I fear that if Link had a voice the Samus effect of Other M could occur. Meaning that the character would gain an extremely solid personality and therefore would open itself to be liked/disliked by people either due to the fact that the personality is not that charming to some, or simply because it shatters whatever the imagination of gamers has constructed about such a mysterious character.

So I am ok with other characters having voices, but not Link.

[QUOTE="locopatho"][QUOTE="so_hai"] All the text is already in English?

[QUOTE="locopatho"][QUOTE="so_hai"]If it does have voice-acting, they should be speaking Hylian. If they speak English, it would cause all of the Hylian text and lore throughout the games' history to be fairly redundant. Why would the characters be speaking English anyhow? They don't write it, read it, sing it and so on...

All the text is already in English?

No - the subtitles are in English - if you ever see a book, a signpost, or other text in the games it is always in Hylian.

Yeah, I guess I just don't see a difference between reading English and listening to English... If the game had no English whatsoever I'd agree with ya!

^ think of the text as a subtitle to a foreign movie. they are speaking in english (or rather, gibberish), but the convenient text is there to translate it for us.

Yeah, eventually, but dont hold your breathe for Link and Zelda talking, i bet this guys will be with no voice forever, which IMO is the better choice.

How would anything change? The text on signs etc. would remain in Hylian.

We don't need voice overs, that's the magic of the Zelda series.

I thought the magic was awesome gameplay rather then archaic design choices but whatever :P

I don't think it ever will and i don't think it ever should, it really isn't necessary and it adds to the style of the Zelda games; i suppose it is possible that it could be implemented well but it is just fine without it.

There's no reason for them not to at this point. It's true that other nintendo games don't have VOs, but no other nintendo games have stories like Zelda. At this point, there's no excuse for having to read everything. The characters need to have voices.

And they could do that and keep link silent.

kinda relevant to the discussion, but only remembered it today: portal 2 not only has some great dialogue with a mute main character, the game knows the character is mute. hell, glados even calls chell a "mute lunatic" at one point, and some of the very first jokes in the game are about how chell doesn't talk.

The series been around too long to make any real big changes to its "soul" which is having no voice overs.

xOMGITSJASONx

I thought the "soul" of a game was its gameplay :?

[QUOTE="wiifan001"]

From Satoru Iwata in an issue of Nintendo Power:"It would break the image of Link to have him speak." He went on to explain that none of the other characters should speak if Link is silent because it would be an "off mixture."t;/em>

GamerForca

Somebody needs to hand that man a copy of Half-Life 2.

Or Grand Theft Auto III
