Those games were all made after Microsoft bought Rare? Then there's hope after all! HUZZARA!:D Though I do feel kinda stupid now... Where's my sign?All Donkey Kong characters are owned by Nintendo. Diddy is a playable character in Mario Kart Double Dash and in other Mario titles post Rare sale. (Even Dixie was a playable character in Mario Baseball). So it is very likely they will be playable in SSBB. Another exmple is Krystal from Star Fox Adventures (Rare's creation), which later appeard in Nintendo games like Star Fox command.

As for Zelda characters in SSBB they should bring in their latest game costumes (already mentioned by others):
For Link:
 1st costume - His Green TP outfit thats already been confirmed
2nd costume - The blue tunic to be replaced by the Zora Armor
3rd costume - The red tunic to be replaced by the Magic Armor
4th costume - The black tunic to be replaced with Dark Link (from the look of TP)
For Zelda:
They should change her costume to her TP form (been previously stated) and they should incorporate some of her attacks from TP and give her a sword from TP(so she can have some melee attacks).
For Ganondorf:
They should have his new look from TP and have his nice new sword...and it would be nice for him to be able to change into Ganon.
As for Metroid characters in SSBB I'll only do 1 but I'll have a moveset with it:
Dark Samus! (I know it irks people but Dark Samus (DS) has enough moves to become her own character or at least as a costume):
(note: in MP2:E DS never really walks in the game only for short time in cinemas, so she will float around like Mewtwo, however if the player stops moving DS will land on her feet)
(blue flame signifies phazon damage and is much like the purple flames dealt by Mewtwo and Ganondorf in Melee but is blue instead, due to the fact that DS is nearly pure phazon majority of her attacks will leave a blue flame)
A button : Phazon Punch (standard melee punch)
Up + A : Phazon Burn (much like Samus's up + A flamethrower; blue flame)
Holding Up (while on ground)Â + A : Cannon Bash (hits the player with a different standard punch but if you hit the player with an exact hit (think Zelda's mid-air kick with the ball of her foot) on the point deals maximum dmg but if its off the point the attack is excedingly weak.
Down + A : Phazon Trip ( trips the opponent and sends them up)
Holding Down (while on ground) + A : Phazon Explosion (DS hits the ground in front of her with her cannon and creates an explosion where it hits and knocks the player up; blue flame)
Right/Left (player walks slowly on ground) + A: Phazon Kick (a standard kick that knocks the player away)
Right/Left (player runs quickly on ground) + A: Phazon Tackle (a standard tackle that deals decent dmg; blue flame)
Smash A : Phazon Smash (stronger version of the Phazon Punch but can be held to be charged; blue flame)
Mid-air + A: Phazon Air Kick (a kick that knocks the player away)
Mid-air +Â Left + A: Phazon Air Burn (similar to Phazon Burn but in the air; blue flame)
Mid-air + Right +  A: Phazon Air Back-Kick (a back kick that knocks the player away)
Mid-air + Down + A: Phazon Meteor ( a meteor smash thats performed in the air; blue flame)
B button : Scatter Shot ( similar to Samus's charge shot but shoots 5 projectiles; blue flame)
B button (charged) : Scatter Shot ( shoots 5 projectiles 1/2 the size samus's full charge shot and does 12% dmg each; blue flame)
Up + B : Phazon Fragmentation ( DS breaks up into smaller pieces and teleports to another locationd depending on the direction of the control stick, much like Zelda's Farore's* Wind teleports long distances but deals no dmg)
Down + B : Phazon Barrier ( DS creates a slow temporary wall around herself to be protected from all melee & projectile attacks and deals dmg to players within the range of the shield, cannot reflect attacks; blue flame)
Right/Left (player walks slowly on ground) + B: Phazon Shield (creates a temporary shield around DS which protects her from projectile attacks but makes her more vulnerable to melee attacks)
Smash B: Phazon Death Ball ( DS turns into her morphball form and starts moving about (similar to Yoshi Egg roll) dealing dmg to anyone it hits; blue flame)
Z button: Phazon Grab (Throws the player in different direction according to the direction of the control stick, can perform a wall grab; blue flame)
Air/Ground Dodges (DS breaks up into smaller pieces and teleports to another locationd depending on the direction of the control stick, for the ground dodge she just breaks up and then reforms after the dodge is performed)
And like Samus in SSBB if DS takes enough or a certain amount of damage she will change but unlike where samus gets quicker and weaker, DS will get slower and stronger (think final boss fight in MP2:E) to show that they do contrast from each other.
i wonder if they'll make one of snakes outfits raiden?
and samus without a suit could have a coustume of her in a bikini like in the first one! lol
I want to see a giant R.O.B as a new stage. Just imagine fighting on top of his moving arms and spinning tops. He could be a boss too, huh? Ha! Ha!
There's a lot of cool things I would like to see in SSMB, but I know it's too late for new ideas from us gamers if the game is supposed to come out this year. I still remember that rumor/idea of being able to take a digital photo and making it a user-created level. With the SD card slot, that seems very possible. I also wouldn't mind seeing my Mii character make an appearance as a fighter. (And then Kirby can transform into my head once he swallows me. Ha! Ha!)
I would like to see NO waluigi and I think we have enough Mario characters anyway. Bring on the big boss guys and rivals of the Nintendo universe!Optusnetbecause we have wario were more than likely going to have walaluigi regardless if we want him or not because their kinda of a pair....even though walaluigi doesen't have his own personal game...i think....but yes there should be more villains/rivals from the nintendo universe such as Dark Samus, Wolf O' Donnel, Vaati, and some characters from Fire Emblem...theres plenty of cool characters to choose from but what happens is what the developer want...sometimes their views can be somewhat dimmer than what gamers expect from their games...

I'd rather go with the reintroduction of character entrances...it makes each character so different...rather them bringing back trophies (I think trophies were just a filler) and as said before NEED MORE VILLAINS, LESS MARIO CHARACTERS theirs already too many...half or a little more were nothing but lame Mario & friends characters which leaves only about 12 to choose from and I only like using about 4 or 5 of those characters (LOZ, & FE characters)....
They need to add "cooler" characters to the game like the impossible to get FF characters or they could possibly add in Fierce Deity Link, Majora, Ganon, Dark Samus, Hunters, FE enemies such as the Black Knight, Wolf O' Donnel, (Dark Link costume for Link, and while I'm at it add the other TP costumes for Link to replace the Red, Blue, & Black tunics...and I wouldn't mind them ridding of the pink one)...
 Make more item characters (like the goombas) such as Space Pirates, Arwings (could fly around map & shoot for a set amount of time or till the match ends), F-Zero racers (they drive across the map hitting anyone in their path), have wireframes/or Shadow Links appear and attack players randomly, and what the heck even those ghost rats in TP that slow you down...
yes they also need bigger maps around like Hyrule Temple size ones, they need to make a vast sized Metroid maps instead of those tiny ones...they should add forests or swamps or something for Metroid... possibly having FE having their own maps (the castle in the trailer could be it), and if they were to make more Mario maps at least have some tunnels because those were fun in SSB.
They should make stock matches default not timed matches because i hate having to change the settings every time i play to set it to stock...they should add in a metal mode or customizable health in Stamina Mode, and make some more modes like break the targets, or bring back the platforms, and increase the diversity of the survival mode....
This has been said but during adventure mode they should have special characters as the mid-bosses and final bosses during your run through which they should be related to the character your using such as....for Link your half-way through and you have to fight Dark Link who is set on a higher difficulty than the one your playing on, and then for the final battle instead of fighting the Master/Crazy hand you fight Ganon and so forth with the other characters....
Instead of a trophy collection as mentioned beforehand there should be a shop where you can buy additional costumes, features, items to use in matches, and possibly to unlock different modes when you collect a certain amount of money...say if you had about 500 (rough count could be lot less)Â coins you could buy Sound Test, Customize Item appearance, Random Map settings, or buy special costumes for characters...
stages:
maybe some really big stages, not like pokefloats or that stuff, i mean like hyrule temple or something like that. oh and final destination must be there.
characters:
maybe some kingdom hearts characters or saint seiya characters, but, like i said before, i think it´s impossible that any of those characters will get in SSBB.
other features
maybe some special melee mode where you can play with gravity, oh and in stamina mode, you get to choose how many stamina will the characters have. i also would like to see the entrance of the characters that had super smash bros (the 64 one) thats better than every character appearing by the same way.LuIsSiUl

IMO, let's broaden the SSB idea and give birth to a new brawl type game which allows characters from all famous franchises to come together in all out mayhem.
Of course, said game would have to be online with its carrot on a stick rewarding system which all know and love.
Anyways, back to reality. A lot of great suggestions in this thread, I do agree with the Sonic & Bomberman as playable characters, that idea is topnotch. Personally, I’d go with Earth Worm Jim seeing how growing up, him aside from Mario, was one of my many favorite heroes’ and May I add, videogame(s).
This has been touched on a lot so I will agree, too whatever SSB spawns now or in the future, let’s hope they make online amazing. And be rid of the friend code system >_>. AMI’RITE?

although im pretty sure Nintendo announced that this won't happen... but they need to make a HUGE list of playable characters for this game. unlike SSB or SSBM, where you have the main character(s) representing each franchise (Fox/Falco for Star Fox, Captain Falcon for F-Zero)... almost all characters in each franchise should be in the game (excluding the Pokemon franchise... which reminds me, Ash needs to be a playable character!!!). this would probably make balancing the game very difficult... but man would SSBB be the king of all fighters.c0mplex
