Growing up in the age of NES, i played the snot out of Super Mario Bros 2... Loved being able to play as someone other than Mario. I want confirmation from Nintendo that this is going to be playable online.. an article on this game in the guardian today claimed it so, but I want to hear it from Nintendo directly.

First 3D multiplayer Mario, and possibly the first online Mario game. I'm getting super hyped for this. I don't get all the hate this game is getting from supposed "fans"

ill admit slight disspointment when i first saw it... but its grown on me...id love to beat the game with someone other than mario.(peach)

if it has online then that would make it about as good as a real 3d mario..because i have no one to play MP with on local.

I love it! The one for 3DS was really good. This one includes HD and multiplayer. What's not to love? :)

Pretty disappointing if this is the 3D Mario game they were talking about. I found SM3DL to be a good game, but I considered it more of a 3DS showcase than a full blown game.

I'd much rather have a Galaxy-type game, but the game still seems pretty solid. It's not like the 3D Mario games have been bad. Neko Mario is quite hilarious. When I first saw it I was like "You gotta be kitten me!"

Polygon is reporting no online play... You know f the Guardian for putting out false information without getting confirmation.

I'm loving it. It looks fantastic and like Super Mario 128 merged with Mario Bros 2. I don't understand why people are underwhelmed, parkour (the cat suit climbing ability) and 4 player is a huge chance to 3D Mario, bigger than planteoid worlds IMO (though I will probably regret that statement later)

Super Mario Galaxy 2 was pretty much the same thing as 3D Land. Stages on a map, less heavy on exploration. The time limit is new but it was never really a problem for me in 3D Land.

I do like that the play style mimics Super Mario 2 with the characters abilities. The cat suit looks fun.

Not the proper 3d mario i was hoping for. The time limit and multiplayer strays a tad too close to NSMB. I want a game with a hub-world like SMG1 or Sunshine. A new Paper Mario, a proper sequel to Thousand-Year Door, would also be amazing.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I'd rather play this game with 3 other people than Super Mario Galaxy by myself. Of course Nintendo per usual has their head stuck in the sand so no online play again...completely inexcusable. What a joke.

Really excited for it, 3d land was the first 3d Mario game that I felt compared to the 2d games, so I'm thrilled they're going further in that direction

I'm personally predicting a release date of December 1st. It's a Sunday and in time for the holiday season, of course. Then Wii Fit U on December 8th or 15th. Donkey Kong Country on November 3rd.

I agree with this, however I'm sure it will still be great and it does look like a lot o fun. Im assuming we can pick any charecter in single player mode as well? Because Luigi all the way!

I was expecting Nintendo to go back to the Super Mario 64 style of gameplay (open worlds), in order to avoid comparisons with the Galaxy games.

Now, I am thinking Super Mario 3D World will have the same effect on me as New Super Mario Bros U did. At first, I was not to excited about it, but once I purchased it and played it I could not deny its awesomeness.

I honestly thought they were doing a mario 64 2, simply because they wanted co-op in originaly and i thought the gamepad would achieve that...i was close though:p we are getting co-op

I'm honestly ecstatic! :D 1) I LOVED Mario 3D Land. I think it was the best in the series since Mario World 2) You can play as PEACH! :D My friends laughed at me when I said that I was really excited to play as Peach... but I love how she moves in Mario Bros. 2

Very disappointed. After how popular the Galaxy games where I was hoping they would stick with that formula but in a different setting. This game looks more like the 2D Mario games, and we already have one of those, and a huge expansion coming for it soon. But on top of all that it just looks boring, sorry Nintendo, but this'll be the first 3D Mario game that I won't be buying.

Looks like a mixture of 3D Land and New SMB. to me.

While I don't doubt EAD's ability to make a very good or even great game, It's hard for me not to feel "let down" by this.

Usually, I was buying a Nintendo system when they made a new 3D Mario for it, but this hardly looks like a "system seller" to me.

Some may say that the four-player co-op on the same screen is a big novelity for a 3D Mario title, but I'd rather see a more single-player centric and exploration-based Mario game than going into a more multi-player and "2.5D" direction.

I hope this won't be the only 3D Mario game for the WiiU and that the next one will rather continue the old 3D "collect-a-thon" themes and sport a unique setting.

Else, the (otherwise excellent) "core" Mario series may suffer in the future by becoming far too similar to each other. essentially losing their uniqueness and diversity which would go directly against Miyamoto's attempts to keep the series always fresh and unique.

I wish Nintendo would stop emulating the sidescrollers so closely with their 3d Mario games. They should take advantage of the possibilities provided by open environments, not limit their games to these linear spaces.

I was pretty dissapointed at first but I did have a blast with the 3ds game. I hope the game has a lot of levels and that they are varied enough to make up for the (assumed) lack of branching paths. That was one aspect of galaxy that I really liked, even though you would be playing the same "level" depending on which start you were going after you would be on a different area of the level.

I was disapointed about the lack of online play. Not because I would want to play this game online, but because I'm afriad nintendo is going to do all of their games this way or have an inferior online system. I currently only have 3 games for my wii u and none of them are online but I do want to play mario kart/smash brothers/ect online. To be honest I'm not sure how the online on wii u even works. Does the game pad function as your mic? Can you hear the other players your fighting/racing?

I'm glad Nintendo isn't going to straight to Super Mario Galaxy 3, though Galaxy 1 & 2 are my favorite games on the Wii. I don't think sm 3d world will be as good as the galaxy games, but it's something different and I like different

Except it's not different. It's not a game like Sunshine, or Galaxy where it's nothing like anything else in the series. It looks and feels like the 3DS game I played 2 years ago.

I'm extremely excited for this game. It's a flagship game for Wii U. I'm guessing Nintendo will mistakingly ignore online play again. But this is a perfect succession of the Galaxy games. It's completely different yet still just as creative in content. I'm hoping there are good Gamepad second screen applications. Hopefully more than just tap enemies and revealing secret paths. Nintendo has not made a single piece of software that truly compliments the second screen abilities of its console.

Like most, I was dissapointed as well! Wished for a new Mario: Super Mario Universe (kind of like the Galaxy series). Remember my first thought seeing it on E3 and was wondering why they chose to do that game.

After getting to see more of it and reading on reviews of people trying it out at BestBuy, it looks very promissing. I'm going to buy it for sure once it launches. I'm sure to be very surprised once I get to play it first hand, since Nintendo rarely dissapoints.

Another dissapointment was Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, but then again, I'm buying that game as well and looks like a lot of fun to play.

It's not another entire game. The second half are just old levels that were remixed. The game was 5 hours long. 15 hours if you 100%.

I didnt read all the comments so my apologies if someone touched on this. I think this was Nintendos plan- release an HD New Super Mario Bros to make the launch, make Super Mario 3D World to hold onto players attentions for awhile, THEN we'll get our Galaxy type game in a couple years!

It kind of bugs me that nintendo still doesn't know how to handle/incorporate online play into their games (smash brothers brawl/ mario kart). They display the coop capabilities but expect everyone to be in the same house so often? They need to stop being prehistoric and actually make it more convenient for their customers.

Disappointed.  I'm not saying the game won't be great, and a lot of fun.

But I wholly expected an HD 3D Mario masterpiece in the vain of Mario 64 or Galaxy.  Something that truly shows the capabilities of the Wii U.  And personally, that's what the Wii U needs right now.

So for now, my Wii U purchase will continue to be on hold until 2014, likely when Smash Bros. comes out.  There's just no must plays for me at this point.

I agree with this sentiment.  How in this day and age can you not have online coop for a game that is designed to be played cooperatively?  Blows my mind.  I ride for Nintendo, but somethings they do are mind boggling.

If it brings the baddies back from Super Mario 2 then I'm buying it day one. If not, I may wait. Not too thrilled on the cat suit. I'd like a Hammer Bros suit again
