While we're talking about games we've been replaying, I've been replaying Super Mario Sunshine. I've got to say, for a game that I originally hated, I've really grown to appreciate Sunshine for what it was. If there's one thing that I think hurt the game more than anything, it's the spray function of FLUDD.For collecting purposes, it does its job, even though some of the blue coins you use it for are pretty annoying, but overall, it does bring a kind of tedious aspect to the game, especially in missions where you specifically have to clean different stuff (mud, electric goop, lava) off of things. But besides that, I think it did a great job of building off of what they learned in Super Mario 64. Its levels do a much better job of creating big levels which are fun to explore, while not sacrificing the platforming. And as for the controls and camera, which is my biggest complaint about SM64, there are definitely moments where they were frustrating (in the Pinna Park mission where you have to go to the top of the Ferris wheel by going to the back of it could have definitely been better), I think it did a much better job of it than SM64. Granted, after playing the Galaxy games, these things do seem pretty archaic by comparison, but the gap between 64 and Sunshine is bigger than the gap between Sunshine and Galaxy IMO.
Anyway, Sunshine is the only 3D Mario that I haven't beaten 100%, so I'm hoping to do that in this playthrough, but with Christmas coming up, I may have to put it on hold for a while, but I've been making pretty good progress in the game so far, with a little over 60 Shines (forget exactly how many).
