true to the Wii until its end, but personally, I'd rather get a 360 and rent the occasional good games that comes out on Wii. Galaxy, Corruption, Super Paper Mario and TP was a huge disappointment to me.

Of course, I'm still getting Animal Crossing : City Folk, The Conduit and Dawn of the New World.
