I picked up RE4 today since I am a fan of the series and the reviews of RE4 were extremely high. I can not beleive my eyes... these graphics are a joke. I bought my wii a week ago and realized I would not be getting anything great in the graphics department. The first game I played was Mario Kart. Not good graphics, but damn atleast its playable. With resident evil 4 it looks like someone threw up on my television. It is to the point where it affects gameplay. I can not see items. A pack of ammo is just a red blotch on the screen.

Now I realize this game was made quite a long time ago, but I have played games such as world of warcraft which was released even before re4. World of warcraft looks like CRYSIS compared to re4. Kind of a shame since the gameplay is pretty cool, but I am sorry I can not take graphics this bad. :(

Maybe the PC version looks better?

Please tell me Zelda and mario galaxy do not look this bad!!!

Do you use a component or composite cable? Unless you have a component cable there's no excuse for complaining about this. But no Mario and Zelda both look significantly better than last gen, as does Metroid Prime 3.

I've recently become spoiled by my PS3's graphics and I still think RE4 looks good. You're being overly picky.

The sad thing about it is....

if you think that RE4 looks horrible.... play 90% of the other Wii games out there because developers don't seem to mind releasing poop looking games.

There are some gems, but mostly not.

My suggestions are to buy component cables, and look at Haziqonfire's thread towards the top of the board (sticky). It shows you what games are coming out, and what the look like.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is quite a looker just as a heads up (for a Wii game)

Even so, RE4 was stunning for a Last gen game and is still a great game to look at now. Maybe it's the TV or cables TC is using.

Are you playing in 1080p? If so, some Wii games look really, really bad in high def. RE4 is probably one of them considering its age.

You HAVE to buy Component cables if you are using a HD T.V. I have some MadCatz cables and they work fine, I am sure Nintendo's are the best though. Then go through the Menu setting and set it to 480p. Also do you have your Wii set to Widescreen?

Are the cables that came with the wii component? I just rented Super Mario Galaxy and it looks OK. Nothing great, but I know its a wii so thats ok. Super mario galaxy looks far better than re4

No, the Wii comes with composite cables. You're playing in 480i on a TV made for HD. Of course it looks like crap. If you get the component cables, everything will look much sharper. And just for your information, RE4 is one of the best looking games on the system.

Go here for a comparison: http://www.gamespot.com/features/6162297/p-2.html Notice how everything gets sharper and is no longer blurry? The difference is even more profound when you see it in motion on your TV.

Composite (the cables the Wii comes with):

Component cables:

Yes, it's THAT noticeable. Component cables are MANDATORY if you are going to hook up your Wii to an HDTV.

Ya but TP would've raised the graphical bar for GC games. My point is it looks way better than most last gen games. And anyway if you're using the composite cables it came with then you can't judge graphics at all. Component is so much better than Composite it's a joke.

Take a picture of it so we can see what you're talking about. I don't believe how bad you say it is. It can't be that bad. I think you're probably exaggerating, or doing something wrong. Do you have your tv set to 480p as well as the Wii itself?

It's the resolution. No way does it just say "480", no Wii says that, it's either gonna say 480i or 480p. Just change it to 480p and problems should be solved.

There's also a possibility that the game is defective or something is wrong with your TV, in which case, we can't help you.

Part of the problem is that you don't have these (wii component cabels)

Also mabey you're expecting too much from a Gamecube game... even if Resident Evil 4 it is probably the best looking one (well top 3 anyways).

actually the resolution is the same, if it ends with i or p is a matter of the refresh type. but apparently we already have our problem solved.

Its just the textures look very low res.... maybe I am just not use to it since this is only my 2nd wii game. I am already getting use to the graphics and having fun since the gameplay is fun. Even with World of warcraft I was playing at a much higher resolution so yea its prob just I am not use to playing at 480p. O well, the controls make up for the poor graphics. Lol it will just make crysis look THAT much better when I get my new PC in a few months ha

Thanks for the help guys... but is it normal to have those two black bars on the side of the screen while I am playing re4? Its like the bars when you watch a movie.

Some games have no bars, other games have tiny bars, and other games have relatively bigger bars. RE4 and PES 2009 are the only games I can remember that have bars that big. Though they aren't THAT big. You are overreacting a little.

EDIT: You may want to turn down the sharpness on your TV. That may help with the jaggies.

It's the same resolution, I understand, but I've heard of people having problems where they have a component cable with the Wii set on 480i and it screws everything up.

Here we go again complaining about the Wii's graphics. I thought Satora Iwata said from Day 1 that the Revolution (codename for the Wii) was not going to focus on graphics and horsepower.

If graphics are that important to you, then get a PC, XBox360, and/or a PS3, and pick up RE5. No need to complain.

Ignorance..... Wii is stronger than the Xbox by 3 times + Xbox is stronger than GC = Wii is stronger than the GC WAY MORE than 1.5 times.

The biggest problem You will have with playing wii on an hdtv is scaling issues,as the display cant show the image at its 1:1 pixel resolution, without it being teeny weeny,so its scaled up,which introduces scaling artifacts,or uber-jaggies lol.On a crt sdtv re and other 480i/p games look pretty good even now(compare re4 to re5 for example, mainly improved lighting and higher res). But yeah, hdtvs do that to sdtv res content.
