I really want to get Demon's Souls. I only bought one PS3 game last year and it wasn't even a 2009 release. And I love me some RPGs.

But on the other hand, I don't like hard games. My threshold for saying "**** this I quit" is around 6 tries or so. I'm one of those people that are like "WHY WOULD THEY MAKE THE GAME LIKE THIS IF YOU CANT BEAT IT. THIS IS STUPID".

What kind of difficulty is it? I didn't mind games like F-Zero and Ikaruga because I can plainly see my deaths were by my own error, they were something I could practice at and quickly get better at. But then games like Ninja Gaiden, where the camera is all wonkey and there's projectiles coming at me off-screen just piss me off. Or Modern Warfare 2 where I suddenly die out of nowhere because someone snuck up behind me and killed me while I wasn't watching. THATS STUPID. I CAN'T SEE THE PERSON COMING SO THEY SHOULDNT BE ALLOWED TO KILL ME. Also, getting shot by people I can't see. If I can immediately identify where bullets are coming from (so I know how to dodge them!), ITS STUPID AND A BAD GAME.

God I hate first person shooters sometimes.

Demon's Souls is hard in the sense that you better plan ahead or you are going to die. From a standard enemy around your size (at least at the beginning of the game with crappy items) you can survive maybe 3-4 hits. Some enemies more, some less. You have to know what kind of enemy you are facing and respond accordingly. Dodge and backstab this guy. Kill that guy with fire. That kind of thing. Then there's the level lay out. Until you know the area you better move slowly. Turning a corner could be fatal because there might be an enemy lurking around the corner. Walking up a staircase? Hah. A giant flaming boulder rolls down it and insta kills you. Basically the theme of the game is extreme caution. If you approach slowly and CAREFULLY you can get out alive. If not you'll be dead and dead fast. Also every time you die you lose all your money and have to redo the entire dungeon. The only checkpoints are after bosses. And if you die you can't have full health until you kill a boss. To quote Yahtzee "Truly a game that stomps you to death 20 minutes in and tells you you can have your health bar back once you've proved you don't need it is a game that does not **** around".

[QUOTE="snowman6251"] I haven't decided on a class yet either. I want my first playthrough to be relatively easy, so not a magician. I'd normally go for the knight because shield + armor = tank = dies less but that feels kind of boring with all those other classes. I have a special place in my heart for rogues so the thief has caught my eye but like I said, shield = die less. The thief is supposed to be more about dodging. Or I might go for the Wanderer because I read something about a "Samurai" build and I like Samurai.

Well of course you wouldn't want to do the Magician. If you want to do magic then you go with a Royal, which is what I think I'm going to do. Royal comes with equipment that allows constant MP regeneration. Thief and wanderer are really hard and you will die a lot. One person on the ps3 board said they started out as thief and couldn't make it through the first part so they restarted the game as another class. The Knight isn't as boring as you'd think because you can do offensive and healing magic eventually. But if you want a more interesting fighter maybe go with the Temple Knight who can use healing magic at the very beginning of the game. The boring class in this game is the Soldier, not the Knight.

The Temple Knight is a Paladin and being an ex-WoW player I have this thing about Paladins where I hate them. Maybe I'll go Barbarian because armor is for pansies and clubbing people is cool. Then I of course recall that Barbarians don't use shields they use both hands for murder and there's the whole armor is pansies thing which sounds like a one way ticket to PAIN.

If by money you mean souls then not exactly. If you can make it back through the level to claim the pulpy mess that is your body dearly departed, then you get back all the souls you had when you died, though you still have no body. But if you die again on your way back to your body, then you kiss those souls goodbye forever.

Also the game saves every time you talk to someone, and really it saves very often along the way anyway in the background. And you can regain your full health and body back by using the blue eye stone to go to someone else's world and help them out.

You can use a shield with a Barbarian. I don't know man. Seems very difficult, but if you can make it through the first part then you're home free with the barbarian. Just remember that the barbarian requires the most souls to upgrade out of all the classes, so that means that your dexterity will remain low for a while and that means a restriction on what weapons you can use until later in the game than the other classes get an upgrade. Which sucks.

I was referring to souls and I'm aware you can pick them up again but I was simplifying it. And you CAN use a shield as a Barbarian but the suggested class build on the wiki says either dual wield clubs or two handed weapons. Actually I'm looking at the wiki now and weirdly enough the priest seems like one of the better classes. They start with a good shield, the ability to heal, surprisingly high strength for what is traditionally a man of the cloth. I might be a priest. That's a weird thought. I'm used to them being squishy little ninnies.

Anyway I just ordered the game. I've decided on it. I'ma conquer that *****. Also I love how my last three orders from Amazon have been screwed over by holidays so overnight shipping means "see you in three days". Damn Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Sundays (but not really cause Christmas is awesome).

Priest has low dexterity though. What happens if you find a gorgeous weapon? You'll be able to carry it around with you but you won't be able to use it! :P Wow just bought it eh? Did GameSpot giving it the GOTY influence you?

I will up my dexterity to like 15 or something to make weapons usable. And I didn't even notice that. Its mostly me watching youtube vids, us discussing it, me being curious, and me liking everything Yahtzee doesn't.

TURKEY DISASTER My dad put in a 14 lbs turkey in the oven and set it for 2 1/2 hours. We take it out of the oven after the timer went off. The turkey is completely burnt on the outside edges, and completely raw in the middle. And also the plastic around is melted and stuck on the turkey. Problem? He didn't press bake, he pressed BROIL. Now we have to decide what we're going to do. The stores are all closed and that was the only turkey we have.

Oh man I'm surprised that it stayed on broil that long without catching fire, I mean I know that I can only microwave a banana in a stack of paper plates for a half hour before it blows the door off.

Call up the restaurants in your area and see if they do takeout

nice We called for Pizza, Chinese, all you can buffets, no answers anywhere. It sucks because there is a China King less than 5 minutes from my house. It's even closer than my college. Everything's closed. So...we happen to have some chicken breasts in the freezer. We'll cook them right up. We'd barbecue them but it's snowing outside.

Freezer management saves the day!

I always have 5 pounds of all the popular animals in my freezer. Chicken, pork, and steak. I don't like turkey lol

Not bad, chicken with all those sides will be good

It sounds like me and my how I avoided my taco tragedy. I added too much paste and salt to the meat so I was like "OH NO!" then I added another pound of hamburger and the crisis was averted.

The most amazing part about it is how much of an improvement over its predecessor it is. I did not like AC1 when I played it at a friends house. AC2 however freaking owns. I don't know how they did it but they did.

I got somewhere around $300 total for christmas, but I only got 80 of it on christmas. So I guess I'll just list what I bought.

  • NSMB Wii
  • Crystal Bearers
  • Mario $ Luigi 3
  • Geometry Wars : Galaxies
  • ALL HANDHELD CASTLEVANIAS
  • Outlaw Star, Perfect Collection
  • Harry Potter 5
  • Dawn of Mana
  • Metal Saga
  • Tokobot Plus
  • the Disgaea 2, Persona 3, Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin Doublejump Guides
  • and Ogre Battle 64 on virtual console!

Other than that, everyone should know full decades start on the 1 of every number set, but a decade is not set in stone like a century is. So laugh at them now and laugh at them next year while telling everyone else how silly they are for not understanding time.

And turkey goes just fine with Ketchup, or Miracle Whip and Swiss chese between two peices of bread.

for anyone who has rythm heaven, is it a good game?

i got $45 worth of gift cards to walmart, and there is a boxing day sale for some games.

I plan on getting NHL 2k10 for $19.99, and i am considering rythm heaven as well for $19.99.

I played the demo, and i thought it was decent. I wouldn't put down the $40 for it, but i am wondering if it is a good deal for $20?

Yeah thats weird. Most of us eat between 5 and 7. Also my ACR class is undoubtedly better but my Mini Uzi Marathon Pro is stupid fun to play. I named it "Kamikaze" because being so mobile does tend to result in more casualties than I care for but its just so fun being so mobile when most MW2 matches amount to sitting in a hidey hole until you've been murdered then finding a new hidey hole.

Yeah, seriously. The end is so awesome and has one of the best lines EVER in a game. Well, the line itself isn't that great, but the timing is absolutely perfect. I laughed so hard.

And I really like how they set up (I think) the DLC to fit in with Desmond's storyline at the end. If they do it the way I think they will, it'll be great.

The problem is that some Chinese are lazy or actually celebrate Christmas now, so sometimes you will find one that isn't open on a holiday. Of course, a smart owner would be open on Christmas, as it usually gets packed on holidays and you can charge dinner prices all day long.

I had lasagna and manicotti rolls for lunch and supper in between the naps and watching my neice for three hours while her parents took a break to um, study the blu-ray player hooked up to my mother's hdtv.

Overall, such a well done game. And there's so much still left to do in terms of collecting and unlocking stuff. It's fantastic.JebranRush
I got everything before I finished, and I think it was worth it. Getting the whole story of subject 16 before watching the ending is kind of helpful in understanding the overall plot a bit more.

How much time have you spent on it? I think I clocked in at around 30 hours after I had collected everything. A good 5 hours AT LEAST of that was spent looking for feathers, because I refused to get any kind of outside help for that. I love climbing around so much that I didn't even mind wandering around each area somewhat randomly to find the feathers. After awhile, I got a good enough sense of where they might be that I could actually see a nook from afar and think "there's probably one there..." and be right.

So Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without random games given to me. I didn't ask for games and didn't expect them, but I got some anyway.

Games I got:

DS:

Space Invaders Extreme, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor, Etriah Odyssey II, Contra 4, Castlevania OoE

PSP:

Crisis Core: FFVII, GTA: Liberty City Stories, Final Fantasy II

Nothing I really wanted (you all know how I feel about JRPGs...it's ok though, they were all second hand), but good to add to the collection.

Oh, most importantly though, I got this AWESOME book for my coffee table:

I also got a new wireless keyboard and mouse (desperately needed), monies, new bedding, some Bailieys, and more chocos than I can count.

Overall, great Christmas.

I had about 25USD to spend so I got the Unreal(tournament) Deal Pack, Knights of the Old Republic, and Dues Ex: Game Of The Year Edition

Was planning on getting Mirror's Edge but the sale was over :/... But oh well, I'm happy with getting Deus Ex instead.

Nobody beats my Craftsman Christmas, then again mine isn't over until the third week in Jan so this is just the start

For those who actually like good movies the Turner Classic Movies is playing Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes movies all day today

Know what the good thing about making Christmas dinner just for yourself?

TONS OF LEFTOVERS!

Me and my ham (I named him Hammy Davis Jr) are going to have a lot of great meals, he may even join me for a few lunches

Today I got bored of straight up Death Match for MW2 while waiting on Demon's Souls (I hate you sunday messing up my deliveries) Anyway my Kamikaze spec owns at Domination. Every single match, even when my team lost, I was the highest scorer across all teams and won the "most points captured" accolade. Being highly mobile is very useful.

I just finished it too. Is the line you're talking about the "what the..." line? Nearly 40 hours.

You paid $15 too much. I hope you can find some poor soul willing to pay twice that for those.

I just learned my new favorite Japanese word. なかなか Nakanaka No idea what it means. Wasn't able to pick it out in the context of the sentence. Doesn't matter though. Its really fun to say.

2 $5 off coupons and some BB Rewards Zone credit.

Well considering that they each go for at least $15, I don't think that'll be a problem.

Have you played those games?

Nice deal. I'm thinking of getting them. Are you actually going to open these ones and play them?

Jordan has repeatedly talked about how he doesn't see what others see in madworld and I'm pretty sure he also said he played HotD and thought DSE was a better railshooter.

I own both and don't care much for either. Madworld could've been a lot better and isn't that much fun as it is, and Overkill is just plain cheap. I got it for $13 and feel like I paid way too much. I got Madworld for free and wish I had chosen something better.

Haven't decided yet. My gf's not interested in Overkill, and I don't want to play it by myself. Maybe if a friend comes over and wants to play it I'll open it up.

Right now I have too many unfinished games that I need to go through before I can even think about opening new ones.

Oh and the beginning of the Saboteur is AWESOME!

Amen to that. Was Canada always so awesome for game deals? I hadn't noticed it before.
