What I dislike:

.Their online infrastructure. Friend codes suck.

. Not localising certain games that japan gets (Mother 3 etc.). Who really knows if LS or XB will be coming to us.

. Not making new games in certain franchises for years and years. You know, StarFox, F-Zero, etc.

What you said and:

not having wired connection capabilities out of the box

Releasing cool compilations in limited quantity with no chance of it returning.

Releasing crappy anniversary collections and then stating that it might come out again later.

Not putting in a hard drive with its current console. The hard drive could have allowed for patches and demos of retail wii games.

For releaing peripherals and not supporting them to an acceptable extent such as Wii speak and Wii motion plus.

For not marking down any of their first party games. Mario Kart, Smash Bros, and Zelda TP should not cost $40 or $50 when these games are 3 to 4 years old. Nintendo should bring back the Players Choice games for cheaper prices.

For discontinuing games like Excitebots, Warioland Shake it, Warioware, and so forth.

I dislike how they are always ahead in one aspect but behind in another. Examples: N64 superior power limited by cartridge space and cost, GC powerful console with no online elements (that didn't actually bother me that said), I don't think I need to go into why the Wii is a step forward and a hop on the spot at the same time.

I liked your points too TC, I fully agree on all of them.

No universal voice chat in online, friend codes instead of a friends list.

Their lack of willingness to bring over key games I am interested in, such as Another Code 2, and Fatal Frame 4. It also looks doubtful they will bring over Last Story.

That requires a new console mate, if you are buying a new console you would expect a hardware upgrade no? Wii would have been fine if it just output 720p but whats done is done and there can't be much of this gen left to worry about it.

Not sure what the point of this reply was. :? I hate how NoA won't localize games like Fatal Frame and Disaster.

Region locking - what's the reason?

Online - needs to not be half-assed. Make it good, or don't make it.

I can also point out that I did not like the selling of Rare. But that's just me wanting to play their games on Nintendo's systems speaking. It might've been a smart move, business wise.

Friend codes? No one ever complains about telephone numbers but when it comes to friend codes "no it sucks." Someone wanna explain why it's ok phones get away with this but video game consoles don't?

Mother can't come outside of Japan due to license issues, and since at least the NES, Nintendo has always had Japan only games. It's nothing new. If you want the game, go and import its Japanese version. It's not hard.

3rd, you completely take for granted everything Nintendo has offered this gen in their software. Nintendo one of the most vast library of genres and franchises than most, if not ALL, than any other developer on the major platforms. Nintendo has also released more titles on the Wii / DS than any other gaming company has this generation.

Two of your points are invalid, and unless I get a fitting answer on the first point, all three of them are invalid.

The main thing I don't like (which could go for ANY newer game) is that they don't make hard games anymore. They are way too easy, and I don't think I get my money's worth if I beat it in a week!

{RANT} HOW THE HEll...is telephone numbers and friend codes on the Wii the same thing? They're not. When people are playing games online they want to be able to do so... quickly ( can't find the word I'm looking for). The PC, 360 and PS3 users can enjoy a stream-lined online system where they don't have to enter a whole bunch of numbers to play with people. Friend codes SUCK! If Nintendo are going to continue with them next gen they better be universal friend codes! People actually want to have fun online without those things getting in the way! The online could have been so much better without them!

Unless Nintendo has surprise game announcements for us this E3 they better damn well release LS, XB and the others to other regions!! Importing Japanese versions isn't easy for everyone! In fact, even if they announce upcoming games they better release those games!!

Yes! I am aware of the great Wii library! But I still want F-Zero damnit! They better have F-zero for the next system!! THEY BETTER HAVE IT!

Ok then....

Because unlike phone numbers, you dont have to give an individual and unique phone number to each of your different friends. You only have one number you have to give out, if phone numbers were like friend codes, friends would have to call you at a different number depending on what topic they wanted to talk to you about. I have absolutely ZERO problems with friend codes at their root, I like them as a form of identification, but they just need one universally for the console as well as a friends list, not a different one for every game.

They are too afraid to attempt to make a HD console that put just put everyone else out of business. If nintenod had a ps3 caliber console...but as the Wii...along with 1st patry and 3rd party support, there would be no reason to have any other consoles. 3ds seems like it might be a step in the right direction.

I agree with what you said TC. The friend codes are annoying, and also, how you can only speak to each other if the game supports Wii Speak and if you have people added as friends, and if you're playign the same game. I would love it if you could just go on and talk from the Wii Menu.

Friend codes do not suck, your opinion is wrong. There's cell phone numbers, home numbers, work numbers. It's not a hassle like people claim it is. And here it is asking Nintendo to do it the way as the consoles are doing it. A prime example of how people demand the Wii to be like a clone of another platform.

Oh and by the way, the 3DS is using Friend Codes. Nintendo does it THEIR way.If friend codes didn't work, they wouldn't have carried onto the 3DS now would they? Because friend codes work.

Unless Nintendo has surprise game announcements for us this E3 they better damn well release LS, XB and the others to other regions!! Importing Japanese versions isn't easy for everyone! In fact, even if they announce upcoming games they better release those games!!

Dangit WiiFan, Friend codes suck. Also, has Nintendo officially said what kind of friend codes 3DS has? If it has Universal friend codes, then that's cool.

Also, no one is asking Nintendo to try to be like MS or Sony, we just want them to improve their online. Nintendo isn't some perfect company, and everything Sony and MS does isn't automatically wrong. Nintendo would do well to look at their online system and take some....er... influence from it (once again can't find the word I'm looking for) .

Their family friendly strict regulations. in keeping up with its first generation of gamers nintendo fails, thats why i love XBOX. xbox continues to grow and age with its audience. nintendo is still in the "children first" mode even though its first generation of loyal fans are old enough to have kids now. and for online lobies nintendo fails, its so hard and rediculus to try to join your online friends in a game of mario kart.

I agree with both sides here but you have to understand how easy it is go get your friends online with the PS3 and XBOX 360 compaired to the wii. Wii makes it so you have to know your friends personally to add them. Nintendo doesnt want any kids getting word mollested by strangers online. also there is no voice communication on wii games because cuss words turn children into little devilish hellions and could possibly lead to the total destruction of the planet as we know it. (extreme scarcasm). I do not want to listen to a bunch of potty-mouthed kids online, oh wait i already do on XBOX live. lol

I have owned each one of Nintendo's consoles in its current generation and I do not understand how it is that Nintendo has not grown and aged with me? What is it that the Wii should be able to do that it is incapable of doing as a video game system to keep me entertained? I have a guess as to what it is that is being implied here with the children first comment but I do not want to put words in your mouth.

As for the children first mentality itself I think that is a limited view of Nintendo. Mario and Kirby are bright and colorful characters that are definitely attractive to children but how are other top line franchises like Metroid and Zelda geared more towards children than older gamers?

How do I hate how Nintendo is a business? Hardwire connection is a standard thing regardless if a person going wireless. All wireless routers have ports for hardwire connections just in case.

When I say hard drive, I am not asking Nintendo to come out with a 300GB hard drive, but come on, games that had lackluster controls with the wiimote could have had a patch if there was a hard drive. I like demos. Maybe I would know of more cool games for Wii if Nintendo had demos of retail games.

What's wrong with supporting software. Why discontinue games like Warioware, Warioland and Excitebots. From what I understand Warioware sold pretty well. Obviously you are going to make more copies of games that sell better, but you should not cancel current games on the market completely. That is just stupid.

Metroid Trilogy had to have sold well if you can't buy it for under $70, why not put it out again. Why put out the straightforward port of mario all stars with the lackluster extras again and not Metroid?

Why release a peripheral and not support it?

Nintendo has been making a profit since Wii came out and game like Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Zelda, Mario Galaxy 1, and Mario Bros have sold an insane amount. Each one of these games has sold over 5 million. A few have reach over 20 million. I don't think these games still need to cost $50 seeing as they have been out for years.

The online could have been so much better without them!

wiifan001

Yes! I am aware of the great Wii library! But I still want F-Zero damnit! They better have F-zero for the next system!! THEY BETTER HAVE IT!

Wii4Fun

Who are you to dictate Nintendo?

Seriously wiifan think about this. The only aspect phone numbers and friend codes have in common is that they both have a string of numbers. If anything phone numbers are more similar to xbox live, psn, or steam friend system than friend codes. With xbox live, your identification is tied to one set of characters, which you can universally communicate with other friends. A phone number is one set of characters tied to your identification and that is applied to your friends.

It frustrates me that Nintendo is so fearful of losing it's family friendly image that they are willing to sacrifice things that would improve their system in the eyes of gamers. For example, playing online is such a huge hassle and friend codes are a goddamn joke. Secondly, I think that their move to make the Wii such a weaksauce system in terms of graphics, processing power and memory has turned alot of developers off. Nobody wants to develop games on a system that can't even run popular game engines. Thirdly, I don't like how Nintendo makes tacky upgrades for their handhelds then jacks up the price for basically the same thing. Overall, I like Nintendo but it just feels like they really don't care about satisfying people who enjoy games yet they are willing to bend over backwards to attract people who couldn't care about games in the first place.

the only thing that i hate is noa's localization problems there is so many great games that for whatever reason they just wont bring over most of it is reggie's statement a few years back that was in less game sells over a million copies it isn't worth sellingelbert_b_23

Wow he really said that?

My only complaints:

Their refusal, as of late, to update the VC at their old pace of 3 games a week. Hell they hardly release one a week anymore.

They haven't been taking as many risks this gen with their trademark characters. Metroid Other M is the only one I can think of that was risky, while last gen they had sunshine, wind waker, prime, SF adventures, etc.

I'm sorry, but I got many lol's from this.

Nintendo doesn't need you defending it on the forums. If anything companies prefer vocal consumers because it helps them generate an idea of what sells and what doesn't.

Friend Codes indeed do suck. They're better than nothing, but given the technology available, it really is in everyone's best interest to find a more streamlined way to connect players.

Edit: Staying on topic, I pretty much agree with everything the TC listed.

I would have to agree.

What you said and: - Nintendo not attempting to keep up with its competitors hardware. Or to put it in another way, ahead in one department but fail to deliver in others. (A little more power in the Wii wouldn't hurt. Being twice as powerful as GC wasn't saying much if they were thinking long term. They were making profits on day 1 so they could have increased its technical abilities for a small lost when it launched. At least it would make everyone happy and not alienate your core fans. And no hard drive support? Come on Nintendo...) - Nintendo keeping quite a bit of the good games exclusively in Japan. - Nintendo fetish of keeping their first party games over $30 even after they were released 2-5 years ago. (I mean, damn, I'd like to pick up Mario Kart Wii or SMG. But I don't intend to pay over $40 for them when they were released a long time ago. By the time Mario Kart wii drops to a decent price below $30, no one would really be online....) - Nintendo releasing certains games months in one region before shipping them to other countries. - They need to bring back the "Official Nintendo Seal of Quality", and start sticking their nose into third party game developers projects to make sure they are making the game good and not rushing it to be bad. - They should attempt to buy some of those third party companies that were/are going out of business. Factor 5? I believe silicon knights was or already is out of business. At one point, Atari was on the verge of going out. Make them an offer they can't refuse. If Nintendo can another good second party company, that will help. - Not attempting to update any of VC's games. They could have at least added rumble to some of N64 games like OoT. That's all I can think of right now....

  • The fact that first party games hardly ever decrease in price.
  • The fact that their online infrastructure is poor compared to PSN which is also free.
  • The fact that one cannot have a wired internet connection with the Wii.

That is all I can think of currently.

For discontinuing games like Excitebots, Warioland Shake it, Warioware, and so forth.

gamenerd15

A 2gb $10 works perfect for much less

There are a limited number of factories. If old games are being made new ones can't be

I bought it day one for 50. Nintendo said it was for a limited time right off the bat. And Mario Allstars isn't bad

Friend Codes

Favoring certain franchises over others

The almost certain release of a "better" version of a system about 5 months after launch.

They do on games that slow in sales. Punchout isn't still full price, nor is mario party 8. People need to learn how the economy works, if something is still in demand at a certain price, it IS going to be sold at that price until demand wanes.
