How in the world do you get Japanese artstile from that picture? It looks like a normal human being to me.
I mean, if the guy had a giant sword, long flowing hair, with large eyes... I could understand your point. This gentleman doesn't even come close to resembling a Final Fantasy character, and that's as Japanese as you can get imo
I hope Team Ninja and Nintendo make this game as good as Metroid Prime.
Eraphiron
The two games will be practically incomparable. The Prime spin-offs are first-person shooters, and this will be a 2.5D sidescrolling platformer/shooter. But if you mean review scores, I'm hoping it will live up to Prime :).

lol I was wondering the same thing, I'm thinking their not exactly sure what a Japanese style is.Press release about M:OM:
* Metroid™: Other M, the incredible new Metroid game developed for Wii through a collaboration by Nintendo and the world-renowned Team Ninja, launches June 27. The game looks at the cIassic franchise from a new perspective: While much of the game is reminiscent of 2-D side-scrollers, players can switch the perspective into 3-D at any time as they explore the twisting passages of a derelict space station and delve deep into a cinematic, never-before-told story of bounty hunter Samus Aran's past. This new approach uses a new control scheme in which players use the Wii Remote™ controller held sideways to battle enemies and navigate the expansive, gorgeous environments in cIassic Metroid fashion, then aim at the screen with the Wii Remote pointer to blast foes in first-person and hunt the world for clues and hidden passages.
And new screens. Bland environments if you ask me.
Edit: But looking at the Health Bar and Missle count, it is just the begining of the game. Hopefully it won't all look like that.

from what i got, you play it in a 2D, third person styIe, and with the press of a button (i'm guessing the A button, since you need to be able to use the +pad when you press the buttons to jump/shoot/fire missiles), you turn on a 3D perspective, kinda like super paper mario. and i'd guess that with yet another button, samus holds her ground and the perspective changes to first person (probably when you need to aim precisely or you just don't feel like auto-aiming those stupid bugs on the background)Well you could use the Dpad for basic movement but not moving is probably how it will work.

The entire game is on a 2.5D plane, it plays like a side scroller, but with 3D visuals and it looks like some movement depth. It switches to 3D when you go into first person.

That's what I thought, because there's sequences where the camera is behind Samus platforming.

in that situation, i think it's more of a triggered event then the camera simply adjusting to the better angle. you mean the lava thing from the E3 trailer, right?IGN:Other M Hands On

I am liking this game a lot. It is looking real fun, but it is also bugging me to the nth degree that they did not just use the Nunchuk.
Look at all the work around they are doing just to keep it on a single horizontal Remote. You cannot choose your weapons, a commander tells you when yo use Ice power. You cannot move in First Person, you have to switch back to third person. Your character is always running at the same speed in 3d environments because all the movement is mapped to the digital nature of the D-pad. You do not need to aim at your enemies in third person, it basically aims for you.
It is so obvious this game could have greatly benefitted from the inclusion of more buttons. And do not say this is more simple. It is not more simple, all the work around is creating a steeper learning curve.
At least give us the option for a nunchuk. I will easily take the disadvantage of the analog on a 2d plane for the loads of benefits it gives us for the rest of the game.
to trigger first person, you point at the screen. you never had problems playing metroid on the NES, which had less buttons and functions than your wiimote. why adding more buttons when everyone that tested it says it works perfectly with the current amount of buttons?I am liking this game a lot. what annoys me is the fact that there are no gameplay footage recorded from gamespot, despite the huge amount of time spent on the game >_>
BTW, new missile recharge system FTW *remembers running out of missiles on prime 1*

When you cannot choose your weapons I see that as a work around and a problem. It worked as an NES game, but this game is much bigger. Spanning three different view points. I already listed reasons why this is a problem. if i remember correctly, they gave up the "select your weapon" in prime 3, and just kept upgrading the same weapon, like before. there's no surprise that you won't have to keep picking which weapon to use all the time.^ You are correct. The beam got upgraded and the missiles would get upgraded. Whereas in previous prime games you would choose your beams and the type of missiles. In Metroid Prime 3 when you upgraded, you inherited all the old abilities + the new ones.

I dont think anyone decides your weapons for you. They said that Adam authorizes you to use certain weapons as you go. I take that to mean that for example once he says its okay to use the ice beam you are authorized to use it for the remainder of the game??? Almost like unlocking it. Just a thought.

Okay here is my question. Do you get to decide when to use it after that point?Look at the quote from IGN hands-on: "Malkovich authorizes the use of ice weaponry to attack the creature. So far at least, Nintendo and Tecmo seem to have relied upon the commander as the logic of the weapon system. In the demo, Aran doesn't really upgrade her weapons, but she will only utilize certain ones with permission of Malkovich. It's an interesting change that explains the enhancement system without following the traditional formula."
As far as we know the commander decides for you.
Has there been any new gameplay footage to come out of this event or is Nintendo just not letting it happen?TheColbert
No gameplay footage yet.
[QUOTE="BrunoBRS"]what he did there was very, VERY risky... i mean, it was probably forbidden to record anything, or youtube would be crawling with gameplay videos by now... i feel sorry for the baby metroid :( and is it only me, or when the guy asks samus to move to the other room, her way of walking looks kinda robotic? yes i know it's nitpicking, i'm just asking if i'm the only one that had that impression.SepewrathShe walks like a soldier, I actually found that to be a nice touch. I like her voice, I just hope the actual narrative holds up, especially with the inner monologue thing, it sounds like we will be hearing from her alot throughout the game.
During the IGN podcast, Matt C says there are a lot of monologues...and that was in the demo alone. I think it'll be awesome going through those lonely Metroid-esque levels actually knowing what Samus is thinking.
