The Conduit is being hailed as the first Wii-FPS to pull together what all these games only had pieces of, a complete FPS package made specifically for the Wii and its graphics, control, and online capabilities. Just as the TC stated when this thread was started, The Conduit is being created as the ideal starting block for how Wii FPS games should be made. It will be the foundation FPS games have needed on this system. From here, developers can start creating the Bioshocks, the Singularitys, the Darkness', and the Killzones with unique, Wii-based "twists" that the system lends itself so well to. That is the main reason there is any type of hype for this game at all. And it IS justified. For me, specifically, its that fact and the customization in the control scheme.

Very well said. You've just convinced me to buy and support the Conduit when it comes out. :)
But then comes the question why should someone that can plays a great amount of uniqe FPS games on the other systems play The Conduit?

Because those other shooters don't have something that the Conduit uses, IR pointer.

They might find they enjoy the Wiimote controls better, or at least more fun (making the way they play it unique... unless they've played other Wii FPS games). And who knows, maybe the story will actually be good enough to get them to try it.
That's all I can think of. If neither of those are good enough, well, that's that.

True, but then it won't be generic game anymore. If the story is good enough to set it apart from other games then that would be the reason to buy the game and thus the game isn't generic anymore because it has something unique that makes it worth a buy.Well, that's fine by me, I was never calling it "generic" anyway. :D

Red Steel wasn't bad, it was the control that was bad. It was the first of its kind, first FPS using IR control. It was rushed near the end of its development period because Ubisoft wanted to release it the same day as the Wii.
2 years later, IR controls have been perfected to the point where it surpasses the analog stick. The only control scheme that can match it is the keyboard and mouse.
The Conduit's only purpose is to show that there can be a great looking and playing FPS with a variety of online modes (which still need to be specified by HVS) and voice chat.
After the success of this game, more dev.s are going to make FPS's on Wii. This will encourage them to put effert into them so that they can match the new standards. Some are going to be overly generic, but some other are going to blow our minds.
I don't believe that developers are going to jump on board even if Conduit sells 3 million. They'll just assume it was a fluke and dismiss it. I do believe, however, that Call of Duty's sales will suffer as a direct result of The Conduit if the effort for the next CoD game is comparable to WaW.
I can't seak for everyone else, but I can say that if the controls do not match up to The Conduit, or if the graphics don't offer dynamic lighting and normal maps, or if the online modes are sub-par, or if the level of customization is excluded, or even if I have to go through the same old WW2 crap again, then Activision is NOT getting my money for the next CoD experience.
EDIT: And when I say this, I don't mean if they get the majority of this right that I'll buy. I mean they have to get ALL of it right. I had to settle for a sub-par WaW with controls that didn't match up to Metroid or MoHH2, and a gimped online mode with no zombies. I am not about to settle for less again.
