.. and that is all.

DreamnDayUnite

Cant say I like those bands at all. I am really not into metalcore, like some of the other of the users here.

Pretty much this. I'm not a metalcore fan, either, but I like Shadows Fall, Lamb of God, Chimaira, and Mnenic(if they count).

Gorguts, Crowpath, Gigan, Mithras, and similar bands just missed it.

Really though how can you hate a band like that? If you do you just really don't like metal.

I'm not too fond of them, and I love metal. What do?

Well, I guess you need to start looking at other genres, because metal is clearly not for you. :D

But seriously though, if any band had to represent metal, it would be Iron Maiden.

I don't think so, metal is way to diverse to be represented by a single band.

True, but that is why I said "HAD" to, as if you were forced to. Iron Maiden is easily one of the most influential metal bands of all time.

In that case, if Iron Maiden really is one of the most influential bands, that's fair enough.

Hardcore, screamo, thrash, metalcore = sub-genres of metal, right?

So I won't get flamed for my picks. *ahem*

  1. We Came As Romans.
  2. Oh, Sleeper.
  3. Catherine.
  4. Calico System.
  5. The Devil Wears Prada.

no_more_fayth

Hardcore and Screamo are not sub genres of metal and even if you do pick some metalcore bands you'll still get flamed. :P All the people picking BMTH are making me sad. :(

Metal encompasses a vast amount of music. If you're upset because people are lumping metalcore into that, well try and define your specific taste in metal and stick with it. If you're into 80s thrash, stick with that. No ones going to lump metalcore into that category and the problem is solved. I love all types of metal. I would say I'm a legitimate fan of the metal genre as a whole. But what I've noticed about a good amount of the other fans is that a lot of them are intolerant of other kinds of music and carry around this elitist attitude that, quite frankly, gives all metal fans a bad name. There's no reason to look down on someone because they like a specific kind of music, no matter how reprehensible that style of music may be to you. If you're that annoyed about something as insignificant as lumping a bunch of bands you don't like into a large primary genre that you tend to enjoy, then narrow your definitions. It's not hard, instead of saying "I like metal", say "I like 80s thrash". Problem solved.

Uhhh I don't know where that came from. I generally enjoy most forms of music and metal. I, actually like a few metalcore bands (e.g Parkway Drive, All that Remains) sure it's not a sub genre I follow whole heartedly but I get an occasionaly kick out of it. I was just saying generally if you post any form of Metalcore band you will get hated on, I'm not the one doing the hating.

I'd consider them a mix. Depends on what you listen to from them. I thought they were metal the first time I heard them, then I listened to some of their other stuff and it sounded more like hard rock.

My tastes change all the time, but my top 5 are:

1. Metallica

2. Deftones (probably more Rock than Metal though)

3. Black Label Society

4. Fear Factory

5. Slipknot

I must be falling behind the times in Metal, because I've no idea who 90% of the bands you guys are listing are  . I've Youtubed a few but it's all that generic screaming crap that seems to be sucking the life out of Metal nowadays. Where is the originality?
