Age gaps mean less as you get older. So a 40 year old dating a 30 year old isnt as awkward as a 16 year old dating a 26 year old.

Their own age? It's only 4 years difference, why should he give up a person he likes just because of the few people who would frown upon their relationship?Spitfirer
Well it's a MASSIVE maturity gap from 16 to 18.
I think you are vastly overestimating the maturity level of most 18 year olds.I personally think guys are creepy if they're in their twenties and dating someone more than three years younger than them. As you get older it doesn't really matter, but when you're younger it certainly does.
It depends on the woman.
Unless you care about what society thinks, numbers are meaningless, you have to feel out where she's at mentally. If she's 20and has her act together, to me she's more desirable than a woman my age that acts like a child. I generally don't like to date women that are significantly younger than me because their maturity level and lack of real world experience sometimes makes me feel likeI'm her father... which is not only creepy but a turn off.
You have a 16 year old daughter? Just how old are you?
I'm joking, I know you're just using it as an example...well I think so anyway.
I don't really care about age gaps. If you're a 40 year old male, and you're dating a 16 year old girl, more power to you.
Well, as long as it isn't my 16 year old daughter anyways.
BiancaDK
I would also like to add that even though I argued my point weakly, it is still somewhat f*cked up, no matter how good the relationship is or how it ended. Why? Because sex with a minor i.e. someone's who's at most 16 is still statutory rape. It's not as extreme as an 18 dating a 13, but still.

Laws vary from country to country, and in many countries from state/provence to state/provence. In fact the age of consent is 16 in many parts of the world, including the UK.

So a 29 year-old dating a 25 year-old would be creepy, but a 30 year-old dating a 26 year-old would not be?

Well, I have two bonus daughters, oldest being 11 years old, if that counts for anything. (:

just because there is nothing to talk about with the younlings does not make them without their uses.Well i just turned 18, and I just started dating a girl who is turning 23 in a couple weeks. sooo.....*counts on fingers* my age gap is fice years :P

Well it's a MASSIVE maturity gap from 16 to 18.
I think you are vastly overestimating the maturity level of most 18 year olds. No, I think the majority are still incredibly mature compared to 16-years-olds, even if it isn't saying much considering all ages. The maturity gap between 16 and 18 is pretty big. Irrespective of that, 16-year-olds are still minors no matter what the law says.
I actually can't believe an 18-year-old nailed a 13-year-old because he "couldn't resist" and it's all his "brother's fault for bringing his classmates to parties to his house." I'm so disgusted I'm going to go watch Anal Farmyard 2.
Who are you to say whats right and wrong ? If the 2 people feel such feelings for eachother especially at 16 and 20, both parts are mature enough to deal with their issues. And if they're not, then they will have to grow up really fast.Personally, I think age gaps are okay as long as the younger person is mature enough to be in a relationship. A 60-year-old and an 18-year-old is totally fine in my books. However, a 16-year-old and a 12-year-old is wrong on many levels. I have known of some people who did that and they were every bit as disgusting and stupid. How immature are you to be on the same level as someone that young? I know some smart people who were mature for their age when they were 12 but admitted they were still stupid as they had no life experience.
And although a 20-year-old and a 16-year-old is a leagl combination in England, it's still wrong, let alone socially unacceptable.

And yet being a minor has nothing to do with the age of consent.

No I mean mostly in their young twenties. Like a 22 year old dating an 18 year old would be creepy.

Why exactly is that creepy? Both adults with only a 4 year difference between eachother. Why exactly is that creepy? Both adults with only a 4 year difference between eachother.MushroomWig
Because I don't think anybody over 21 should be dating people younger than them. I think there's a huge difference in maturity.

Fair enough, I can't say I agree but it's your opinion.Fair enough, I can't say I agree but it's your opinion.MushroomWig
I just don't think it's appropriate for somebody with more life experience to be dating someone who doesn't have the same. It would be different if they both weren't old enough to drink.
Divide by your age and add seven. That's the lowest you can go.
From personal experience though, I would say once you pass certain milestones, you shouldn't dip down below those. For example, a person who's in college should only be with someone who is in college (or out of high school).

Oh, well that wouldn't be a problem here in the UK, you're allowed to drink at 18. From my experience there aren't any differences between an 18 year old and a 22 year old. I'm not sure how much life experiences you can have in only a couple of years that'll make a relationship creepy.Oh, well that wouldn't be a problem here in the UK, you're allowed to drink at 18. That goes both way, the 18 year old could have more life experience than the 22 year old..but at the end of the day why is that even an issue? If people like eachother, get long and have things in common then a couple of years hardly matters.
just because there is nothing to talk about with the younlings does not make them without their uses.Sure thing but maybe I'm being a bit old fashioned in thinking that by discussing being in a 'relationship' with someone I am assuming people want more than a svelte f*** buddy who is cheap to take out because you can get them into an amusement park for half price.
Anyway sex or anything similar with a teen is always all drama drama drama.

Indeed, and I suppose there are exceptions, but for the most part I think it's a pretty safe rule to go by.

I don't feel like legally drinking really factors into maturity in any way whatsoever. It's not like you can't go to bars, clubs, or even drink under 21.I have always thought of it like this,
If the person is younger than 20years then the age gap should not be anymore than 2 maybe 3 years eg, 16 going out with 18yr old.
How ever once the person is older than 20 years old then i see nothing wrong with the age gap being as much as 12 years difference.
For example i recently went on a date with a woman who was 28 and i'm 21 turning 22.

I think it's wrong to generalize. Chances are, between 18- 21, your still in college and have not really set yourself out in the real world. Everyone also has different life experiences, which can make them more or less mature.I don't know maybe 21 years old, lol. But I'd never go the same age gap if it were in the younger direction, lol. :P But my girl just turned 19, so yeah.cheesyjonAren't you, like, 13?
