[QUOTE="ChipmunkDeluxe"]i dont get how Jay-Z can be number one.....compared to Nas, 2pac, Biggie...how the hell is he number one of all time..what songs does he have thats better than them?? Each one of them has at least 3 songs that are better than any of Jay-Z's... He has like 5 good songs if that...but thats just my opinion. My list would go.. 1-2pac 2-Nas 3-Notorious BIG 4-Eminem (he actually used to be good..now he sucks) 5- Toss Up Between Tons of People..(including Jay-Z)
elpooz

....jigga has more than 5 good songs...many more...and hes number 1 cause mtvs commercial and they like artists with ill delivery and production which jigga has...

Did you watch the video? They explained that Jay-Z is #1 because besides putting out classic albums and having undeniable skill, he has had an unprecedented run atop hip-hop for almost 10 years now. No other MC in history has done that yet. They also explained how versatile he is, distinctly pointing out his ability to adapt and make so many different styles of songs, whether it be a club hit, something that shows off his lyrical prowess, a deep song, storytelling etc. Outside of Biggie who's career was cut short, Jay-Z has the best combination of skills mixed in with commercial appeal of any MC, hence why he has been so successful in his career and why he is respected in the hip-hop community so much. That's far from just having ill delivery and production, it's not like they had some idiots making the list.

They must have had some idiots making that list...jigga doesent touch pac...and in my opinion he hasnt ran hip hop for the last ten years...do u forget that nas has been right along side hova...this is why mtv sucks...they think whoever drops the hottest songs are the best alive...i mean yeah jigga is one of the best...i mean hes third on my list...but hes not THE best...he could have ran hip hop for 15 years and still not touch the skill or power of pac...Theres more to rap than ure flow, or ure sales, or ne of that ish, when jigga dies what is he guna leave behind?...a bunch of ill ass music, but i bet u he regrets not being able leave behind a legacy like pac did.

So they have idiots making the list because your #3 MC of all-time is ranked at #1? Hmmm. Wow that's so shocking, let's kill MTV they are idiots. And if you watch the video, I wouldn't be suprised if the people who voted on the list knew more about hip-hop than both you and I, just pointing that out.

LMAO weezy spreads the message the best

Hes basically a voice for the hood, he brings the reality of ghetto and hood life to the eyes of his listeners, and he brings a raspy flow never seen before, and a realness to the game, that few other mcs bring along.

and Dmx, son X brought hood life in to the game and showed every1 wat really reppin ure hood was about, and what being a g was really about, cause when he came out most mcs were tryna go along with wu tang and nwa, and tryna be on all that gangsta rap, but a lot of em were fake, X used his message to set them straight, and in a way clense gangsta rap of its fakes, and as for what he brings, and incredible flow and delivery that nearly shakes whoevers listening.

elpooz
yea but there have been other rappers out there that "speak for the hood", depict images of of ghetto life or talk about being a g and they do it a lot better than DMX or weezy

Talib Kweli is one of my favorite rappers of all-time and I don't think he belongs anywhere near the top 10. You're telling people to listen to more Talib Kweli when I have all his albums already and been up on him before you. Seems more like you need to get some Boogie Down Productions, Kool G Rap, and Big Daddy Kane albums if you think Kweli is a greater rapper than any of them...

well if you take the best of nas', jay's, dre, KRS' and Rakim's songs over a couple of CD's each one would have a better catalouge then em so that point's irrelevent

You dont know that, so ure point is also irrelevent.

If Lil Wayne has never released a classic how can he be a top 5 greatest rapper of all-time? He hasn't achieved anything then...

Jay-Z, KRS-One, Big Daddy Kane, Nas, Rakim, Ice Cube, Biggie.... that's just naming a few who have released classic solo albums, something Wayne hasn't done yet, and what would automatically make all of them greater rappers than Weezy.

Comparing one line to one line doesn't mean a rapper is better than another :| Why don't you compare any Weezy album to Rakim's Paid in Full? Rakim's Follow the Leader? Rakim's Let the Rhythm Hit Em? Those are hip-hop classics, and like I've said, Weezy has as many classic albums as I've released: ZERO.

So what's this "skill" you speak of...because the one thing Weezy seems to be "skilled" at is rapping...so he's speaking to the hood via music, right?

Your point makes no sense, and you've already twisted your point around 3 or 4 times in this thread...

LMAO weezy spreads the message the best

Hes basically a voice for the hood, he brings the reality of ghetto and hood life to the eyes of his listeners, and he brings a raspy flow never seen before, and a realness to the game, that few other mcs bring along.

and Dmx, son X brought hood life in to the game and showed every1 wat really reppin ure hood was about, and what being a g was really about, cause when he came out most mcs were tryna go along with wu tang and nwa, and tryna be on all that gangsta rap, but a lot of em were fake, X used his message to set them straight, and in a way clense gangsta rap of its fakes, and as for what he brings, and incredible flow and delivery that nearly shakes whoevers listening.

doggie, you can't be serious...the last thing I think about when I think weezy is dude being "real", I doubt he's done any of the things in his rhymes...dudes been in the industry since he was 12! He talks about money, flashy bullish, crack, women, clothes, and him being the best rapper alive. Rearely does he have songs that stray from those topics. When he does they are dope (Georgia Bush for example), but those songs are way to rare. And DMX brought the gangsta element back into the game, he brought what Pac had brought but on a gritty level and he lacked the Brenda's Got A Baby type tracks. People even accused DMX of trying to be like Pac when he first came out, no body wanted to be gangsta at all anymore. Pac and Big had just died, and people where doing shiney suit ish...Then DMX came with a gritty style...NWA was long gone, no body was really trying to imitate that...Wu-Tang...was the Wu, they were still dropping albums (solo), but their second effort (group) came out in the same year as DMX's debut...

U choose a terrible line like that??...that doesent even speak for the hood....elpooz
why is it so important to speak for the hood...what if that's not your target audience...why not let rappers speak for themselves and if that happens to be hood then good for the rapper...

And Lil Wayne is no way in hell talking to the hood with songs like "MY LEATHER SO SOFT" anyways

My top 5: *in no order* Nas Tupac - no-one can doubt the influence he had. Andre 3000 KRS-One and another that I cant think of. Honourable mentions for me would be Ras Kass (could be the fifth, Im not sure), BIG (although I personally hate his sound, cant deny he was good), Rakim should probably be there, but Im guilty of having not heard even paid in full...yet. Later today that should change.

lmfao, amazing how my top 5 rappers don't match up with that list even one bit! 1- Pharoahe Monch 2- Vakill 3- Ice Cube 4- Sean Price 5- The GZA :|

lmfao, the mtv list is pure comedy. Jay-Z isn't even top 20 material. Dude = Most overrated rapper ever.

I was going more with a mainstream approach - otherwise I think I wouldve put Ras Kass and GZA on my list I think.

None of those 5 have an album as good as Reasonable Doubt OR The Blueprint...

Pharoahe is pimp though, but hes no jay...how the hell can you even mention vakil yet?
ice cube deserves an honourable mention cuz he had dope albums...still not RD or BP...
Sean Price is wicked too...but hes still no jay
GZA doens't even have the best wu solo album...yet alone being top 5. No one in the WU deserves top 5 status...they are better as a GROUP...not individually...take allt he guest WU spots out of their albums and it would be worse.

Liquid Swords and Beneat The Surface were awesome albums. Don't really like Jay, but he's top ten for sure. Ice Cube's Amerikkka's most Wanted and Death Certificate certainly match BP & RD.

Pharoahe Monch has atleast 2 classics under is belt, he is the master of immaculate multi-syllable flows...and top notch lyricism...he is hands down thee greatest MC ever. Vakill is the best battle rapper in the planet...have you ever heard The Darkest Cloud? I think not...too busy under jigga's nut sacks are we? Ice Cube is the greatest gangsta rapper ever. Death Certificate > RD + BP GZA has Liquid Swords. The greatest solo Wu album ever. Wanna know why? Not because I said so...and certainly not because you said so either. But because it is WIDELY considered the best solo wu album, most of the ppl that copped all classic wu albums will say that Liquid Swords is the best. Yeah, I agree that Sean Price isn't really top 10 material...it's just a preference of mine...dude's entertaining as f***.

the only thing pharoah has mastered is , boredom. dude is the most boring rapper . stop listening to rap already . you have the worst list ive ever seen. none of those dudes could hold jiggas jock strap .
