Whoever made that trailer likes grainy/old film filters too much :? I don't get why they'd do that - because the footage was kind of cool looking besides that.

They're trying to make it look like grindhouse cinema, I think.

Yeah, I could see them going for that.

The game is suppose to have a grindhouse look, certainly reminds me of L4D, were those white things will the bladed arms the vampires. It kind of looks like the vampires from Dusk till Dawn, overall that short clip was looking good, cant wait to see more.

Eh, I try to see what other people see in these videos, but I watch all the stuff that HVS comes out with, and it just doesn't really do anything for me. They definitely seem to be technically well-made, but I can't shake the feeling that they're missing the one critical thing for me in games, which is real heart. It's the same reason I've never liked Yngwie Malmsteen as a musician: his technique is incredible, but I just feel nothing at all when listening to it.

lol who? And I have no idea what you mean by heart, I don't think too many devs sweat blood and tears for thier games. They just try to make them as fun to play as possible and thats what games are for. I think people put too much stock in videogames as an art form when they are simply a method of entertainment. Some transcend the simple short spurts of fun, and become an experience but not too many pull that off and its kind of unfair to expect them to. I expect HVS to make a couple perhaps with alot of work, a trifector of solid fun titles and thats all I expect.

What do you mean no real heart? Have you seen any of the interviews? Can you expand on why you don't think HVS has heart?

I think you justlike Japanese gamesmuch more thanWestern games (I'm the complete opposite).

Funny, I get that feeling from Nintendo games. Regardless, I think this is more symptomatic of the genre. L4D and FPS games don't generally have "heart". And if you bring up Bioshock again I'm going to call hybrid on you.

I'll say it again... Maybe they're distinguishing between an average-looking game and a promising looking game. Someone who thinks The Conduit looks meh might think that this game looks fun. And people who think this game looks fun might think that their other game, Gladiator, looks terrible. I don't think the haters all think that HVS is pure crap.... I think they're just unimpressed by what they had offered until this point.

lol who?Sepewrath

This guy. People rave on and on about him because "OMG HE'S SO FAST AND TALENTED" but I just don't get the appeal.

And I have no idea what you mean by heart, I don't think too many devs sweat blood and tears for thier games. They just try to make them as fun to play as possible and thats what games are for. The problem I have with all of HVS' games is that they always feel like HVS is going "look what we can do!" Rather than going "here is this awesome idea for a game, now let's figure out what technologies we need to make it happen", it feels like they're going "here are the technologies we want to showcase, now let's figure out a game can we build in which to do that". Games like Bioshock, Okami, Metroid Prime 3 - those are all examples of games where everything felt very, very purposeful to me, in which everything was chosen to achieve the core idea of the game, in which the technologies and such like were all a means to that ultimate end, rather than the intended end itself. As a result, I can't shake the feeling that HVS' games, at least what we've seen of them thus far, seem ultimately more akin to extremely glorified, polished, and large tech demos or proofs of concept - ones that may provide ample entertainment even as they are, but ones nonetheless.

If other people find exactly what they're looking for in their games, all the more power to them, but I just don't see that spark of greatness present in what I've seen thus far. Maybe I'll change my tune when I get to play the game and get sucked right in, but right now, that's all I can really say. I mean, I'm sure they'll be enjoyable games in their own right, but as time goes on, I just can't dispel that nagging thought in the back of my head that nothing yet has truly made me sat up and take notice and think, "wow, this really looks like something special".

Call of Duty 4 was another FPS I felt had a good amount of heart. The scene showing the end of Sgt. Jackson's theater particularly struck a chord with me.

But yes, you're probably right - which is undoubtedly why the FPS genre in general usually doesn't appeal to me.

Oh, and I actually kinda agree that Nintendo games tend to have this as well, although some don't. That was one of the primary things I didn't like about Super Mario Galaxy, in fact.

I know what your mean, its like I said some games transcend past just simple entertainment, from what I seen of HVS' work so far, they wont make it into that exclusive club. But If I only had interest in games like that well I wouldn't play many games I mean so far the only games that I got that feeling from this gen has been Twilight Princess, Fallout 3, MGS 4, Metroid Prime 3, Bioshock, Call of Duty 4, Mario Galaxy and Assassins Creed. I wouldn't have much of a library if I shopped by those standards. Not saying that you do, but those were games that I was actually sorry to see end. I'm pretty sure I wont have the same feelings for this game or The Conduit but I think I will enjoy them simply as fun games. Your standards are too high Gabu :) stop being such an elitist and give the guys a chance lol.

Do you remember how The Conduit looked this time last year compared to now? This game is going to have more time that that on it, so it will be much improved by the time it comes out next year.

Do you remember how The Conduit looked this time last year compared to now? This game is going to have more time that that on it, so it will be much improved by the time it comes out next year.

Easy to forget this game already has so much time left in development when it already looks this promising.. 2010 can't come fast enough :(

[QUOTE="clicketyclick"]Minor characters like that tend to get squashed under flying houses in the opening act. Don't say I didn't warn you.GabuEx

This would be much better if they had more varied enemies. The same vampire over and over might get just a tad boring don't you think?

I don't even like FPS games and I thought that looked pretty cool. I guess my love for monsters beat out my dislike for FPS this time, hehe.Michael-Smith
You can always play the assasin with a sword.

Looks freaking sweet! My only complaint is the enemies in the game, they look like crap and not varied. I hope that changes in the future.

That right there, was nasty! Will keep my eye on this one, specially cause of it's co-op.
