If I think [x] stinks, I'll voice it out loud; and vice versa, I won't be bawwing like a prick all over if I get dissed for, let's say, listening to Edguy (strange how much hate it gets though, considering it's nowhere close the bottom of the power metal barrel. Oh well, tastes will be tastes).

Why would you be "bawwing like a prick if someone says they don't like your music, why should you care? It's your music preference. But with that mentality, it's not very productive to let someone else know that you don't like their music taste. Why would they care what you think?
My tastes change all the time, but my top 5 are:
1. Metallica
2. Deftones (probably more Rock than Metal though)
3. Black Label Society
4. Fear Factory
5. Slipknot
I must be falling behind the times in Metal, because I've no idea who 90% of the bands you guys are listing are  . I've Youtubed a few but it's all that generic screaming crap that seems to be sucking the life out of Metal nowadays. Where is the originality?
Just 5? My favorites change constantly. I mean, there are current favorites and all time favorites (that rarely if ever change) you know?
All time favorites:
1. Metallica
2. Dream Theater
3. Opeth
4. Black Sabbath
5. In Flames
Current:
1. Decapitated
2. Cloudkicker
3. Amon Amarth
4. Nevermore
5. Animals As Leaders
Even mine?My tastes change all the time, but my top 5 are:

From what I've heard of those bands, yes.
It's just the way Metal seems to be going. Tastes change over time and I guess that type of vocals are more popular now. I don't mind some growl type vocals, it's just that these deep guttural vocals go too far. There's no variation in their singing and it makes every band sound the same.
Guess that's why I stick to the same handful of bands.
I see no point in this thread but I can't resist showing off my sexy 5:
- Immolation
- Deathspell Omega
- Darkspace
- Neurosis
- Disillusion
Rikardur
1, 2, 3, and 5 are indeed sexy.

Really? I judge music based on instrumentation, the vocals are just an aesthetic bonus. If you judge music purely on vocals, and say bands that employ growling all sound the same, that's just poor judgment in my opinion.[QUOTE="Guppy507"][QUOTE="Rikardur"]

- Scorpions
- Metallica
- Iron Maiden

Hardcore, screamo, thrash, metalcore = sub-genres of metal, right?
So I won't get flamed for my picks. *ahem*

Fair point, although vocals are more often than not placed at a volume where they can be heard clearly above the instruments - so no matter how good the music is, if the vocals aren't to my tastes then it will ruin the vibe of the song for me. :(
I'm not disputing the musical talent of these bands (they clearly know how to play well) it's just that I think the vocalists should push their range out more to match the diversity of the guys playing guitar/drums/bass. Singing at the same pitch throughout the entire songs (perhaps even albums) just drags the rest of the song down.
Ive been in a instrumental phase latley for some reason
1. Scale the summit
2. Keith merrow
3. Animals as leaders
4. Fleshgod apocalypse
5. Gru
