What if Link was Asian...

No, just kidding. Voice acting and some more sidequests would be good, but I wouldn't want to see Nintendo try to be innovative and end up destroying the Zelda series.

Majora's Mask was a great game for the sidequests. Not only were they challenging and exciting, but were also plentiful and often yielded rewards far more interesting than those useless heart containers. Not to suggests that the next Zelda's sidequests should undermine the main quest, but more quests akin to those of MMwould certainly add to the experience.

I think that everyone here will agree with me that defending an isolated farm from alien invaders is a much more appealing than the idea of collecting bugs for some ugly little girl.

Emmenite7

especially when you figure out you can play the inverted song of time to slow the aliens down or the double song of time to give the aliens crack. the former is recommended.

If they make something more mature and innovative, like they did back ago with Majora's Mask. I would like to see the story based in the Hylian Wars.

More side-quests - Make it like oblivion, but not as extensive, intense, or serious. Make them a challenge. OK so nothing at all like Oblivion.

Harder Dungeons

Better fighting controls

Longer story

As long as TP (if not longer)

More Difficult

Less linear

More emphasis on Wii controls

Orchestrated music

Great Wii graphics

use of online (for example, real time weather or updates)

I don't know why everybody is so concerned about story... I like how the Zelda stories are.

On the surface they seem very simple and repetitive, but when you start to piece the story together it gets more complex.

Youre right, Zelda could do just fine the way it is now... But it wouldnt be the end of the world if nintendo added more plot twists and emotion to it.

If Nintendo would use a dual layer disc, they could include atleast 5 more temples plus massive amounts of side quests! C'mon Nintendo, give the fans a Zelda game thats even better than OoT.-Sigil-

Definitely harder boss battles. In TP most of the bosses were taken out in about 5-10 minutes. A boss should take MUCH longer than that. They need to have more than 3 different attacks. Better AI and not just using one or two weapons to kill it, it should take your whole arsenal. Also, Ganon, although relatively difficult in comparison to the other bosses, was easy. I let him get up and hit me a few times to keep the battle going and have some 'fun." And the game became a chore near the end. I just didn't have any incentive to keep playing, but i forced myself to beat it. A game shouldn't be a chore, it should be fun.

Haha thanks... I'm a Zelda crack addict, so I'm kind of strongly opinionated, but it's good to know I'm not alone. :)

They shouldn't be copying people- that's not how Zelda works. Zelda doesn't copy. People copy Zelda, and tend to end up with lousy results, aside from Okami. Not sure why. Maybe it's because Zelda games are so well-balanced- puzzles, battle and intuitive uses for items that change up your gameplay quite often.

I loved Twilight Princess because it honored one of the best and added some new gameplay elements that were awesome to me. Using a sword on horseback, the wolf itself (if overused a bit) was at least new and unique, Midna being absolutely amazing... Has anyone noticed a lot of the emotion in a Zelda game comes from your helper? Probably because they're talking in your ear all the time... But really. Sahasrahla, Kaepora GAYbora, Navi, Tatl, the Maku Tree(s), the King of Red Lions, Ezlo, Midna, Ciela... They all bring something fun to the table, with the possible exception of the stupid owl. Plus, since Link doesn't talk, they talk for him.

So a good helper's important, but they've already got that down. Otherwise, modernize and innovate with controls- we've been using the same two Zelda control schemes for a while. Phantom Hourglass was the first to switch it up, and it turned out pretty well, huh?

As for less linearity, I agree. All the Zelda games since about the Oracles or maybe Wind Waker feel like they kind of lead you through the game, holding your hand, with maybe one or two exceptions per game.

I'm fine with Zelda stories how they are, because they're fun to get into, even if you don't necessarily have to. Metroid Prime games and Super Mario Galaxy did the same thing to an even greater extent. In Prime you didn't even have to read your logbook, but you could if you wanted. In Galaxy, no one's making you go to the library for storytime, but it tells you a lot about Rosalina, and gives a lot more depth to the game. Zelda could do something like this if they want. Majora's Mask did, especially with Anju and Kafei. They found the right depth with Link, Midna, Zant, Ilia and Colin in Twilight Princess. Not so much with Zelda and Ganondorf. So they've gotten deep enough but they need to expand that to all the characters. See what I mean? Make them all more memorable, not just five of them, and the whole game will be more memorable.

I'm thinking the next will be awesome regardless, because Miyamoto will probably have a big say in the game, just like he did with Super Mario Galaxy. Aonuma's not bad by any stretch, but it's Miyamoto that can avoid the overused ideas (the wolf, Temple of the Ocean King, etc.), and produce a title that's perfect or close to it. A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time and Galaxy all come to mind. I think with a tiny bit of guidance from Miyamoto, Aonuma could become the next Miyamoto, for that matter. The director of Galaxy could have that potential too, though. Or both! :)

I think Nintendo hears our pleas. They've got it covered.

I think what they missed is that we didn't want Ocarina of Time with updated graphics. Which is basically what Twilight Princess was, plus horseback controls, the Twili/ Twilight Realm and like three items. We want a game that feels like Ocarina of Time because it's just as innovative.

And the Wii can very easily do that. Wii's graphics are highly underrated (see Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and The Conduit), so that should be easy for the first truly Wii-exclusive Zelda.

Music should be orchestrated, and it looks like Nintendo figured that out before making Super Mario Galaxy, so we'll be ok there.

I think voice acting is unnecessary (again, see Super Mario Galaxy), but if done like Prime 3, could improve the experience. So long as Link doesn't talk. He's named Link to connect the player to being a hero. Many would be turned off by him talking, and that's part of what makes Zelda so appealing: everyone can feel like they are Link. Girls don't seem to mind that he's a guy, even. Phantom Hourglass was highly appealing to everyone, very noticeably.

I agree, there does need to be a much larger focus on plot. And the cutscenes could be improved with voice acting, so it's win-win. It's noticeable that they add the plot in after making the game, so I think they should (and could) incorporate much more plot without much difficulty.

Make the game huge and interactive, too. I mean we can have more than like three towns... And Twilight Princess felt big enough, but very empty. Except I'd prefer to have a lot less bridges, because it didn't feel very realistic that there were a bunch of blob fields, and then little lines connecting the blobs on the map. How about one big blob? Or even just like three blobs...

By interactive, I mean like Elder Scrolls, yeah. Many sidequests, more to do than collect heart pieces outside dungeons, and character development for lots of people. Not just Link, his helper (Midna/ Navi/ Tatl/ King of Red Lions, etc.), Zelda, and a bad guy (usually Ganondorf). The only people who weren't one of those four in Twilight Princess that were really developed, to me, were Ilia and Colin.

The controls could be revolutionary, if they do on the Wii what they did on the DS with Phantom Hourglass. And I'm certain that they will, because again, Link is aptly named.

I like long stories too, so I'm hoping for one of those. In other words, more of everything, but it should be changed up a lot.

With this plot focus they should have more plot twists and, again, more character development.

And generally, what they need to focus on is putting in new elements without causing a flaw. Look at all the games since Ocarina of Time for this. Majora's Mask had too short a story because it was rushed anyway and was too focused on sidequests imo. The Oracle games just plain came out too late for GBC for their own good, and didn't really innovate outside of the Rod of Seasons and Harp of Ages, and maybe seeds and rings. Four Swords was too short, and I hate that the Four Swords games only have you keep one item at a time anyway.

Now we hit Wind Waker. Wind Waker was actually incredibly good. But again, some of the things it added in caused problems. The sea was a great way to shake things up, but it became tiresome, since islands were so far apart, and they made us go on a collection quest at the end, making the problem more blatant. Plus, even though the sneaky controls were improved a lot, they were overused. In the same way they overused exploring a far-too-large world, they overused the sneaking with the Forsaken Fortress, a level I personally despise the first time through.

Four Swords Adventures was both too long and too boring because the characters don't really progress. You don't keep Heart Containers, although that's sensible, but you don't keep items either. Minish Cap used the shrinking and growing system extremely well, actually. Its biggest issue was that it was short, if sweet. And it got pretty insanely hard near the end.

Twilight Princess. It really did a great job in many areas, but the beginning's pacing was pretty lousy. It was slow, then really fast, then slow again, more than once. The wolf controls were fine, but there isn't nearly as much depth to them as normal Link's controls, so they too were OVERUSED.

And now the game with more overused ideas than any other: Phantom Hourglass. The Temple of the Ocean King, of course, is what I'm talking about. The exploration and size of the game itself were immensely improved. I loved that they fixed that mistake, and added in brilliant touch screen control. It was still one of the most innovative Zeldas we've had in a long time. And the normal levels were actually really good, if a tad short. But the Temple of the Ocean King just sucked fun from the game like crazy, especially by the fourth and fifth times. It was a sneaky part of the game, just like the Forsaken Fortress from Wind Waker. You'd think devs would've noticed by now that sneaky stuff is rarely ever fun. Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid and such are different stories. I'm talking about in action-adventure games. It's not what they were designed for, so don't do it!

So improve on everything, shake things up, make it deeper, make controls as innovative as Phantom Hourglass's, and heck, make it first person if you like. Just don't overuse ideas. And I'd rather the game didn't move ahead in time. Like, Zelda's not meant for guns. Metroid is meant for guns. Halo, Medal of Honor and Call of Duty are meant for guns. It would end up making Zelda less original to become futuristic and full of guns. Maybe more magic would be a good innovation. You realize we haven't had magic in a Zelda game since Wind Waker?

Keep making innovations, enough to the point that it doesn't overuse ideas. Like Ocarina of Time. Which is the entire idea, just... Modernized.

DannyRice

LMAO! This post reminded me sooo much of me and a few of my friends when wii have our zelda arguments.

You my friend, have a vision of a perfect Zelda.

Hell yeah. Im just dreading the wait. We waited for TP for what? 4 years? Maybe another 2-3 for another new one considering its been in developement since TP launch, maybe 4-5 if its being developed on a Dual Layer DVD.

I really dont care if we have a long wait, BUT only as long as nintendo releases regular updates on the game, and not just keeping us in the dark.

If they do make another Zelda, I'm sure it will be great. For me, Twilight Princess was a near perfect, not an 8.9 that Gamespot gave it. If Nintendo can keep up their steam, I'm sure we'll see another perfect Zelda in the years to come.

It would be pretty cool in MY opinion if it could be multiplayer like 4 swords except have the same graphics and gameplay as twilight princess. As example an idea I was working on is having being able to have different characters fighting along-side eachother using dual attacks and being able to use items like magnet boots to cling to metal enemies and tear them apart. Being Ganondorf would be cool too. Side quests and storylines would be cool also. I don't see why Zelda always gets kidnapped anyways... It's called the Legend of ZELDA for a reason you know... If she's just gonna get kidnapped in every game it should be called the Legend of Link or something. At least Mario games dont have the name of Super Peach Galaxy or something stupid like that. Maybe Zelda should travel with you this time and teach you magic attacks. The only time she ever fought besides using that dumb light arrow she randomly uses out of nowhere was in Super Smash Bros. , and that doesn't have ANYTHING to do with the Zelda timeline. but then again none of the other games relate to each other so you might as well not call it a timeline at all you know?! WiFi multiplayer would be cool also and im not talking about stupid minigames that nobody cares about, im talking about CoOp through the story.

They should have a two player battle mode that you can do over Nintendo WFC like in Phantom Hourglass, except make it fair and impossible to CHEAT. Maybe sort of like Brawl but just one on one straight dueling. No special items or final smashes.

The series is definently dying. The games that keep coming out don't have that great of a story or any unique feature that stands out. Its always the same formula that they use. 3 items, trifoce, kill gannondorf once again.

Flash_Virus

This is off topic cause it's DS, but Phantom Hourglass was new and different. It wasn't really like Windwaker. The main villain was not Ganondorf, it was Bellum. There was no triforce involved, and it had a pretty good story and humorous new characters. It had some new gameplay ideas and awesome new bosses, and if they had been harder, this game would have gotten a 10 from me. If Nintendo can make a Zelda for Wii that is as new and innovative as PH is for DS, it will keep the series going. No doubt.

Ganondorf should win at least once, get to kill and take over the world and stuff and have that lead to the flood. or maybe another time travel game with about 200 years of difference between each world.

That doesn't sound too bad. Being able to download new weapons (not vital weapons, just playing around weapons) would be amazing.

Before the Wii or TP was out, Reggie once said (an example for online) you'd be able to download new dungeons for TP. Hopefully for the new Zelda, they'll live up to that idea along with downloadable weapons.

personally i'd like to have a game that follows the story of the war breaking out in hyrule where ganondorf led an army and took the throne (this is speculated to happen shortly aft OoT) although a "link" wouldn't be present unless they used the link from OoT because he only manifests every hundred years or something

I think it would be better if it was totally new. They can stay true to zelda, but not do the exact formula, they could take the best parts from the previous games and make one game with all of those things, also take the bad and exclude that.

Have

  • Large expansive open-world with multiple continents and a good way to traverse them such as the horse and a glider in stead of the boat
  • Magic bar and magic spells
  • Upgradable epquiptment Gauntlets, tunics, swords, boots, etc.
  • Bring back all races Dekus, zora's, Gorons, bird people
  • More side-quests
  • Horseback combat
  • Good sword mechanics
  • More sensitive wii-mote controls (link swings sword the way you swing controller)
  • new last boss, give Gannon a one game rest
  • Bring back Link playing an instrument such as flute from Alttp or Ocarina or even a new instrument would be cool but bring back songs with powers
  • Effect masks from MM like Bunny-hood and stone mask and The transforming mask but have one for every race like Deku, Goron, Zora, Bird-person, stalchild, etc.
  • Clawshots replace hook-shot permanently
  • Keep the amount of voice acting That's in there. have most of the Dialogue be text.
  • HUGELY long one player quest like 45+ hours.

Lose

  • No River Zora's
  • No more parallel worlds
  • No paying to advance in the game like Koko the monkey in dark world in Alttp
  • No time limits to beat the game
  • No annoying sound effect like Midna's laugh in the wii-mote. Just about drove me freaking insane

Those are some great ideas! If they made a Zelda with all those things and it cost $100, I would still buy it.

I think they should spend years, decades, or even centuries creating the most beautiful, most polished, and most ambitious title ever created. Surely by the time that the game could not possibly get any better, somebody will have invented a time machine which Nintendo could use to market, distribute, and release the completed game by tomorrow's time.

I think that everyone here will agree with me that defending an isolated farm from alien invaders is a much more appealing than the idea of collecting bugs for some ugly little girl.

[QUOTE="Makedonijo"]The next Zelda on Wii will be a 10 if....... It is more like GTA IVMakedonijo

Please do not say that Zelda should copy other games. That would COMPLETELY ruin it.

it was a joke lol because GTA IV is one of the only games to get a perfect score

True, but... You know Ocarina of Time got a perfect score, right?

I like a lot of these ideas. But it kind of sounds like the same old thing, just the best stuff mixed together... That's not bad by any stretch, but Zelda does need some innovation... Up until Phantom Hourglass, we'd been using the same 2-D control scheme since 1987 and the same 3-D one since 1998.

I think we need a new control set-up, especially with a system as ambitious as the Wii, don't you?

Again, the ideas on there are great... Although if there was good voice acting from everybody (except Link, who should stick with the grunts), I wouldn't complain- it'd be a cool new feature, and it'd keep the pace going.

Transformation masks aren't a bad idea, but Majora's Mask already used it... I don't know they could, but so long as they changed it somehow or had more innovations so it wasn't the main point.

OMG what if you conducted the Wind Waker with the Wii-mote? Or used any instrument like that... Just saying, that would be pretty cool if they did bring back music. I wouldn't complain, but again it can't be the whole point. New elements need to be in there...

Yes, total win! 45+ hour game, for sure. And no paying to advance the game, I agree there too... That's been in way too many Zelda games, and it's stupid.

Ok check this out...

Ganondorf takes over Hyrule and Zelda somehow ends up on the run with Link, having barely escaped the castle. You are being hunted, as Ganondorf obviously wants to capure Zelda, and avoiding detection as you travel through Hyrule becomes a key gameplay mechanic. Ganondorf became super powerful by tapping some yet-unseen ancient power (maybe something that makes him like Link with fierce diety mask in MM). Link and Zelda face the dual challenge of accruing enough power to challenge Ganondorf while freeing enough towns through subversion and force to make a resistance to Ganondorf's armies. I'm seeing a marriage of the classic Zelda dungeons, puzzles, item collecting, and the re-introduction of magic with online co-op taking control of Link and Zelda and some large-scale battles as they try to retake Hyrule as well as the secrecy mechanic I mentioned earlier. Full cinematic voice acting (I'm ok with Link speaking) and an orchestral score are also musts. Finally, this game needs less minion bashing. Link will be able to overpower many guards, but it should take finess, like with iron giants or dark link, not just button mashing.

While I loved TP and OoT is my favorite game of all time, the next Zelda game needs to respect its roots but introduce something new to the Zelda universe.

I agree with the idea that Zelda should change--not because there's anything wrong with it, but because the last game, Twilight Princess, was a completely "mature" title, in the sense that it felt like the culmination of the modern, 3D Zeldas. If you keep going like that, I suspect the games will start to seem like "The continuing adventures of Twilight Princess" and not like major titles in and of themselves. While I'm totally fine with another Majora's Mask-like follow-up, I think the next major Zelda game should take the series to the first person perspective, like Metroid Prime. It would work better with the Wii remote and would bring the player more into Link's shoes than ever. Plus you wouldn't have to look at Link all the time, which is starting to get annoying. I mean, if Link is a silent character who stands in for the player's own imagination, why not make him more connected with the player. A lot of Twilight Princess already takes place in the first person (Arrows, hookshot, telescope) so why keep with all the switching of perspective. The Legend of Zelda is already such an "internal" game, relying on thought, so I think it could work in the first person. Anyway, first person sword-fighting is cool, no matter all the trash people talk about Red Steel.

Voice acting for every character EXCEPT Link would be epic, and real hard bosses with plot twists in the story would give it a 10

I just hope that it is going to continue being Zelda. They should not change it too much, of course there should be new actions and cool dungeons. Hope that it's GREAT.

Storywise- Link all of the previous parallel universes for one epic story. Like some new link discovers the alternate universes and has to go through them. Or it is revealed that link and ganondorf are always the same good vs. evil entity and link gets rid of him for good.. I dunno, something like that.

what zelda needs is more sidequests ,hardest bosses, more puzzles, more items.
