[QUOTE="Kevlar101"]Honestly, its the fault of whoever let him play it. Whoever that was, was being irresponsible, by not monitoring the child's influences and outlets such as GTA. .CajunShooterSo where are all these murders of the other kids that play GTA? There are hundreds of thousands if not millions of kids under 17 playing these game so where are all these other child crime sprees? While a very small percentage of the population may be directly influenced to act out violent behavior by seeing violent behavior believe it or not there were kids before video games doing similar acts. Depends on the child. Which is why I was saying, the adult in the situation should base his/her choice on the matter on how the child handles certain things. Such as how easily influenced the kid is.
Who let's an 8 year old...especially an apparently disturbed 8 year old play GTA?LJS9502_basicIf I was 90, I probably wouldnt care what the kid was doing as long as I didnt have to get up.

While most 8 year olds know not to shoot their grandmothers in the head, an 8 year old kid's understanding of the difference between reality and fiction is not as developed as an older kid or an adult's, so I don't think it's responsible to let a kid that young play GTA in any context.

so is that like a 3 or 4 star wanted level?

Â
Two.
Â
Three is if you kill a police officer or a lot of them. 4 you'll have the swat team on you.
Except he already had 5, escalating him right up to 6. Â Now the Army is on his ass, and Tanks as well as military transport vehicles are trying to crash his Infernus.
Video killed the Radio Star.
Â
I'm going by real life and not the  5 stars he had in the game. :D
Â
Killing only one person in a GTA game really doesn't get you much wanted stars.
>after playing the violent video game
Yeah, we know where this is going.Â
Maybe he got pissed off and went full potato because his video games were taken away.Â
I was around 7 when I played GTA 3. Couldn't wait 12 years just to play it.Why is an 8 year old playing gta in the first place?

I'm not trying to rag on your mom (because she might have been an overall lovely mother despite letting you play GTA 3 at seven), but I don't think it's ever a good idea to let a 7 year old play a GTA game. There's so many good age appropriate games a kid can play without ever touching GTA. And they don't have to play some lame tie-in movie sh!t either. A kid can play Zelda or Mario or Kingdom Hearts or something like that.

I did play all of those games. I mostly played on my NES and PS1 to play Final Fantasy but GTA was just a very fun sandbox game it felt very new and original at the time. Would I impose the same restrictions on my kids? Maybe. Depending the child's behavior and other factors. It's like I would totally be fine to let a kid play Halo over CoD(not hate, but the community is based on MP and they're terrible) if they enjoyed the story, but if all they did was play online 10 hours a day then I'd take it away. I would at least be in-tuned and aware of my child rather than neglecting it and letting it do whatever, because how else would I build a relationship and feel confident with my child's understanding of the world? Back then was a bit different for me when online MP didn't exist so the approach for parents is different each decade. Technologically moves so fast and right under our nose when we're working to pay bills and whatnot. We can't filter our children from everything. Your best bet is to educate yourself and educate your child to prevent such tragedies. When I first played GTA 3 as a kid that sh*t was addictive as hell. My mother never knew.;)
Â
But I already knew GTA 3 was JUST A GAME.
Â
Also there are games way worse than the GTA series like the Postal series or Manhunt which got banned in a lot of countries.
Thank you. It's a HUGE f***ing contradiction. If videogames don't promote violence (or to be more specific, "don't have an influence over the player's thoughts and behavior"), then there's no reason to tell kids that they can't play them. If we can accept that kids shouldn't be playing adult games because it may warp their fragile little minds, then we are accepting that video games DO have an influence over people. That being said, the article is still sort of $hit. Violent video game or no violent video game, the issue here is how he got access to the f***ing gun. But what's gonna happen here is that we're gonna see people coming here and saying that the game couldn't have affected the kid because it was just a game. And to that I'd reply, "BULL$HIT." Yes, the media that we access affects us. Oh, it usually doesn't result in people murdering the $hit out of people, but it absolutely has an effect on people. Look at the decline in shark populations after Jaws, or look at the increase in Air Force recruitment after Top Gun.I can't help but feel the like two arguments 'video games don't promote violence!' and 'kids that age shouldn't be playing violent games like this!' sort of contradict.

Because carrot cake has mass killings in it? I disagree that video games are the cause, but that's a garbage analogy. So I suppose if someone ate carrot cake before killing someone, carrot cake is the reason for the murder?

Parents' fault that he had access to the gun, and the parents' fault that he was allowed to play a game that he's not legally able to buy himself. Parents are to blame, 100%, no point in discussing further. Non-issue.

Made my day, ha ha.
If there wasn't a gun,this wouldn't have happened.

Â
The problem isn't the firearm, or the video game. It is with the parents. Guns do not tell you to shoot other people, if there wasn't a gun the kid may of used a hammer, bat, or a knife.
I wonder if it was this kid and this grandmother... lamprey263
This is an example of art imitating life and it doing so is indicative of how parents are not raising their children properly. When a cartoon/comic pokes fun at you for your actions, you should know you have hit bottom.
If you cannot raise children properly, keep your legs shut, take the pill, get the implants, use condoms or just abstain to keep from having children that you do not intend to raise with some modicum of decorum.
I love the Boondocks. The writer does take a lot of cues from real life and this is just an example of it.Â

LOL"Child psychologist Dumbass McDumbass said access to a violent video game such as Grand Theft Auto IV may encourage aggressive behaviour."
And access to actual firearms is surely fine.
