[QUOTE="AirGuitarist87"]I've been modded twice (only one overturned for some obscure reason) for mentioning torrents; not advocating or admitting usage, simply talking about them.ChiliDragon
Discussion of mod chips, copying games, playing copied games, cracking games, No-CD patches, piracy releases, homebrew, copyrighted ROMs, copyrighted ISOs, and basically anything related to game, movie, TV, or music piracy is not permitted.Gamespot TOU
Discussion of anything related to game piracy is not permitted... sorry. :) It doesn't matter what you say about them. Just don't talk about them.

Torrents. Not piracy. The two aren't hand in hand. I download Linux distros using it, along with patches for games. Hell, even Metal Gear Online has an option to use Torrents instead of a direct download. Nowhere in the ToU does it say no mentioning of torrents.

It doesn't matter if the TOU uses the word torrent or not. What matters at the end of the day is that the forums are owned and operated by a corporation based in the US, where piracy is an extremely sticky issue. We can split hairs all we want, but at the end of the day, regardless of what we think about it, talking about torrent technology on Gamespot is basically the equivalent of baiting the mods and admins into keeping a very close eye on the person doing it and is essentially the same as daring them to try and moderate you. We might not agree with it, we might not like it, but that doesn't matter. If you want to make your life on Gamepot easier for yourself, stop talking about torrents. :)

Now that you know it'll bring a moderation...just don't talk about it. Simple no?

If I recall correctly, yes the specific use of the term "torrent" omitted in the ToU plays a big factor into this. If not, let's stretch it to everyone who mentions "downloading". Torrents are simply an effective means of downloading software that spares smaller companies and sites having to buy more bandwidth, (re: Consolevania). Hell, a feature on Opera's latest versions is a built in torrent tracker. If you're simply going off the association of torrents and piracy, surely YouTube would be a mod-worthy offence too? I can talk about legal torrents all I like, I've talked to mods about this. ;)

It was overturned. Legal torrents are a-ok.
