Same old news today. Trump and Musk significantly weaken the US by doing X. They cut funding to Y, despite Y being important for our entire species. They celebrate some stupid imaginary cultural victory. They ignore all of the courts and constituents telling them to stop. Yada yada.

Shall we just call it? The coup is done, the 1% won, the US has exited the world stage, and now the rest of the world needs to figure out how to fill in the void.

One bit of news did jump out today - Trump has threatened to end funding to the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children unless they scrub their data and pretend that trans kids don't exist.

It seems that Trump thinks enforcing culture wars nonsense is far more important than protecting children from sexual abuse. And if sanitising their data weakens their effectiveness as an agency, then why enforce it?

A pedophile wants to defund an agency helping exploited children? What a shock.

I don't know if I'd go that far, but there were definitely allegations of him sexually assaulting an under-aged woman. Plus he was best friends with Epstein for ages. I don't think the description fits, but I wouldn't be surprised either way.

Meanwhile, Musk is making moves to shut down the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. That agency helps protect regular people from being screwed by their banks - for example, by setting limits on credit card fees and late fees. Another wholly good agency that Musk is joking about destroying, because I guess he enjoys watching regular people suffer?

He was credibly accused by a 13 year old girl and there were witnesses but due to threats, she dropped the case rather than start a trial that was scheduled. I think that's what they wanted though? Nobody voted the guy in based on his law and order credentials - not when he spent most of his campaign trail in court on multiple criminal convictions.

A lot of people seemed to vote for him because he promised to hurt the people they believed were undermining their privileges. They wanted a monster, as long as he was their monster.

It's obviously a poorly-informed, short-sighted, self-defeating approach. All he has done in office is worsen people's quality of life and make things easier for multi-millionaires to earn money without scrutiny or safeguards. And that's all he'll ever do - you'd have to be very naive to think Trump and Musk are going to take all this money and then use it to benefit their voting base.
