@LJS9502_basic: Come on, it's a fair argument. Kamala was thrust to the front of the ticket at the last minute and had to scramble a campaign together. And she made the same mistake as Hilary Clinton, with her main selling point being, "look at all these old Republicans that are going to vote for me". People were upset about the economy, and she didn't have a clear enough plan about what she would do to change it. Some of this was bad messaging, some of it was she just didn't have enough time.

Biden should not have run for a second term, and there should have been a primary.

That's as may be but that doesn't change that Trump is a convicted felon, was held liable for sexual assault, failed in his first term as president, incited an insurrection, planned a fake electors scheme to steal the election. The economy was tanked under Trump and recovered under Biden/Harris. And don't you wonder why age was only an issue with Biden when Trump isn't much younger, has no understanding of diplomacy, the economy, the issues facing average Americans?

You may not like Harris, that's fine. But Trump is much worse. Much, much worse.

Harris was in the primary, It was Biden/Harris.

@last_lap: You sound super bitter over other people’s success. And you saying Dav is DEI under Trump? No, Dav is an American like any other person legally here. Trump and his administration don’t categorize people by race or gender or anything else. It’s the left that wanna bring race into everything. Ever thought that maybe people, including minorities are tired of being categorized? But yes, under Biden, Dav would have been considered DEI. And I never said I wasn’t right wing. I said I lean more right than left and that I’m not far right. If you ever actually read some of my comments you’d know there are many things on the left I agree with, just not the far left which is what the Democratic Party has shifted to lately.

See you're the perfect example of a far-right person. You NEVER answer a question when asked one. And jump straight to attacking the left, classic far right tactic.

So, let me ask you again, for the THIRD TIME, do you like that a guy who was never elected, is not employed by the government, in a made-up role having access to all your personal information?

@LJS9502_basic: Oh, I agree Harris was a better option, but she ran a rushed campaign and didn't have a clear vision. Trump is a piece of shit, but his message was "things suck, I'm doing something different". Most of it was bone-headed, short-sighted, and petty, but people were angry and he spoke to their anger.

Yes, but he already had a failed administration. I mean, did anyone really want to live through that again? I was actually shocked that non magas voted for him. Magas you can't help.

@LJS9502_basic: It’s hard to read your nonsense. You are so one-sided and don’t even bother trying to be rational anymore. Anyone that thinks the increase in prices and Covid returning has anything to do with someone who’s been in charge for 3 weeks has to have their head examined. Trumps approval ratings are sky high right now. You say you’re for democracy but when democracy prevails, you rally against it. Maybe take some notes from your senator and try to work with the current administration instead of pointlessly going against everything because it’s not your “side”.

The increase in prices is a direct result of the tariff rhetoric.

@davillain: I’ve been saying the same thing. Kamala was a horrible option. Dems could have easily won this election. But they’re too focused on DEI(which is why Kamala got the VP job and ultimately why she got to run for president). I’m glad you said what you did. You worked your ass off and got the job you deserve(nurse?). I can’t imagine someone telling me that I got my job because of my skin color as LJ basically implied(unless I read that wrong). I follow several black men on YouTube(has nothing to do with their skin color) that have protrump/conservative channels. I think historically blacks have voted for democrat but it seems things are changing. Morgan Freeman said it best when he said if you want to stop racism, stop talking about it. It’s all I hear from democrats lately.

@LJS9502_basic: You’ve got to be trolling now. Biden recovered the economy? I hope someday you also realize no one cares what Trump did 20-30 years ago, or that he’s a felon. You can keep spouting that out but no one cares. It’s about results. And we will see in 4 years how that pans out. As of now, polls show he’s doing a good job 🤷🏼‍♂️.

@davillain: The problem is that Donald only respects white straight males, so no matter how hard you've worked to get where you are he only sees your colour and thus judges you on it. Trump is a well known racist person.

Donald said Harris was a DEI hire and yet she has 10x the qualifications than he does, I feel you've fell for the MAGA trap of if we talk about it enough eventually the public will start to believe it, and it worked.

Here's an interesting story I read, back in 2018 I think it was Trump was getting people in the government to do DEI training (thats a fact you can look it up). And fast forward to today a government worker who was forced to do a 2 day/week course on DEI was fired by Donny because he attend that course, but he had nothing to do with anything to do with DEI. So Donald was happy about DEI back then but is unhappy about it now.

Blamed the plane crash on DEI when he just a week earlier fired the director of the FAA and fired the safety committee and put a hiring freeze, but , but DEI he blamed because he didn't want to take responsibility.

Soon enough the mud will start to stick. I mean he's dismantled all the DEI stuff, so the next tragedy can't be blamed on DEI because he's eliminated it, those are his words. So he will just blame Biden for everything for the next 4yrs.

Yes, the economy was good under Biden. You cannot be taken seriously in a political discussion if you're not operating from the truth. One can have a different opinion, one cannot have their own facts.

There are those who do care that Trump is a felon. Just because you don't, doesn't mean you can speak for everything else. As of now his honeymoon approval rating is below that of his first term, below Obama's, and below Biden's.

@LJS9502_basic: My apologies on the DEI thing. But under the Trump admin, there is no DEI, hence Dav is not DEI. What has gone up since the tariffs have been announced? Not saying you’re wrong, I just haven’t noticed any difference besides eggs because I work in that department everyday and they’ve been increasing for at least a year now, and that has nothing to do with Trump.

Trump used DEI hire when anything goes wrong. Gas prices have risen, and groceries have increased again. Groceries increased .5%, eggs 15% and you don't get to discount that since you blamed Biden for it, inflation rose to 3% in January, energy prices also rose.

@LJS9502_basic: I never blamed Biden for egg prices rising 🙄. I’ll go on record here and say that Trump should shut up about the DEI thing and not blame events on it. I don’t take half the stuff he says seriously. I’m pretty sure he says stuff just to troll the left, which I also don’t agree with but it apparently works. I’m gonna get off this site for a while ✌️

You may not take it seriously but since he's threatening other countries, they take it seriously. Good job on his making the POTUS not the most powerful leader anymore I guess.

@joshrmeyer: What a second, so it's ok for a foreigner to have access to all your details, but you take umbrage if foreigner's comment about foreign affairs on a public forum open to the world lol, that's so sad on many levels.

As for having everything to lose, are you kidding me? He has everything to gain. Does it come as a surprise to you that the people Musk has had fired and the departments he's had shut down are the ones who either fined him or were looking into his businesses? The guy is a crook.

Musk has the ability to mess with your life with those details, that's why their hidden away from the public, non employees etc. Musk is a guy who sells people's info on Twitter, and this is far more egregious.

And Donald is just sitting back letting Musk do what he wants, I mean even Musk own kid told Donald to be quiet during Musk's recent media "conference" lol.

Good luck on the prices going down mate, you're (and your countries) gonna need it.

Trump Tariffs have almost certainly contributed and accelerated the price hike. Actions dont exist in a vacuum and have consequences.

As for the return of COVID. I would not blame Trump for that. HOWEVER, I will very much blame antivaxxers for it, and the antiscience sentiments of the Trump administration will make future pandemics as well as the return of COVID worse.

Economists have warned against Trump's policies, and they had more or less the exact same consequences the economists warned about. Epidemiologists have warned about the multidemic as well. With Peter Hotez even talking about multiple of them. And now the conspiracy theorists think that Peter Hotez had planned them.

I like the way this utility did it, telling people exactly why they owe an extra $100 on their utility bills. I think all businesses should break out the Trump Tax charge as just that: TRUMP TAX.

DEI was a bottom scraping method to prey on peoples fears for easy votes. It's akin to Hitlers "we blame the Jews for everything".

I'd be far more worried about his wanna be despot syndrome. He doesn't think he serves America, nor act as the leader of the free world as something to aspire towards, he thinks he's a king where the world serves him trying to bleed it for all it's worth.

Tennessee!

I've got my prepared retort whenever a MAGA voter starts complaining about tariffs or cuts: "How could you not know he was going to do this, he told you exactly what he was going to do. Didn't you believe him?"

Pisses them off.

Yeah it seems to me they gave the Russians all their basic demands before negotiations. The Russians can now focus on gaining as much extra as possible. But they can't really lose...

It's an unusual negotiation tactic...

Kamala Harris was right.

Not only are they attempting to force them to concede defeat, they are trying to rape their resources, which is far greater than the actual aid given. Poor old Zelensky having to deal with a self-serving sociopath.

They also seem to have isolated and alienated all allies viewing them with hostility or something to be exploited.

This is also the allies fault for overreliance on America. They've allowed this cretin to do this through complacency.

Dark times.

So it looks like the future of Ukraine pretty much comes down to conversations between Putin and Trump alone? This is some brazen shit. I feel so bad for the Ukrainian people right now.

It's a shame that we in Europe has put ourselves in the position to be at the mercy of the Americans. Obviously there are historical reasons for that having to do with WW2 and the cold war. But we need to take back control of our continent and slightly distance ourselves from US imo.

But I agree that it is really sad for the Ukrainians. They have suffered so much and it feels really unfair to them what is going on.

As much hate to admit it, Pete Hegseth is right about Nato.

At least in the sense they have been completely over-reliant and comfy with the idea of American protection.

Nato does a lot of chest-puffing, standing around, big grandiose speeches about righteousness. But many of them only put their toe in the water, doing as little as they can. Not only ignoring Russia as a threat, but getting in bed with them for oil.

They should be increasing their defense industry, rapidly.

-

The rest of what he said though was a complete betrayed of both Ukriane and Europe. America is no longer seen as the leader of the free world we should aspire towards but something we have to put up with because of their immense resources.

Putin has (at the moment) seemingly been given everything he wants, complete and utter capitulation which is what Kamala Harris said would exactly happen under Trump.

Not only is it capitulation, Trump is blaming Ukriane with JD Vance claiming sides shouldn't be taken. Trump himself actually seems to not even be knowledgeable on the subject, like he hasn't even read a wiki page, he came across as extremely vague and confused.

This is arguably the darkest time for Europe since WW2. And a black spot (even without Ukriane) on American history.

Trump is garbage and if people can't see it, get a pair of eyes that work.

It's been about a month and he's already made 4 attempts at land grabs, and even as this is being typed out, once against he's wanting to claim Canada.

Attacking all allies.

And not once, anywhere, said a bad word about Putin. Can look at the history as well of the people who now surround him, heavily anti-Nato, Pro-Russian, anti-Ukriane.

This is who's at the head of the table.

Just highlighting this part.

Musk currently controls the US government, since he determines how the US spends its money (despite the potential illegalities of that role).

Musk also runs several businesses that rely on government contracts and government deregulation.

That's an obvious a conflict of interest. Even if he promises to do everything right, the mere appearance of bias is so clear that he should never be allowed to be in that position.

The risks of him mis-using DOGE for his own personal benefit are too great:

  • He could suddenly grant himself massive government contracts (like the $400 million in armoured vehicles going to Tesla an unannounced electric car company)
  • Or he could remove consumer protection agencies that might get in the way of his new business ventures (like when he shut down the CFPB, who would have opposed X Money)
  • Or he could get the US to pressure other countries to change their laws that were restricting his companies (like the US' sudden push against land ownership in South Africa, which was stymying Starlink's expansion there).

So even though I'm sure Musk would never take advantage of his newfound power, there's a risk that maybe one day he could force the government to make decisions that might seem biased and self-serving.

Trump's tariffs on steel and aluminum could raise these prices - ABC News

Damn most voters just voted Trump primarily in for cheaper stuff, but he's going to be doing the opposite?

Some of us voted for him to just get rid of DEI BS we're most tired of seeing everywhere and the US goes by Male/Female only. Stuff like grocery, gas, and even aluminum is going to take time to get a price reduction. It just can't happen overnight after he took the big office, everything takes time.

@LJS9502_basic: Ah OK, well I haven't conversed with planet much and I'm new to this side of the forums, so you can understand my ignorance so to speak.

EDIT: looking back I see it now, I'm not up to date with everything so I didn't catch on lol.

@MirkoS77: You're wasting your breath with Josh.

He thinks he's not a right winger when he is the definition of one, anyone who defends Trump is one. But he'll deny it until he's red in the face.

As for Elon, he's done plenty of shady shit himself to become rich, that's also easy to look up. Him and Donald are both pathological liars only there to line their own pockets. I mean Musk rakes in 8 million a day from government contracts, no wonder he's trying to fire all the people and departments that are (were) looking into his business dealings. He's on an unregulated revenge tour.

I've no doubt that Musk has some shady stuff in his closet, but I still think he's a legit businessman.

Trump I'm hard pressed to even classify a businessman. I don't think he honestly cares about his business ventures aside their ability to promote and glorify the Trump name. He's a narcissistic opportunist. Whereas Musk, Jobs, Gates are actually visionaries involved and interested in the products they create, Trump could not care less aside their ability to serve his self-aggrandizement or to increase his bankroll. Once that fails, he disposes of it to move onto the next thing he can slap his name on and put his mug next to with his fake million dollar smile, spray-on tan and obvious golden comb-over.

All good mate!

It's really difficult to be sarcastic about politics nowadays. Anything we joke about, the far right could be saying with a straight face.

@MirkoS77: A legitimate businessman, a visionary, are we talking about the same person here?

Musk is a greedy pos, he's just smarter than Donald Trump in the way he goes about it, so businessman sure, a legit one however, yeah I beg to differ on that one.

A visionary, now we must be talking about a different person. Musk doesn't want to go to Mars to resettle the human race, a visionary would come up with ways to maintain Earth, Musk wants to go to Mars amd possibly house people there so his ego can claim to be the first to do it, and if we humour the idea of him achieving it, then it would only be for the rich, that's where that businessman part cones into play.

@Planeforger: Nah it's my bad, as when I'm at work I tend to scroll and not fully read what's written, been my downfall on a few occasions lol.

I should probably not do so much internet scrolling during my work day 🤦‍♂️

Tennessee!

I've got my prepared retort whenever a MAGA voter starts complaining about tariffs or cuts: "How could you not know he was going to do this, he told you exactly what he was going to do. Didn't you believe him?"

Pisses them off.

They love claiming that trump "says it like it is", but then are crying about the orange menace doing exactly what he promised to do.

@rmpumper: I don't know why everyone keeps calling him King Elon.

He's just some guy who seized supreme executive power of the United States. He hasn't been coronated yet, and it's much more likely that he'd give himself a nerdy title like Emperor or Supreme Xecutive or something.

They are now trying to frame the culture war as the main threat, and not the guy who invaded a sovereign country and killed thousands.

What is wrong with these people, why are they so fucking stupid?

Alabama must have the same company, they're getting the same letter. Also Georgia FEMA aid was just denied.

The fact that we still have people defending whats going on is comical. Just brushing off with satirical jokes. At this point, I think I'm going to start calling it the TDK Joker Syndrome, because it feels like these people are just happy to see shit burn as long as it triggers the left...

It's madness.

In this case, I think he's realised it's do or die. Trump views him as a a backstabbing opportunist, Merz has already pledged to come down hard on foreign election meddling, the leader of his newly adopted church has openly called him an uninformed hypocrite... What can he do but try to salvage some shred of apparent loyalty to his sponsors and spout off against European regulatory sovereignty, all under guise of democratic compassion?

Not that he's necessarily always wrong about everything, mind, or that he definitively lacks principles, but it's an odd time to be batting for Russia, yes.

Next step is convincing governments to compile ALL citizens' and national data in one place "for AI consumption". Not sure what to think about that one, but they've convinced a few elderly gravy-train-riding ex-statesmen, like Tony Blair.

It's all a part of the lovely so-called libertarian movement: Kill all that pesky national regulation and red tape which was put in place to protect citizens from corporations, corruption and the more ruthless uber-wealthy, and blindly spaff all your faith on those same billionaires (who reject philanthropy on principle and go on about survival of the fittest) to make the world a beautiful place. What could possibly go wrong?

The Americans did not like Kyiv's amendments to the minerals agreement. Therefore, the meeting between Vance and Zelensky was postponed, - journalist Zabelina. Let me remind you that Reuters sources stated that the US wanted to force Zelensky to blindly sign the minerals agreement.

Yes, a visionary.

You don't create companies like Space X and Tesla and achieve their accomplishments without an incredibly powerful vision. I obviously don't know Musk personally, but aside the fact that, yes, he's probably a POS and scummy, he absolutely has a strong vision driving him. Given the results, I don't even find that to be arguable.

.....which is the distinction between Trump, who is nothing but a narcissistic opportunist who sees commercialism and business as a way to promote his own brand. That's the predominant focus, it's why he'd not be building real estate if his name couldn't be brandished at the top in gaudy gold lettering, and it's why he has dozens of failed ventures under his name.....steak, vodka, university, airlines......all where the goal was to promote his image, with no real interest in any success past that.

Trump's business is self-promotion and the licensing of his name as the epitome of the American dream, fake as it is....and I grant Musk, given his accomplishments, as being quite a distance past that. Like him or hate him, he's achieved a hell of a lot in business.
