Super Mario Sonic Galaxy! Woohoo!

"One of those guys..." The Mario, Zelda, and Metroid purist. I know those, the ones who will not buy anything else on the system. Garrett you seem interested in the blockbusters, which is why you have not bought a game since 2008. 2010 should be full of games ont he scale of RE4, hopefully you take attention to some of them because they look great.[QUOTE="thedude-"][QUOTE="bob_newman"] No he thinks Wii games aren't worth his time. But the real reason is that he really only cares about Zelda from Nintendo. Yeah he's one of those guys...garrett_duffman
actually, thats not necessarily true. I built (it's a strong word, not what i mean) a relationship with my Girlfriend of two years, starting with our common liking of the legend of zelda series. We beat all of the games by the 6 month mark in our relationship, and we've both wanted a new Zelda game since. There isnt anything other than zelda that it like zelda.
I do like me some mario, but galaxy was not my cup of tea. I preferred Sunshine over it, mainly because it was difficult.
The only reason why i bought RE4 is because i know that i like it and can play it over and over again.
I like games that last, which is why you will never hear my raving about no more heroes or madworld or the conduit or any of these mature titles for the wii. an eight-hour good game is not worth a buy for me. The godfather was an amazing game, I put 40 hours into that game, but there just wasnt enough replayability for me. It's not that I only pay attention to the big N's games, its just they usually give me the most bang for my buck, zelda especially. I just want a good game that will last, and personally i don't see a lot of that on the wii.
There is more to No More Heroes than hours of playing.Maybe Nintendo knows that they need some sort of gimmick to sell this game. The first one was very good and didn't sell all that great. The second one is going to be just more of the same stuff as the first...so where's the draw? I know, let's add Sonic!TheLordMagnusThe first one did sell very good.

No it didn't, it pretty much tanked
Mario Galaxy was only able to sell 8.5 million copies, that's only 2 million more units sold then last gen's version.
Last gen only had 21 million consoles while the Wii is over 67 million, that means in 44 million new users decided they didn't want anything to do with Mario Galaxy.
That's rough, Mario sold better then 1 out of 3 but on the Wii he barely makes it 1 out of every 8
Nintendo had high hopes that Mario would account for at least a quarter of all Wii's sold and it did sell well at the start but it didn't have any sort of legs.

Where over 44 million people did not buy it where last gen only 14 million passed?
Really? You think that's good?
I'd love to hear this, please explain how you think that's good. Also explain how Nintendo said they expected Mario to be in one out of every 4 Wii owner's hands and it's not even 1 out of every 8

Should I even bother, thats the real question......That would a very strange occurence. Then again, I have wished for a while now that Nintendo develop a Sonic game of sorts.

Wow. 8.5 million tanked? Nintendo needs to lower their sales standards lol. I'm sure that's up there with PS2's games which had a bigger userbase.[QUOTE="Jaysonguy"][QUOTE="thedude-"] The first one did sell very good.Theguy56

Nintendo projected it in 1 of 4 consoles, that would mean it would have sold 17 million by now
Instead it hasn't hit 9
Mario Galaxy did not sell anywhere near what Nintendo wanted
i hope this isn't true, i hate when other companies try to do something with another companies main stay character. it just wouldn't feel right, and i've always liked the rivalry between sonic and mario. i really do hope this isn't true.

They were projecting 1 in 4 for the first year of sales. The Wii had significantly fewer console owners than it does now. They hit their original target. As far as the numbers you have to see that the console's numbers growing 46 million and only grabbing 2 million of them isn't great right?

Again, you can't realistically expect a 2-year old game to sell even 1/5th of its first year sales, especially when you already have 1) another, more attractive Mario game on the market (NSMBWii), and 2) a sequel about to come out. It's bad business to rely on old product.
And look at it like this: after being on the market for 118 weeks, Galaxy is still pulling in 10,000+ sales weekly. Might not sound like much to you, but compare it to any other console title in its 118th week and you'll see how significant that really is.

Because the hardcore gamer will still pick up a Wii, the same hardcore gamer that purchased the 21 million Gamecubes.
Therefore, the same audience will still pick up a hardcore title, in this case... Mario Galaxy.
And 8.5 million for a first party title, regardless of how many installed base users is ALWAYS GOOD. The PS3 and 360 audience can't even combine to get 10 million copies of a AAA title on a title that is multiplatform.

Yes. I think that' good. Unless you can name me more than 8.5 million people, I will always think that's good.I guess anecdotal evidence is all the rage these days. Saying games sold bad by the number of people who did not buy it is an incorrect measure.
Super Mario Galaxy sold extremely well. Increasing its numbers by 2 million is a huge amount. Someone already pointed this out, but SMG sold at a faster rate, much faster. At the end of this generation who knows what it will have sold and it did all of this with competing against NSMBW and SMG2. Two other major Mario games to sell next to and its still selling more.
You do not seem to remember that the audience on GC was much more active than the audience on Wii. Nintendo already is aware of the lower amount of games casuals buy, but it is a downside Nintendo was willing to take for the huge benefits.
I guess it'd be kind of cool if it's true but, it'd also be pretty weird.
The only games Mario & Sonic are in together are Super Smash Bros Brawl, and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games/Winter Games. And those are more spin-off titles. I can't see them putting Sonic in one of Mario's main adventures.
Maybe Sonic could make a cameo appearance, but I definitly don't see him being playable. He runs too fast, most of the planets in Super Mario Galaxy are small and not really all that big, some are bigger then others but. And I'm sure it'll be more of the same in Super Mario Galaxy 2. I think it'd be hard to control Sonic if he was playable. Making him run that fast in small areas like that would equal bad controls imo.
Unless they make a planet specifically for Sonic. Make it bigger then any of the other planets so he actually has enough room to run around at least. I could see that working. Maybe you'd have to race Sonic, and Mario would get to use the Red Star power up so he could fly, but even then Mario wouldn't really be fast enough to keep with Sonic.
Or what if they make a new power up/suit for Mario in Super Mario Galaxy 2. Maybe Mario could merge together with the Millenium Star from Mario Party 3. He would combine with it to become Millenial Mario. His body would glow a Silver/Platinum color like the Millenium Star. He'd also wear a cape similar to the one from Super Mario World. It would allow him to fly instantly without having run and jump first, it would also increase his speed and attack power, he'd also be invincible and be able to stop in midair and hover. He could do dive bombs and spin attacks, and the effect of the power up/suit would last as long as he had coins. Once the coins run out, thepower up/suit would wear off. How else would Mario be able to keep up with Sonic?
Sorry I kinda strayed off topic. Millenial Mario VS Super Sonic, that'd be awesome :P
