In answering this question, please do not reveal anything that might spoil the ending or any part of the book. I am about 120 pages into the book and I keep reading about the enchanted mirror Harry got from Sirius. When did Harry receive this gift and what does it do? Please only answer if the answer is in one of the previous books.chip_money

Sirius gave it to him in the fithf book so they could talk, but Harry never used it.

I got the book around 2 this morning and finished about 8. It was good. The ending wasn't very satisfying though...

Could you tell me about what part of the book he gave it to Harry so I can read it?

Eh, I read it in about 8 hours straight lmao. I thought most of the book was excellent but like some people said parts were drawn out and then others were rushed. I thought the epilogue on the other had was horrible, When I heard she was doing it I was expecting something with a little bit more info not that little side thing. Hopefully theyre will be some kind of companion book explaining what happened to the more important surviving characters almost like fantastic beasts and where to find them. The epilogue pretty much said everything you were already expecting.

I'm 234 pages in and this is easily the most action packed book of the series. I particularly like how the story keeps moving but I do wish they would go to a certain somewhere they have been for the rest of the series.

Just finished. It was a pretty good book. I wonder if the movie will be rated higher than pg, with all the killings and tortures and stuff?

just a question, at the store i got the book from they mostly had childrens version but i was lucky enough to know the guy handing them out ( brothers friend ) and got one of the 20 copies of the adult version ( in comparison there were 800 childrens). so apart from the front cover is there a difference between the two?

I doubt it, unless they cut out some of the killing and torturing.

I enjoyed the book ALOT and I felt it provided good closure to the series my one complaing though is
The epilouge was just horrible, it lasted for what? Two pages and barely covered any characters. We find out what happens to all the obvious characters + Percy and Neville. I would've liked to have seen a bit more depth in it like how Fred (or was it George) did with his Joke Shop even with his twin dead. I would've liked to see if Bill and Fleur had any kids, I would've liked to see how alot of stuff happened. Kreacher? Grimmauld Place? Luna?

Oh well...I did however like the fact that the way it ended made it seem like there was a whole other adventure in store for the kids heading off. While there probably won't be an ominous dark power, you never know. Maybe if Rowling feels like making a quick buck, she'll continue on the series. I would see it as a gimmick but I'm already too deep into the Series to complain if she did.
Well .. just finished the book about 10 minutes ago ......... 5:20 am here... some thoughts:
I love the beggining of the book, how it gets into action really fast, even though I was sad for Hedwig and Mad-Eye dying, I though it was one of the best parts in the book.

But then it got tediously slow, almost boring.. the character development was great though, but I was kind of hoping they would get to Godric's Hollow faster, after all that was what Harry planned right after the wedding, I wanted a little more of action, perhaps something like the Goblet of Fire (the best of the books in my opinion)..

Well, the final part of the book was absolutely brilliant, loved the ending very much, I was almost crying when Harry was fully ready to accept death (Theories that harry would die because he was the last horcrux, anyone?) and sees his parents and Lupin :( and how he basically says goodbye to Neville..

The epilogue was the saddest part of the book :( I just couldn't picture little Albus Severus Potter .. xD I expected the epilogue to be more about Harry's future life, how he would became an auror and be finally with together forever with Ginny (Expecting a child who would be named James), but when I saw the 19 YEARS LATER I was like WOOOT? .. Well... 5:31am, gotta get some sleep, I'll be back :]
Hope someone reads my wall of text xD
Yeah, Mad-Eye dying so quickly was defintely a shocker. But too me the saddest part wasn't really anyone dying, but when Bellatrix tortured poor Hermione. I guess to me, there are worse things than dying and toture is one of them.

Well, I didn't really get too emotional through the whole thing. I can't believe that JK Rowling would use the cop out ending. None of the really central characters died, which was very unexpected. I liked the book thought, it was well written, but the deaths were fairly minor. I agree that the Hermione bit was a bit sad. Whenever anyone got into any peril I thought, oh crap, there they go, but it just didn't happen. My dad predicted that Snape was really good at the end of the last book, and he was right. It was fairly obvious.
I finished at 11:56pm last night.
I actually thought Snape's death was possibly the saddest for me, because I love Snape's character -- so complex and intriuging. It also confirmed my suspicions of him loving Lily, and the epilogue was SO touching. I was touched when I saw Harry had named his second son Albus, but I was really very moved when I learned his middle name was Severus, after "the bravest man I ever met". Dobby's death was very sad for me, but Hedwig's took second-place (after Snape)... I was SOOOO pissed at Voldemort and his Death Eaters already, and I was like 5 minutes into the book! Moody, oddly, mattered the least to me. Dobby and Hedwig were both more awesome. Moody's was just so sudden. I'm REALLY glad Hagrid didn't die, and I'm REALLY glad JK Rowling pleased everyone by making Harry a Horcrux and having him die, but letting him live in the end.

I can understand how you thought the ending was a cop out, even thoughI disagree. I think most of us was expecting at least one or more of the main three characters to die, because of the massive speculation and hypethat one of them will bite the dust.

Iguess maybe Snape's death really is the most tragic because of the desires he had and the secret life that he led. He probably never knew real happiness. My jaw dropped when Snape made that Doe Patronus in front of Dumbledore and I figured out that he was the one who helped Harry get the sword of Gryffindor. I also thought it was awesome when he corrected Phineaus, the painting, when he called Hermione a "Mudblood."

Maybe someone can tell me if this is a mistake or not.I thought they said that anyone who was under the cloak was safe from spells but didn't Malfoy put a stupefy spell on Harry while he was under the cloak in book six? This was while they were on the train.
well..
I wasn't really feeling sad for hermione because I knew Ron would give his 4000% or more to save her, I knew it couldn't happen, I mean, how could the book have a happy ending if any of the 3 main characters were to die? The deaths that shocked me the most were Freds and Dobbys :( It was just so cruel ...

I love the par when Hermione says "If we were to have Crookshanks" (In the whomping willow part), and harry says "ARE A WITCH OR WHAT?" ... something similar happens in another book, I just cant remember which xD I think it was something about matches..
Well I just finished it early this afternoon and was chatting about it with a good friend on the phone for 2 hours. I say its the best in the series but........
It started moving along quickly as well as the death count mainly Hedwig and Moody, especially that early on. The character development, especially of the trio was great. They all started to grow up in their own way. (Well maybe not Ron but he finally came through). The backround story on Dumbledore was fascinating and I appreciate the realism that even he had a checkered past like anyone else. This is by far the most "adult" of the books with all the deaths (Nagini coming out of Bathilda's corpse, gross! :?) not the mention the numerous uses of crude and foul language. That doesn't bother me in the least but kids are reading it and I know my mother's going to complain about Mrs. Weasley's last words to Bellatrix but I was like, YES!!!! Even better was when Neville decapitated Nagini. I'm pleased that the trio (central characters) were spared but the body count was definitely high in this book. As much as I enjoyed it, there's still quite a few holes in it.

- Percy's comeback. He was (and still is) the biggest tool and realistically the Weasley family wouldn't be so quick to take him back and the forgiveness scene was so short, it was cheesy.

- No retribution for Neville or Fred. It would have been better if Neville killed Bellatrix because he's the one she hurt the most. Next was Harry. As for Fred, oncehe was gone, we didn't hear anything more about it. He was my favorite Weasley.

- JK Rowling promised a character would develop magical ability later in life. That didn't happen.

- The Epilogue. This was the most disappointing of all. I was under the impression that we'd learn about the futures of all the major characters. Instead we get a little scene at King's Cross. Who's minister of magic, headmaster at Hogwart's, etc... what do they all do for a living? Nothing about the other Weasleys, Luna, etc. or where they lived. Heck, we still don't know what Harry's parents did for a living or why they were so wealthy.

Oh well, it's JK Rowlings swansong and although she says thats it for Harry Potter, she did say "never say never" so I'm somewhat optomistic. After all Michael Jordan came out of retirement (a few times) after he said he was done with basketball.

One thing I really didn't like was that Rowling stated that some things were important clues but in the book, it was really more of a "side" thing. For example, Rowling said that Harry's eyes were important, in the book I didn't see much of a significance of his eyes. If it had anything to do with Snape, I think Snape would've helped just based on the fact that it was Lily's child rathar than just on the fact that their eyes match. Petunia was also supposed to play a semi important role but all we got was that she was just jelous of her sister.
The greatest book series written in our time.
Yeah, that was definatly the most amazing part of the book, and the most touching, " Albus Severus Potter"

Definatly, the last book will make a great movie. I hope they take time to put in as much detail as they can. I was kind of let down about the fact that the Order of the Pheonix movie moved so fast. Then again, Order of the Pheonix was a fairly big book. Hopefully, Half Blooded Prince and Deathly Hallows do better.
Although, the book had very little to actually do with the Hallows.
*IMO Snape's character is the best and most tragic character of the whole series...after everything he went through from child hood until voldemort/nagini murder him i just feel so awful for him. And i feel even worse because after the 6th book i absolutley despised him, but then after reading the 7th one and learning him murdering Dumbledore was, in fact, dumbledore's IDEA, i was just like..............o geez. and i also think that Fred Weasley's death was very sad, though i guess he did die happy....and his death acted has a large motif for Mrs Weasley to kill Bellatrix (even though i guess it wasn't actualy bellatrix who killed Fred)*
