ok i got a good question the one last article said wii remote wasnt compatible how the heck are wii games then lol contradiction?

mariokart64fan

Then it would be safe to assume that you would be able to play Wii games using the new controller. Of course, that would be assuming that all of these rumors and assumptions are correct :P

Much assuming going around today haha

http://www.01net.com/editorial/531636/toutes-premieres-fuites-sur-le-successeur-de-la-wii/

heres the translated url:

http://translate.google.ca/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.01net.com%2Feditorial%2F531636%2Ftoutes-premieres-fuites-sur-le-successeur-de-la-wii%2F&sl=fr&tl=en&hl=&ie=UTF-8

these were the guys who got the NGP specs right..

they claim roughly equivalent with 360 /ps3 (I PRAY THATS FALSE)

in addition they mention a "very original joystick"

...

i'm hoping they nintendo pays attention and goes for the leap.. if they wanna recapture hardcore they need developers like epic under their belt...

anyways.. expecting a formal announcement whenever their next investors meeting is (i dont suppose anyone knows?)

----------- edit:

another translated page..

"project-cafe" ... tabletish controller with camera.. similar architecture to 360 ..

I honestly wouldn't mind too much if it were the case. The graphics from last gen are good enough for me tbh.

it'd be good enough if they were trying to play catch up.. but they need to realise they'll be competing with ps4/and 'next'box 2ish years after their release...

This is rumor information from a post on the NeoGAF forum and pasted from an entry from Nintendoeverything.com:

- Codenamed "Project Café"
- E3 2011 reveal
- Architecture is very similar to the Xbox 360
- Café is a bit more powerful than the 360
- Easy to port Xbox 360 games
- Retro-compatible with GameCube and Wii games
- Should support all Wii peripherals
- Specs: CPU is custom IBM PowerPC with three cores, GPU should be an ATI from the R700 family, with a shader unit at version 4.1, RAM should be at least 512 Mb
- Controller is a touch tablet, moderate graphic output (sub-HD, not like an iPad)
- Controller specs: 6-inch screen, single touch, front camera, acts as a Wii sensor bar, d-pad, two bumpers, two triggers, possibly more
- June 2012 release in Japan, Holiday 2012 release in the West
- Another big surprise for the console that can't be discussed yet

This is rumor information from EDGE (also taken from an entry from Nintendoeverything.com)

- Ubisoft, Activision, EA are among the third-parties working on the console
- These studios have had development units for months
- System retains motion controls
- Its capabilities are "better than Move"
- Unclear if a camera is involved with the console's motion abilities

As always, this information is unconfirmed and can be false.

... but playing Legend of Zelda in HD would be too good to be true.

Cheese-Muffins

Legend of Zelda with vast volumetric dynamic lighting and teh foliage?

OMNOMNOMNOM :D

Nonono keep the graphics detail simple, but sharp, much like WW and how SS is, or SMG.

Ok sure improve the trees as they looked N64-ish but not much more, it gets off putting, I want games to feel gamey.

This is the same reason I can't get into Heavy Rain and those type of games, too graphically detailed.

  • No Way
  • Possible/Dunno
  • Likely

I'm thinking different setups, not one universal controller. Think Cla$sic controller and Wiimote+nunchuk. More options is better in the sense that it will attract more 3rd parties.

Tablet thingy is probably an extention, not THE controller, and will mostly be used for WiiWare kind of app-like games. That's why I put it in red, I'm not saying something like what is described won't be somewhat included.

Ok well they're on the right track with the graphics at least.

I'm all for this. But Nintendo must understand that a standard dual analog controller should come packed in with the system, and a majority of the games should be able to be played with a standard dual analog controller. Keep in mind, I'm all for different control schemes like the Wii Remote and actually prefer it over standard controllers. However, if Nintendo wants the hardcore audience and the proper developer support...they should have a standard controller come packed into the system and let it be compatible with most games.

Also, this next console must have a strong online presence. If Nintendo truly wants a console for 'everyone' then a dedicated online infrastructure has to be there. Of course Nintendo isn't going to abandon the casual market, that would be silly. So I'm sure Nintendo knows what to do with them. But if they want that other audience back (hardcore) then give them what they want: strong graphics, standard controls, and efficient online support. Who knows, whatever unique controller Nintendo has in mind might be icing on the cake, but lets get to the basic wants and demands.

^Whenever Nintendo comes out with their next console, if it could stop people from incorrectly using the term hardcore every 5 secs, I will accept a mere souped up 360. People throwing that term around, for it to only mean people who play CoD has gotten to the point where it makes me want to hurl in disgust. Anyway, we'll see, a lot of this sounds rather far fetched

i meant that based on the the alleged stance for this console based on the rumours:

-ign
"Nintendo's intent is to recapture the hardcore market."

-gameinformer
"It is our understanding that Nintendo is trying to embrace the western gamer and will likely launch a new brand with this console.

and its not really like Wii is in "first place" right now...
and if you think they are.. you're going to have to agree they aren't going to be able to hold it much longer.

I agree. They need to keep the casual intrigued with the product, which Nintendo is capable of doing. I just want them to have a powerful machine and a great online infrastructure.

But this tablet controller... I'm concerned to say the least.

It's their chance at putting Sony out of business.

Nintendo realized that the casual userbase is not surfing IGN or watching their E3 presentation for gaming info.

So, at places we core gamers typically visit, we will mostly experience the "hardcore" Nintendo side while marketing Wii Relax on a show like Ellen.

MS is doing this and they're pretty successful (Kinect).

Everything about Wii is to appeal to casuals, while we take a seat at the back. They recognized us, but their focus was elsewhere.

What I mean is that you're not going to see a happy Cammy standing in front of a white background. It's E3 2010 format from now on. Dark, blue and "hardcore" focused.

As you can see with 3DS, to us it looks like a very hardcore approach. But watch some comercials to see how they spin it 180 degrees around showing Nintendogs, smiles, faceraiders etc.

I haven't heard anything about Kinect besides some Rare jokes, yeah it's selling well but when I went back to real life and just happend to see Ellen showcasing a Kinect game (yoostar 2) YAY EVERYBODY GETS A FREE KINECT+THE GAME and the crowd went nuts xDD

then I realized that Kinect is heavily marketed, but it's like I've already forgotten about it, I barely notice it. Very weird but effective. I only notice the "gears of war" side of MS nowadays. That's what I mean

its not impossible to do both...

--------

ON ANOTHER NOTE...

"Sources now confirm to IGN the new Nintendo controller allows players to stream entire games to the device from the console, saying it's like a miniature television. The screen size on the controller is also confirmed to be six inches in size.....According to our sources, the new Nintendo controller will feature dual analog sticks in addition to standard d-pad and trigger buttons. It'll mirror a Gamecube controller in general function but not in specific form. " -ign

...sooo not quite a tablet and not quite a ngp, but if carried out successfully: definatley could be a kick in the nards for both(apple and sony). i think..

So it will be another Wii. Underpowered (on par with a 6 year old console) with a new gimmick. Meh, after the rumours of Nintendo going for the hardcore I got excited :?

I don't want to sound like a genius... but I am. :P :P

I've had this screen controller concept for so many years now. The biggest reason why I wanted it is for the following concept: Back in the day, when Madden was amazing, there was a huge problem with LAN multiplayer. Your opponent could see exactly what play you were picking, all you had to do was glance over at the other half of the screen. Now there was a button combo you could press to trick your opponent into thinking you picked that play, but to be honest most (casual) people never knew about it or just didn't want to hassle with it. So with a controller like this, it is GREAT for a game like Maddem where now you can pick your play in complete secrecy! I fricken love this controller idea. I always wanted this to happen! Now they can get rid of (for the most part) hubs on screen, and place those objects on the controller screen. Selecting weapons, health bars, etc..

I know a lot of you can't have an opinion on this (because you don't have a 3DS) but the Nintendo 3DS analogue stick is the greatest analogue stick I've ever used. It is perfect in EVERY way. It has an extremely low height, it has PERFECT resistance, it feels fantastic on your thumb, etc. I hope the Wii 2 sticks are exactly the same. The Wii's classic controller's analgue sticks are so fricken bad, its like the opposite of everything I mentioned above.

No, actually, it basically is.

If you make it a beast, it will be expensive. Casual gamers will say "no thanks".

If you don't make it a beast, it will be underpowered compared to the competition.

Pursuing casual gamers is fundamentally an orthogonal goal to making a powerful machine.

And now also factor in that the screen is supposed to be 6 inches, have a motion sensor and the IR pointer.

Hmmm.. touche.. i hope your wrong tho.. cuz I want it all

What do you think about this? couldnt they price it high from the start (due to 'beastage')... and then by the time the new sony/ms systems come out (somewhere between 2 and 3 years)... allow for a competitve price reduction which invites for casual market to.. 'wet their beaks' per say?

I seriously don't know. Maybe it's because it's E3 in 2 months literally, the Wii is going to have a rumored price drop and their are barely no games coming out for the Wii.

Less then two months. Nintendo's Press Conference is probably June 7th at 9AM PST (12PM EST) because that is the first day of E3 and Nintendo always has it on a Tuesday at 9AM PST.

Rumours are coming out for this thick and fast. I'm enjoying them while they last, there's always a lot of hype and news for when new systems are coming and the news on the Wii's successor has been very interesting so far.

[QUOTE="BrunoBRS"]ok i'm choosing this thread to ask this: WHAT THE HELL IS WITH THE SUDDEN OUTBURST OF RUMORS?!!?super600

I seriously don't know. Maybe it's because it's E3 in 2 months literally, the Wii is going to have a rumored price drop and their are barely no games coming out for the Wii.

so the rumors are coming because of a rumor of a price drop? isn't that like an always-growing loop? a rumor generates more rumors, more rumors generates even more and so on. also, i thought it was common sense that the wii is currently with few games because nintendo just released a whole freaking system.

I don't know if it was posted but it seems Pikmin 3 is now a Project Cafe title and Nintendo courting Rockstar : http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=155973

Of course it's a rumour.

Industry Experts respond to WiiHD news.

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/04/15/industry-experts-respond-to-nintendo-hd-news.aspx?PostPageIndex=2

Page 1 has Shane Bettenhausen (Ignition), Denis Dyack (Silicon Knights), Michael Pachter, Lee Jacobson (Atari), and John Davison (Gamespot).

Page 2 has Jeff Green (Popcap), Tim Gerritsen (Irrational Games), N'Gai Croal (Hit Detection), Justin Blankenship (Hit Detection), and Andy McNamara (Game Informer)

They are just speculating because none of them got Dev Kits and 5 of them aren't developers.

Actually the real reason the Wii has few notable games thus far this year is because many third parties have cut back on Wii production. This was literally stated last year in a report, because their games weren't doing well on the platform. Also, Nintendo takes a long time to put any decent or major first party title. Considering third parties have cut back, it makes sense that its time for a new console.

Especially with EA calling it a Legacy System.

I am not even a big fan of the GTA games but for the Nintendo console to be a full success in the game department(not necessarily sales) I want some heavy 3rd party support. If we can't get games like GTA, Mass Effect and Final Fantasy then it still feels a bit behind.

Just as I was thinking of straying from Nintendo they hit me with this :D (I promise I will never think dirty thoughts ever again Nintendo!)

Im excited for any news as of now, everything sounds interesting in the least, im worried a bit with the graphics power though. The rumour stating that its 'a little more powerful than the XBOX360' has me thinking it would be better to up the graphics even further? That way when the new Microsoft/Playstation consoles come out, it won't be left in the back with the least capable graphics power again. Just 'IMO' but my thoughts on the matter :)

SO EXCITED!! Need to have an E3 party at my house this year and not be stuck watching by myself at 5am lol

That would be very impressive indications for a launch lineup if it ended up being true

Well, if there is going to be a price drop, than it is inevitable that a new system is coming. Especially if there aren't as many games being released

so after the "siginificantly more powerful than the PS3" we're back to "only slightly above 360"? This is going to be a repeat of this gen all over with Nintendo being once again wayunderpowered. And they want to recapture the hardcore by doing the same thing again?

Also If it is indeed comparable to the 360/PS3 then why the hell wait till late 2012? They should release it as soon as possible like Holidays 2011. The new console could launch with big multiplatform games like BF3, Skyrim...etc + a big Nintendo exclusive. If it's the former, chances are both Sony and Microsoft might show something about their next console during E3 2012 which could hurt the hype for the Wii2.

If it's quite a bit more powerful than both consoles then no problem with a late 2012 release, but if it is indeed comparable, releasing it this year would be ideal.

The thing is both Sony and Microsoft are not in position to release something in short time. Sony just began to make profits on PS3. Revealing a new console could be a disaster for the shareholders and Sony would lose again more money. Microsoft just released the Kinect which resurects the console and from what I read if it's true they just began to make research on the next console.Don't forget the 8 billions lost on the RROD fiasco.

Nintendo is not fighting against Microsoft and Sony. It's Apple the threat.

Sony said they suspended the development of the PS4 and Microsoft resently stated that they are on track for a 2015 release of their next console.

True the Move and Kinect let's us believe that both them can't announce anything too soon but nintendo are pretty much forcing their hands here. I really doubt Sony or Microsoft both relying so much on their techswill just sit on their behind and let Nintendo have more than a year headstart into the next-generation.

And by releasing it in late 2012, Nintendo gives both of them a whole year to prepare something to show during E3 2012 which could hurt the release of the Wii2. They don't have to show much, a couple of tech demos, announcing a big exclusive game, stating their new consolesare coming next year(2013) and gloating about how their machines are gonna be 3 times more powerful than the Wii2. Which is why if this is indeed comparable powerwise to the 360/PS3, releasing it as early as possible (preferably end of this year, very early in 2012 at the latest) would be the best choice.

And Apple are in their own little world with their loyal following that will never look elsewhere, I don't consider them much of a threat for the other 3. The only way I'd consider Apple a threat is if they release a console of their own specially for games.

The 2nd Part I just looked and it isn't true. Other sites stated that it was 2015 but they later updated and said it was Bogus.
