More emphasis on cut scenes. Voices a must, and yes orchestrated music.
I have to say, i was somewhat dissapointed with TP. I totaly enjoyed majoras mask. That was a refreshing game.
Something dark would be sweet. Darker than Twilight Princess.

Voice acting? Really?
Agree with the orchestrated music. ;)
Well just adding voice acting for every other character other than link would be an amazing change.
Like in Metroid Prime 3? I guess voice acting only in certain cutscenes would be cool.
I don't know, they could go many steps.
However, I don't like the voice acting thing because that's what Zelda has come to be famous for. Link hardly ever talks, he's a silent protagonist. I think if they gave him actual speaking roles, it'd take away his unique trait he's carried for a long time.
All Zelda needs to do to get a ten is keep the same formula as is predecessors and make the protagonist a guilty-conscienced Serbian immigrant.
Joking aside, the Zelda series has faced so much criticism lately simply because of the complete lack of innovation or originality in the recent games. Honestly, the franchise has (with a few exceptions) evolved little since the release of Ocarina of Time, a game that is so widely praised because of its innovative features. The Zelda series should go in a new direction. Nintendo must do what they must to separate the next game from every other title in the series while still including the franchise's fundamental elements, much like what was done with Mario Galaxy.
Here's a thought. why not make it a Zelda game that deviates from the standard plot.
Ocarina of Time, Link to the Past, and Twilight Princess followed the same formula.
Beat x number of dungeons and get x items.
Plot twist --- something happens.
Beat y more dungeons and get y more special items.
Final boss
I would love for a zelda game where this is not the case.
thats why everyone says voice acting like MP3 e.g. Samus was silent the whole gameDbzaol9
Maybe because every character besides Samus had voice acting. For the new Zelda, they could give Link a voice for all I care. Just as long as it's quality writing with quality voice acting. I think it's time to give up some of the Zelda staples like Link being left handed. I'm guessing just as in the wii port of TP, he'll be right handed in this new one.
anyone remember that futuristic Zelda april fool's prank, i thought that was a pretty cool concept, which would take Zelda in a new fresh direction, but i think it would be a big risk like the WW art style was, though i liked it...
I think the prank video had some like laser bow and he rode a motorcycle called epona, and the temples and world was very high tech and stuff. I don';t remember anything else, but i think this would be interesting for a zelda game
why does everyone want change in the series? sure i agree with harder bosses, better items or at least more uses for em, but everything else, why? this series hasent done anything new or different since N64 where it went 3D and it has worked great. its doing good staying like it has, sure you expect some things but thats just zelda, its tried and true and it remains fun.
now i also agree about more sidequests, however, i definetely dont want a time restriction like MM, sure maybe a clock but not one so tied into the story.
and voice acting? i can understand how it would be cool like MP3 style but even giving zelda or ganon a new voice could screw things up.
so here's what i want:
more of the same
cool dungeons
cool items with many uses and cool puzzles to solve with them
higher difficulty, something around WW at very most like ALttP
no voice acting
more side quests
and of course, cutscenes like TP, they really helped move the story along
agree or disagree i dont really care, but id hate to see my favorite series take a risk and it fail, whatever they do, i hope they are smart about it, thats all im asking

My biggest problem with it is the lack of change. They introduced some awesome new features in the WW, but then stripped TP of all them and put us back ten years. There is no excuse for Zelda not to have voice acting, not only does it help with believable it also helps immerse in the story and characters. Orchestrated music is also a must, Nintendo showed they could do it with fabulous results with Super Mario Galaxy. Now it's time for them to up it even higher. Orchestrated music and voice acting would open up a new level of storytelling that all of its predecessors couldn't even dream of. That and Nintendo could actually hire professional screen writers to give it a truly cinemnatic feel with great dialogue. Another huge problem with Zelda is that the games just don't move that fluidly especially TP where after the fifth dungeon just had you going from dungeon to dungeon to dungeon. Combat is another major issue, it takes no skill what so ever beat enemies. All you have to do is mash down A and everything on the screen dies. Combat needs a complete refinement to make to both accessible to casuals and the hardcore, similar to what the big N did with SMG. On top the poor combat comes the poor Enemy AI. Seriously, this is 2008. We should have enemies moving in packs, ambushing, and an Auto AI Balance. Auto AI Balance for the uninitated simply means that is Link keeps attacking enemys at close range with his sword, the AAIB kicks in and has the enemys move back and start firing arrows instead of just running up to Link with little to no defense. Zelda also needs to have different difficulty settings, I'm tired of only going through the game and die like 3 times. Enemies need to take more life than a quarter of a heart. They need to also put the guy who came up MM's sidequests back on duty for this one. This is what I believe the new Zelda needs.
Joking aside, the Zelda series has faced so much criticism lately simply because of the complete lack of innovation or originality in the recent games. Exactly what I think too, well said. I forget who said it, but someone in the development team did say that the next Zelda game will be completely different and it should be something Zeldaish just with different gameplay (possibly a Wii controller plus balance board?)

The main reason why people want change is because of what the name of this topic is called; Zelda getting a 10 again. To do so, it CANNOT stay the same and must evolve into something else but stay inherently 'Zelda' at the same time. More of the same I can guarantee you will not get Zelda a 10, it will get it 8's. You might think that this is fine as long as it is giving you what you want from it, but in my opinion Zelda IS Nintendo's pinnacle in gaming development. The franchise stands for why someone can buy a Nintendo console and know they are getting the best in innovative gaming. Ocarina of Time was Zelda in 3D which made it completely new, but now wii have a new way to play so I think Nintendo should take advantage of that and perfect it with Zelda.

i completely understand that, we have a new way to play and thats cool. but just because we changed "how" we play, doesnt mean we have to change "what" we play.
the two biggest complaints im hearing are 1. no voice acting and 2. needs more story (transition to dungeons and what not)so im thinking voice acting could be amazing but could also ruin the experience, they need to be smart with who they choose to have a voice. secondly, i find the story fine, it could be more epic, im for that, but maybe we could solve this transition problem by maybe adding dungeons like Okami? where you think you might be in a dungeon until you find a boss that proves you actually are (or are not) i figure if Okami was influenced by Zelda, couldn't it work both ways?
Another thing, you guys make it sound SO easy to evolve Zelda. It's extremely tough to take a nearly perfect game and improve it with new innovations. First thing they would need to do is probably take Zelda in a different art direction, new level designs, and character models need to change a bit. Graphics have to be revamped, max hardcore. Then you guys will be like, "Ooooh, la la."Elann2008
The thing is Zelda isn't anywhere close to being perfect. That and they kept with the same formula for nearing 15 years. To much of a good thing can easily turn into a bad thing. TP proves this by the huge negative responses toward it from the series fans. I'm not saying that it wasn't good and not a lot of people didn't dig it, it's just that not only has the series failed to evolve, it devolved from WW to TP. It was in one sense of the word a bad game, it just couldn't stand up to that golden standard Zelda games are known for.
1- Orchestrated soundtrack. This one is a must.
2- It should be a lot more combat oriented. Also, instead of using waggles to attack, they should use the No More Heroes formula and keep waggles for finishing moves.
3- A little less puzzle solving and, as I said, more fights.
4- Towns should be bigger. I'm thinking Baldur's Gate/Planescape: Torment/Neverwinter Nights kind of big; as well as more alive. People should be doing stuff, have lives, personalities, friends, enemies, goals, and it should show. If a certain NPC doesn't like another NPC --let's call him/her NPC2-- and you help NPC2 in some way, said NPC should be able to find out, and the way he treats you should change accordingly.
5- Make the overall vibe a little darker, but not because the world is surrounded by darkness/twilight. NPCs and Link himself should have a little bit of a dark side. Instead of Link being the nicest kid in town, he could be a thief who progressively finds himself with no other choice but to put on a green outfit and save the world.
6- I don't see anything in terms of graphics that should be improved too much. Twilight Princess' horizons did look kind of weird, but they should be able to fix it rather effortlessly, considering that it was a Gamecube game. If they go back to cell shading, I wouldn't complain. Whatever it takes to get rid of weird horizons/skies and stuff like that. Link looked perfect on Twilight Princess, as well as most NPCs.
I just have to throw this in:
Ugh, NO TO VOICE ACTING!
Voice acting is NOT a must, and voice acting can really diminish an experience if done improperly.
Characters like Link especially should never be given a voice, you'd disappoint a lot of people (not that Link talks..)
Plus, there's just too much dialogue in these games, they'd waste a lot of space with it I bet. rexCo
What are you talking about? If they could fit TP onto 1 GC mini disc, I'm sure eight gigs is enough. Metal Gear Solid 2 had like 10 hours of cutscenes with tons of dialogue and it didn't even take up like four gigs. Oblivion which had voice acting for every NPC in the game couldn't even fill up an entire disk. Besides Zelda barely has any dialogue compared to most games esp. RPGs.

Voice acting and needs more story, the two common complaints your hearing (and may I add my own, orchestrated music) are just the natural evolution that almost all games are having, even FFIV for the DS has full voice acting. Speaking of which, Final Fantasy X made the jump to voice acting in 2001 or so, did this effect the impact of Final Fantasy games? Not at all, it was just where the industry was going. Nintendo has been tapping the gas in this series for too long and needs to put the pedal to the metal and catch up and surpass the competition! Well, they have for the casual gamers, but are luke warm when it comes to the hardcore gamers.
As for your main point with solving the the transition problem by adding dungeons in the way Okami is done might be a way to do it, but unfortunately I haven't played Okami yet but planning to. Still, to get a 10 you need to be innovative with the hardware that is given to you, so in Zelda's case your more then likely going to need to find a way to use the Wii remote. Fishing in TP was one of the best motion control experiences yet on the Wii, I just want more of THAT kind of stuff for the next Zelda.
yep i can understand all of that, although FFX is a bad example. FFX was the first we ever heard of Yuna or Tidus and the crew. we didnt have time to form our opinion in our heads or what we thought that there personalities were. with link and his crew, we've had 15 years (about?) to make our own idea of what he would sound like and the rest too, and i can assure you that everyones isnt the same.
im all for voice acting, but not with series' that havent done it before, a rare exception (ill say it again) was with MP3, and if Zelda could pull that off then more power to em.

Meh, they say that but we'll see. I think it could really enhance the experience, esp. if they have a good script and voice actors. If it doesn't end up having voice acting, no big deal. Like l said, Zelda's usually don't have that much dialogue so it's not like a discomfort.

Good points about FFX and now that I see your post I completely agree, however, in FFVII: Advent Children, Cloud, Sephiroth, etc. we're given a voice as well when the original game was only text (and let's be honest, here there were more lines in FFVII then all Zelda games combined). The japanese voices were flawless, but in the english translation, Cloud was a little too juvenile sounding like he's 15 when he is supposed to be 21. However, Sephiroth was done excellently. The thing is, Nintendo HAS to take a risk on Link's voice and everyone else in the Zelda universe just like Square Enix did, it's just an expected evolvement for any series now. For god's sake, Mario never speaks in his games or ever has a NEED to and he said at the end of Mario Galaxy "welcome to galaxy!" or something.
We need a voice like Link's that will be similar to the grunts he's been doing since 1998, that's all we need
I'm still a fan of how the game plays, now but what could Retro Studios do for the Zelda Franchise? I mean there is a FPS in the game with the sling shot, bow, hook shoot, and fishing pole. I was skeptical when I first seen Metriod Prime was a FPS, but hay that game was great and scored a 9.7 on GameSpot.
If there was a Zelda FPS-esque game it could play like Elder Scrolls 4 and could even use the Havok engine since SSBB uses it we know it can run on the Wii.
