Actually it's because France was part of the Allies so the US send troops to help. It end up going wrong since the french ditched.

Didn't the Germans had radars? I mean their U-boats could shoot undersea that time.

I gotsome interesting facts about D Day to add to that if you dont mind. (This is for everyones benefit not just Americans)

60% of all forces who assaulted the beaches of Normandy were either British or Canadian, many do not know this as they have been led to believe that the US army undertook the burden of D Day

Most of the Naval and Airforces who participated in the operation were British a total of about 42% belonged to the US

Germany wouldprobably have beaten back the Normany landings if it had not commited 4/5 of its Army to the fight against the soviets

On D-Day, the Allies landed around 156,000 troops in Normandy. The American forces landed numbered 73,000: 23,250 on Utah Beach, 34,250 on Omaha Beach, and 15,500 airborne troops. In the British and Canadian sector, 83,115 troops were landed (61,715 of them British): 24,970 on Gold Beach, 21,400 on Juno Beach, 28,845 on Sword Beach, and 7900 airborne troops.

Were are you getting this 60% number, I can't find any evidence backing it up.

I'm not sure what this article is supposed to be proving? And regardless we ended the war and came out the most powerful in the world so I don't get the point of this wall of text.

it's purpose is to single us dumb americans out, and make us feel guilty about not knowing everything about everything that happened during WWII.

Nobody ever said we won it all by ourself, we just resent people saying we were useless and not needed. Also no duh our army was terrible for a while, common knowledge. Now focus on europeans not us.MoonMarvel

Except that was two years before America was involved and in the meantime, they signed a non-aggression pact which lasted until August of 1945. So in effect, the soviets did very little until their invasion of Manchuria.

What are you talking about? The Russian army didn't declare war on Japan until after the atomic bombs were dropped. The Sino-Russian war was fought years before WW II and was a disasterous defeat for the russians.sonicare

Very good read. Every American should know the United State's role in WWII. Unfortunately, this seems far from true as it is so poorly taught in schools. Hell, the only reason I know what I know about it is because I went and learned about it on my own, through the use of the History Channel and the local library.
